Does anybody else handicap their own car to make A-spec more challenging and fun?

If so, what, how, and why? Just curious. I usually run my car with the average weight, and power compared to the rest of the field, then use one grade worse tire than B-spec for that race. Just wondering if and what anybody else is trying?

No.

I don't like to lose, but if I lose to a better car then so be it. I race underpowered cars. I get thrashed on the straights but then make it up in corners.

If I do lose, then I judge if I drove well or need more power. I've driven cars with power restriction at 60%. Then increased to 65% next race to compete.

Yeah, I tend to win still the way I've been running, but it has made some of them a challenge. I tend to run Dream Car Championship a lot, and use my Z06 RM with 708 hp, 1090 kg, and Sport Soft Tires. You can still win if you can handle the car, but it makes you work a little.

It's no fun when you win with a lap or more. But when I run to win money, it's okay to be completed fast. But it's silly to lose a 24 hours race, because you chose a car that made the race exciting. Sometimes I put in handicap

It's mean to handicap a car that has been tuned to perfection! And this is how they sing:

Why cripple a work of art? It is not fun at all. Trying to handle a fully upgraded monst in tight roads with all aids disabled is fun!

This is one of the biggest problems with a spec IMO, if you want a challenging race then you have to experiment with different cars, setups and tires, wich can take some time! compared to other games who you can just switch to a harder setting. And when you find a car who is challenging, then you can bet its a much slower car then the car AI use. I stopped playing aspec, no challenge, no fun. Hotlapping and online is all I do in gt5.

Most of the time yes.I usually downgrade tyres for lesser events.Normally I use street tyres on a street car even when up against race car's.Sometimes there are exceptions though like when im up against a pescarolo C60 I have to use a proper race car but still downgrade the tyres to hards.

Oh, come on. Nobody likes a little challenge? Besides, it's fun to drive stock cars. Pretty much any car. Upgrading your car when you first get it, I understand because I used to do it in GT4. But, now it's just foolish, unless I have to win a race. If you want, give it little sports upgrades but nothing big. Mix it up a bit, choo know?

I've never used any of the aids with the exception of ABS-1... I hate going out and winning because my car can out perform every other car on the track without ever shifting out of 1st...

Exactly. I tend to set up cars with fixed sports suspension, and a sports clutch, then usually just tune the car to be less than even with the field on power and weight, and slicker tires.

well for me, if I'm using a car with good handling already like a Miata, then I won't change any handling, but i would supe it up with a Stage1 turbo, either filter, and sports exhaust. Basically, minimal amount of parts. I usually buy the ECU but in some cases i won't. I try to make it as fair as possible. For example, weight reduction on a supercar just doesn't seem right to me. It can't really ever be done in real life (why would someone like to) so I say no to that usually. I did it on my first expensive car, Superveloce. I regret it. And an engine upgrade. I'm just gonna have to buy it again.

This doesn't mean that I don't have any cars with all the upgrades. Most of my cars do, I just don't use them unless I wanna try something different. Think of GT5 as your canvas, do what you want, but fun isn't always about using a fast car. Unless you're drag racing.

Hell yeah, pretty much all the time. I take a class under what the AI is using to make races more challenging.

I'll take a GT500 or DTM if the AI is using group C cars, and a GT300 if it's using GT500s. And so on.

Sadly It's the only way to go if you want some decent challenge in A-spec.
