Rear wheel drive performance sedans have been the sole domain of the semi-luxury european segment for the last how many years, and now everyone is complaining about the naming cinventions of the resurgent muscle cars? They are ALL true to form, and offer so much more than the originals did. So much more than their competition (FF people movers or rice-mobiles). We have cars that are more or less American made, RWD, V8 machines that are putting out some amazing numbers, and will be decently fun to drive and are AFFORDABLE! After walking through a massive classic car show this weekend, I look at these new cars and see an alternative to buying a used BMW or Merc to get RWD and some handling(not a lot--just some. But better than ANY FF CRAPOLA!). The power is just gravy!
As far as the 2 door/4 door thing goes, most of you have NO idea how different it is to get into a 2 door car today than it used to be. We didn't even HAVE child car seats, let alone a LAW requiring their use. Besides the fact that the old muscle cars had more backseat room than a 760il, they were easy to get into, too. I'll bet M5Power has a pretty rough time getting his new car seat into the back seat of his car these days. Number of doors is immaterial to any arguement comparing old to new in my opinion, since the balance in ANY case is so much better in the new cars.
Now, having said that, I like the Monaro's styling better than the GTO's, but I think it's an awesome car. I love the Charger, too, and have discussed the re-introduction of RWD by American manufacturers considerably, especially in the family oriented markets, where dad would LIKE something sporty, but can't afford a Merc or BMW, and therefore had NO RWD options. I think the Charger is without competition in it's market, and think the others of the big 3 should follow suit by bringing the Falcon and the Commodore to the states--look, no R&D work! Just import them! And, I'll stop, before this turns into a rant.
