It's still ugly, I've never really been to much of a Viper fan. I'll take the Z06 over that thing anyday.

You mean the new C6 Z06, right? I'll admit, I'd pay to see the SRT-10 Coupe '06 and the C6 Z06 throw down. And that price...

Though I must ask: what exactly do you find ugly about the Viper? The hood? The roof design? The front grille? Please elaborate. :)

Only 500 HP? Sorry, I'll just buy a Corvette C6.

That's a rounded figure, I think. I've read from other sites that the true figure's something like 503-505 HP.

Frankly, though, I'd say that the 'Vette's lighter weight and slight edge in acceleration would be a better reason to favor it rather than HP. 👍

Complete oppoiste end of the spectrum opinion from me.

I love the vipers styling, I mean wether or not you like them, when you see one you go "Hey a Viper" I've never caught myself doin that with a corvette.

Considering the Viper SRT-10 convertible is on the heels of the Ford GT. I think it's safe to say that the SRT-10 coupe will be right there witht he Z06, and it'll probably cost the same if not less than the z06.

Like it or not the new z06 is going to cost a pretty penny simply for all the hype it's getting now.
It's supposed to sell for what? 65.5? Something around there? I gaurentee for the first year they mainly go for prices in the 80's... Which is what the Viper sits at right now.

And we don't know how the new vette accelerates.
I mean from 0-120MPH the SRT-10 convertible is behind the Ford GT by .3 seconds

That's not a big margain. Not to mention the viper handles extrodinarily well, with a good driver that is.

I don't know about where you live, but I see about 500+ Corvettes for every Viper I see. When I do see a Corvette, I always make sure to take a good look.

Well, the C6 Z06 does go 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. The Viper is stated to go 0-60 in "under 4 seconds". Considering how much heavier the Viper is, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Vette edges it out a bit in the accel department.

But I have to be honest with you. I know the Viper isn't the best car out there...but dammit, I love the thing anyway. I've been a Viper fan ever since the RT/10 came out. And if I ever got my hands on one (fat chance, but still), I'd be happy to match it against the likes of the Z06. Even if it doesn't win, it's still my favorite car, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. 👍

If the C6 is only that much faster (and it probably is), think of how good the Viper could be if DC had devoted as much development time and money to it as GM did the C6.

 Now that would be one hell of a Viper. Until then, there's always such options as customizable trannies, better-breathing exhaust systems, and other such things to simulate that effect.

Well let's make the not so brash assumption, that the coupe will perform better than the Convetible. Now motor trend got the SRT-10 to 3.9 0-60 and a 11.7 sec 1/4. They got it to stop from 60-0 in 97 feet, 14 feet shorter than the Ford GT's. I think that even IF the vette "edges" out the viper, it won't be anything that would make one car superior to the other, it'd come down to the driver.

This has to be the bets looking viper yet. It takes everything good visually about the GTS and SRT-10 and makes one mean machine. We need a more powerful version! Supercharger, anyone?

Very, very true. And the Viper is known for being a car that rewards skillful driving. I'd love to see how an SRT-10 Coupe would perform with a professional driver and a fully optimized suspension/tranny/ECU.

EDIT: You know what? Scratch that; give me two pro drivers in a Viper and a C6 Z06 with BOTH cars fully optimized and let them loose on each other on a road course. That would be a sight to see.

Supercharger, anyone?

Nah, it's not needed. Just give it an exhaust that breathes even better, mess with the engine computer, and a customizable tranny. That should be more than enough tuning to make it deadly at the races.

...Although, there is supposed to be a Viper SRT-10 Competition Coupe as well...

I think as Driftster has said in the past, Vipers are very demanding cars.
You can't exactly be a 16 year old, step into a Viper, and then think you can drive it right. OH NO!
Vipers might actually require the driver to have some experience with a high performance car.

Funny thing is, that quality is one of the things that PD got right about the Vipers that are in GT4. I must've gone into the Nurburgring's wall 50 or so times before I got the braking points and entry/exit speeds right for the GTS. :scared:

I like the firepower but it looks like Chrystlers trying to hard to bring British styling into the play. You can't put a "hemi" in an "Aston Martin" You know what i'm saying?..I'd take a V10 over the V8 anyday..

At first, I just thought it looked like a Viper with a Crossfire's back end...but yeah, I do see a resemblance to Aston Martin cars. The Vanquish V12, in particular.

The origional purpose of the Firepower was to compete with the base C6. it's based on a viper chassis with the 425 hp 6.1 liter hemi used in the SRT-8 cars, giving it a slight HP advantage to the base 400 hp C6.

I was really hoping for 600 hp this time. That 8.3 liter V10 seems way to laid back at 500 hp and the viper is heavier for sure. The SRT-10 coupe may have already lost here.

I wouldn't count it out just yet. This Viper may still be in the low 500s, but it appears to have much better acceleration and braking performance than before. If it handles well enough on the road, it may not need an extra 100 horses.

The Viper isn't THAT much heavier it's 231( the weight of a Fat z06 owner) more pounds than the Z06, and that's in convertible form.

Not to mention the Viper makes more torque (502 at the wheels with a K&N Filter) than the z06, and makes it a full 1000RPM's earlier.

Not to mention the "modability" factory, in which the Viper wins hands down

I think the Vipers a pretty damn good challenge for the vette, if the vette beats it... Kudo's to Chevy, but I don't think it will.

Modability to a Viper over a Vette? What are you nuts? There are way more aftermarket go fast options for the Vette.

Blazin...Think of it this way...
the Ls7 has a 11.1:1 Compression ratio.....People are going to want to force induct it and all, but you know what you'll have to do? rip the engine down...Like it or not, not everyone likes disecting a brand new car just for 100extra ponies....And, you know aswell as I do there's going to be alot of burn hoods and unshelled engines just because people think "hey it's a vette it can be supercharged"

Uh I work with the C6 at work, the engine can take supercharging, not insane boost but it will take 5-8lbs. The Blue Devil is a supercharged with 5 lbs. and it makes up to 700hp.

but the C6 isn't the LS7...it's the LS2...And the blue devil's not running a normal LS7 with a supercharge bolted on, or they wouldn't be charging double..
