Dodge Dart: DEAD?

Looking at it from a UK perspective, these warmer cars have always done well, beneath the hot versions in the range or offered by competitors.

True, but when their "warm" cars are positively tepid at best already, there's a lot of room for improvement. You've got the Dart GT, which adds an overly firm suspension to a nice set of wheels/tires, and the big 2.4L I4 to the mix. Reviews seemed to like the car, but criticized it for being too harsh, and much too heavy. Good value, sure, but it'll be worth three pennies and a gum wrapper after three years. The step down would be the Dart SXT Rallye, which gets some of the visual elements from the GT, and the big engine, but does without the spine bending suspension setup (although its still more firm than the standard car).

A GLH, honestly, should be taking the setup the GT has, and adding some kind of turbo setup. Yes, the early Darts with the 1.4T failed completely (bad fuel economy and bad transmissions didn't help), but there should be some kind of middle ground there. How hard would it be to just shove in that tiny V6 from the Jeep? Kids dig that, right?
 
A 2.4 n/a sounds right up my street, but then I'm a rev masochist who enjoys working the heck out of modest outputs.
 
The 2.4L is just an "okay" engine. I've spent a lot of time with it in the GF's Jeep Renegade, and I'm usually neither here nor there on it. I do like that its got the power down low, but it just doesn't make a sound that's engaging, much less put any kind of tingle down your spine. Its a workhorse engine, available in almost every FCA car in North America these days, and it shows. I'd much rather have a Dart GLH with the 1.4T out of the Abarth (doable, its already been done), with that same non-muffler system that car has. Crank that thing well north of 200 BHP and that'd be a hell of a GLH redux.
 
The GLH is planned to be in production says the dealer show in Vegas like 3 mths ago. It will be placed under the SRT.

Even if they plan to do it, its a model without a powertrain.

If they're going to sell the GLH as a dolled-up GT, they're going to need to do a hell of a lot more to convince not only the fanbase, but buyers in general, that the car is worth it. Sure, FCA says there is a new turbocharged powerplant on the way, but we've seen little to no evidence that it exists, let alone what kind of power it'd be making in order to keep competitive. The 2.4L is just an okay engine, well enough in a Rallye, not quite enough for the GT, 2/3rds of what it should be for a GLH.

The last few gems of Civic have been terrible.
 
So Dodge brought back the "GLH" badge. Darn, I was happy at first, then my spirits were shot down on the fact it's just an appearance only thing. *sigh*

I really wish they would release a SRT model now and maybe a SRT Hellkitten. :P

The Sema car is just a concept, it has nothing to do with the actual upcoming GLH other than having the letters. The hood alone is already optional/standard on GT darts

I'm aware that it's a concept. I was just upset at the moment that Dodge would slam the GLH badge on what looks to be a regular Dart with an appearance package.

I just didn't know that there was a production model planned. If there is one planned, then I hope Dodge makes it quick.

Damn, I actually didn't mind the Dart. If they made a hatch it could probably have stuck around and go against the Focus and Cruze if it wasn't already.

Why does Dodge kill everything thats unique and cool about them?
 
Well, I'm certainly not an expert in what cars sell these days, but I'm not sure that FCA is making a smart move by taking out a complete segment just to add more Trucks and UVs.

The Dart? Nothing. The Neon? Everything.

I'm not surprised the Dart is dead, I don't think it ever sold terribly well in a really crowded segment.
