Dodge Demon concept

Like the article says, I think pricing is the key. I mean look at everything else. Made in China, Made in China, Made in China, Made in China.

Many car manufacturers got their start by selling cheap, crappy cars. Just make sure you wash your hands after touching this Dodge. And whatever you do, don't put it in your mouth.

FWD? Holy fail. I thought this was going to be an MX-5, Solstice/Sky competitor? Not with FWD it will...

I some how didn't think this was true when I read it, not only is it going to be a FWD roadster, it's going to be built on a Chinese platform...something I do not think is really ready for America yet. This furthers my belief that Chrysler employs the morons of the automotive world.

How the hell did this happen? It seems like Chrysler is taking wrong turns at every chance.

.............................

Chrysler could have had a coup of automotive fun, yet they instead make it front wheel drive, made in China, and intend it to compete with two fantastic rear-drive roadsters who don't have the quality stigmas to deal with. (i.e. the MX-5 and Sky/Solstice aren't Chryslers and they aren't built in China.)

Good work, guys!

It'll have been crap anyway. Might as well be front drive and made in China.

It's cost cutting. Did we whine and moan when the TT turned out to be FWD?

While true, the problem is that the TT is already based on a rather-good FWD chassis. Clearly, if this sucker is a Cherry, it will not be the case.

So let me get this straight:

This is going to be a Chinese-made Dihatsu Copen with Dodge Viper styling?

Yeah. About that Pontiac Solstice and Mazda MX-5...

Oh...this is just a bad dream. I'll wake up tomorow and Chrysler will have reversed their decision, right? and have broken off all ties with Chery? that was a stupid move, one in a long line since being dumped by Mercedes...

I'm sorry Horace, you and your brother's company really sucks right now.

The CheryDodgehatsu Fierce-Demon-Excitement-Convertible. Coming in 2008 to a place of ridicule near you.

I hope they don't GASP get bought out by Chery....

The front looks really good (instantly screams Viper) but the rear end just does not go with the rest of the car at all. Its like a TT Quattro or 350 Z rear end. Not that those are bad cars but it doesnt look right with a Viper front.
EDIT: I also dont like the way the wheel wells are shaped. If you look again you will see that they are not round like most other cars. THey have a tringle dip taken out of them.

Sorry TopHat, but what do you mean "turned out?" VAG is well-known for primarily building FWD cars, and both generations of TT have had AWD models available (which, as we all know, Audi specifically is well-known for). The fact that both generations of base model TT have been FWD isn't surprising. It also isn't all that bothersome, because as YSSMAN touched on, VAG generally builds good FWD cars.

This, on the other hand, is a case of a supposed Miata/Solstice competitor turning out to be a reskinned FWD Chery. Obviously, it's no longer a competitor to either of those cars, but I highly doubt it'll be a TT competitor, either.

Front-wheel drive? If it's under 200hp, it should be alright.

The car unfortunately does not use lines effectively to pare off any visual height.

The Dodge Razor was actually named after the Razor scooter, to "pay a tribute to the personal transportation device that challenged the skateboard for popularity among teenagers too young to drive". Thus, the same font is used. Apparently, it was built to try and capture the 'minimalist' spirit that the scooter and the 1960s European cars had.

It actually does not look quite that bad, but the Demon is interesting.

It depends on pricing, purely. If Dodge does everything right, we could have a successful Lotus Elan-esque car. If they don't, they could have a Lotus Elan.

Erm, did you miss the whole Chinese connection part? This is a disaster waiting to happen. There is only one thing that will make this worth while...and that is a pricetag under $15k.

Very true: It could just be a Chery chassis and nothing else. It wouldn't be that bad in that case, but I'm certain it even being mildly Chinese pisses enough people off...

Under $15K? If I'm gonna buy a Chinese car, I want my Chinese pricing! :D

$12,000 might be acceptable. You know, not the MSRP, but real life pricing(after rebates, etc.).

Well, if Chery makes an EPIC increase in build quality, and this car actually turns out to be a good sporting vehicle, I'll be surprised. and If somehow the SRT-4 engine winds up in it, I'll be frightened.

It is still wrong-wheel drive, and a RWD roadster with that SRT-4 mill would've been awesome. I'm still dissappointed.

A RWD roadster with the SRT4 engine setup would be flat-out godly fast. I just don't understand why they don't do it? Hello Chrysler? You there? People want the SRT4 engine...so stuff it into something COOL--that is not the Calibur. A RWD roadster Chinese made or not with the SRT4 engine would sell like no one's business if they do it. Hell, I might buy one if it was cheap enough. The SRT4 "Neon" was the fastest car in production for under $25k. And they sold tons of them.

Maybe they are trying to cut into the market that the Renault Dacia Logan and the Tata Nano have, as a 'prestige vehicle'. Or, malignant marketing that does not favour the performance enthusiast have management set on this chassis to reduce costs. Or, it was the right size.

For shame if any.
