Does a bunch of races justify being called a career?

I bought the game for fun, not to be constantly challenged

When you work it out, create a thread on it and we'll come and troll it them same way you have done with mine.

I play GT6 for the fun of it, just like you, but I get fun from the escape from my job as an engineer and programmer, by being immersed in the prospect of owning and driving the cars, by being a racing driver, by managing my fictional career progression, by role playing and imagining the way of life very few people get to actually live, and then being able to share it with my kids
 
Please try to give useful feedback and draw up requirements for well balanced progression ... the more I think about it the harder it becomes ... and I'm beginning to see how hard it is to make a good career mode ...

I'll see if I can contribute some substance to this at some point, copy this into my "proposal for GT7" file and add to it when I have some spare cycles.
 
@Squanto I think you are trying to narrow it down too far, you mention many specific details that I would like to see . Most people don't want to be forced to play the game in such a specific way.

What I would like to see that would let people play how they would like, if it is done right, is have a c-spec mode with options to tailor the experience, a sort of career creator. Want to qualify for your races? Select it. Not a driving god? Set AI to medium. Want to be a clean racer? Pay for damage on. Stick to proper racing classes? Sure do, thanks for asking. Want to start with lots of cash? Yep, Rich Dad option on. Most things are already set in the game but are fixed, if the c-spec was a flexible career simulator the options could be set at the start and fixed until the driver is reborn.

One of the things I am really keen to see is the calendar. Year 1 in January, I'm not experienced to tackle the Dubai 24hr, so I'll do some indoor karting until the UK season starts, or I can pay to travel to another part of the world where the racing goes on in January and do some novice races (paying for expenses of course). If I was Australian and started my career there I wouldn't have that issue but when I got further in the game I would have to travel elsewhere for more races.

Year 2 in January, maybe I am signed to a team already and get a shot at the Dubai 24hr, if not, there is always next year and in the meantime I'll do some other warm weather races

And so on..
 
Guess I should drop it then, that approach for C-Spec sounds to me like an event creator with an extended set of variables. I like that too .. don't get me wrong ... but its too free format ... and sometimes I like to get guided through a career like thingy...
And yes I know not many people like to go through a career path like I approached it but still they also play NFS like careers .. which are also pretty much fixed paths .."story-lines"...

I personally like the seasonals in that sense too but when I get a gold ... I want to move on the next challenge and don't hang around to increase my time because that "part of your career" will be erased in a few weeks .. .. and for the next challenge i have to wait a few days/weeks and it won't record any of the achievements or times set ... this should be more cohesive and much more demanding ... they are too short really ... and should/can be a kind of career when glued together ... no?

I think I get what you're suggesting ... that's a nice one ... that calender approach ... but also then I like to see those levels of experience from Kart to RedBull ... thats what I liked so much in GT5 ... the AMG school ... Toscana ... even TGTT ! ... that feeling of slow progression ... i'm still working on Eiger with the Alfa on Toscana in GT5 ... the feeling when you finally achieve that gold ...man I love it..
I thought I sensed that in your OP too ... not being able to get gold in three rounds ... but after some labor sometimes days just trying that same track ... I thought you were hinting in that direction too ...

No, no don't drop it, everyone's ideas are valid. In my opinion, if you want to produce something useful for PD then they need ideas rather than specific details. If you say you want 5 races with 10 laps in a season will they listen more than just saying being able to choose the number of races or laps or just saying a multi-race season with realistic length races.

The big thing I've taken out of all these discussions on what GT6 is lacking is that loads of people don't want to be tied down and they just do the career mode to make money, but if we can show it can be flexible and offer a way of playing that is fun to those that just want to keep career mode simple and those that want something else from career mode.

I would like a way to tie it together more than just needing a licence to progress. Having an RPG-like aspect to parts of it, proper NPC you interact with like opponents, an agent, team manager, friends etc To many it would detract from the racing but as long as you can turn all that off and just list races, then they get their way to play and I get mine. There are many games out there that offer a sort of RPG angle to their game and are all the better for it, highly successful and critically acclaimed.

Making as many of the settings customisable in a "c-sec wizard" when you create your driver allows everybody to create their ideal career mode as opposed to the one I would choose, or you would choose or the one PD has given us is only half the picture.
 
You bought the game for fun, but if someone else bought it to, oh say, I don't know, race and be challenged in a race, then there is something wrong with their life and they have to put the game away. Stick to engineering and programming because you sure don't know anything about videogames and why people play them.

I don't care if they bought it for some other reason. More power to them. But if you have to rely on a *game to find challenge, then imo you're pretty pathetic. What a vapid way to live.

Others would say you're pathetic because you feel the need to psychoanalyze and pass judgment on a stranger's motivations for playing a videogame in whatever way pleases them. That's also a vapid way to live isn't it?
 
So many of the ingredients of what I am looking for in a career have been created in one of the GT1-5 incarnations:

Different classes and eras of road/race cars
Loads of tracks
Championships
Race weekend (practice/qualifying/race)
Licences
Adjustable AI level
Diary
GT Life
B-Spec
Shared driving endurance races
AI driver names
Selectable details (helmets/racing suits)
Special Events/coffee break/mission races
Real opponents (Online)

If only they could revisit the ideas they have already had they could come up with a much better, more immersive game rather than a the driving simulator we currently have.

Honestly, I'm not terribly concerned by what you think of me. And if you don't get what I said, then I feel sorry for you.

I don't rely on a video game to give me a challenge but I do prefer to play video games that do provide a challenge. I don't see a point in playing a game without a challenge and I'm not just talking about racing games. Guess you're more of a "press X for awesome" type of gamer.
