Don't really know if this in the right forum but yeah there are a few things I have missed from the old GT's mostly the qualify before the race.

I also preferred the lay out of Gran Turismo 4 it was nicer and way better but hopefully when they make GT6 they won't rush it and bring back most of the good stuff they left out in GT5

(Just a side note I think it would be awesome if Sony Re-Released GT1 and GT2 for PS3, I'm only saying this since my copies got stolen and I miss them)

In a word : No. A.I. Is so easy anyway so qualifying would do absolutely nothing for me.

Yea, its the right fourm. I second this, I personally enjoyed the qualifying, and as for the side note, mine are just scratched up. GT3 won't even work anymore. There really isn't a need for the qualifying, but would be helpful online.

They said they will "improve" it, could mean a lot. Qualifying would only make sense with proper starts and proper racing. Endurance races could use them already though.

I agree. I missed the qualifying. I used it use the qualifying to measure my car against the AI and to get a car good enough to win but not insanely good that I could smash the competition. Also I used it to work my strategy for some of those races that I found more difficult either because I did not have a good enough car or the track was not known to me.

Yeah I agree. With proper racing qualifying would be crucial.
I know everyone has said this by now but it will be really interesting to find out how good the features in Spec II will actually be. Although I have faith in PD, the A.I. really needs a miracle lol.

The AI in GT games have always been slow, don't assume that by improving the AI they mean "Fixing them to make them faster".. Some people read way too much into stuff, expect too much and you will be disapointed.

I would be extremely surprised if the AI became faster, because the patch notes did not say anything that would lead me to believe that is the case.

But I thought you can already setup qualifying for online races. I've only done one online race so far but I remember we a did a timed practice lap where the lap times recorded determine the start positions. And if I remember correctly, you can set it up so that the fastest guy can start in pole position or the slowest driver starts at the front.

I would be surprised too, in a pleasant way that is. Whatever happens people will complain though. People will always want faster or slower so it's up to PD to try and please as many people as they can. Having a better selection of A.I. difficulty is a far more urgent thing than "better A.I."

I really miss the challenging races from previous GT games. The ones where you had to qualify and be consistent to have a reasonable chance of winning. I'm really fed up with putting massive restrictions on my cars just so I can have a decent race.

Oh well, at least there is always online. :)

Agreed, not sure why they seem to have ditched it completely. To me it added a lot even though it was surely very easy to implement.

The only races this would benefit in is the Nascar and FGT championships. and those are so freaking easy as-is you dont even need to qualify

I miss it as in GT4 I tried using slower cars for the races and tried to get pole and win the race for a series which was great fun.

Yeah I miss it, never understood why it was taken out. I know some people think the AI is too slow and that it would be too easy to get the pole, but nobody is forcing them to qualify.

If you could start an offline race first, how on earth would Polyphony create an artificial challenge for you by starting you at the back with the majority of the field at full speed on a flying lap ahead of you, eight carlengths between each of them.

Used the qualifying in GT4 to try to set up an even race. Without qualifying the races in GT5 aren't really races at all but car chases.

and standing starts too, please!

This!

Qualifying would be nice but a standing start wouldnt go a miss. With possibly faster (or programable AI difficulty) and improved AI behaviour a full grid of touring cars or similar would be a big improvement

I'd like Practice in A-spec GT mode. Starting in the pitlane and doing as many laps as I like to refine the setup. The AI will do laps as well and this will allow me to match their pace.

Qualifying should be a one shot deal starting in the last corner. Do well = start from pole, mess it up - start lower, go off the track and red your time = start at the back.

The AI would need a serious upgrade though.

Add maximum damage, tyre wear and increase the laps, to at least match B-spec races, and your getting where A-Spec should be.

Precisely.

Car chases without much of a clue what you need in mods and setup to be competitive.

AI difficulty is relative to the car one uses.
However - as many have said here - giving players the option to manipulate the strength of the AI, as we did in GT4, would be more than welcome.
Qualifying laps would be nice, too. And so would standing starts in some races.

Maybe its just my disc - but the AI seems to get more 'intelligent' as one levels up. Right now I'm at war with them, intent on beating them all in a Midget II. They run me off the road.

There is not much point to qualifying, unless each event has tighter entry restrictions. In GT1 there was strong restriction, and no 1 car was a game killer. In GT2 they had bhp limits to try and separate catalogues, but since then things have almost become a free for all.

Would be cool, but it isn't a feature in 2.0, so I don't think it will come.
Combined with standing starts would be fun though :D

I miss it too... So far the Spec II doesn't mention anything about qualifying... but anything is posible :) Let's wait and see what happens 👍

PD said they would be fixing the AI for 2.0

It will still be crap, the whole game was based around chase the leader down ( boring ! ) The AI has not evolved at all since teh very first game on PS1. Physics wise and the feel of driving you can't fault it apart from the stupid bumper car effect.
