Does anyone else view sound as a car's most important trait?

There's a video of a Sunbird with glasspacks floating around YouTube, I'll have to dig it up and post it so you can see how cool that engine actually sounds.

Please don't, I would rather my ears not get stabbed by 6 cylinders begging to be put out of their misery.

Made worse by the fact that there is less of a barrier to shield me from the screams.

I saw it earlier while talking to another member. I was laughing incredibly hard the entire time

No. I've enough hands on experience with both of them to know that anything other than the supercharged 60 degree ones are poop. Gutless engines IMO, that as someone said, sounds like firecrackers in a metal garbage can. I'd argue my dad's Escape is faster.

I forced myself to watch a V6 Sunbird with glasspacks while searching for one that was most akin to a tractor.

It was THE worst engine sound I have ever heard. That includes a 50cc 2-stroke dirtbike that made so little power I could hear the engine losing rpm when I hit a gust of wind.

I'd rather hear it with open headers than through glasspacks but that goes for most of anything.

If you are willing to make the trip I will pay for your pass to drag race my 3.3L Caravan up here against your Sunbird. And it's an automatic at that.

Alaska to New York?

How in the world is his car going to manage that?

Oh that's right, those engines aren't that reliable

If he can make it, I might think about giving him all that gas money for there and back

Maybe my friend with his Regal that has a 3800 in it will race you as well. I know for a FACT that car is GUTLESS. :sly:

No need, he can run a computer simulation of the drag race and describe in detail how it would play out, in increments of 10mph. ;)

Because computers can do everything!

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I won't be able to leave the state for a while because of work. The store I'm working at doesn't give you PTO until you've worked there for a year, so the best I could do would be to beg my boss to give me 0 hours for a couple weeks straight and hope I don't get fired for being useless. And since there are more expenses to a trip than just gas anyway, I really don't think that'd be the best idea. Lodging expenses would run me flat broke before I got halfway back to AK.

By October 2014, which is when I'll be eligable for paid vacation (and probably not much of it), this car may not be stock anymore.

Excuses, pure excuses.

Lodging? I thought you were a tough, manly man.

Manly men sleep in their macho *almost* muscle cars on the way to a race challenge.

Oooooooohhhh, it ain't gonna be stock boys! She's gittin' torn apart and slapped back together with some of Earls go fast juice. I bet it'll be a real flyin' machine once the carbon stickers are plunked on.

NOS!

Laughing at how wrong you were about it, I'm assuming.

OH MY GOD HE DID IT. HE ACTUALLY DID IT, HE POSTED THAT BLACK AND RED SUNBIRD.
I am laughing so damn hard right now, this is priceless, I have to screenshot it.

Let's all just take this in for a moment, you just posted THE WORST sounding car on the planet, as an example of how good it is?

Jesus, that's like aliens visiting, and being taught about how Hitler is a good Samaritan. (Yes, I'm comparing that car to Hitler.)

This has to be a joke, this has GOT to be a joke. Someone is running a ruse, a fix to see how far he can push the limits of disbelief before someone calls the bluff. I applaud you, for running this charade for near 4 years, bravo.

It was a pretty clever social experiment, I'll give you that.👍

Oh, and both of those stock Toyota's sound miles better, for one thing, they're not a V6, for another, they haven't been riced out to the point that would embarrass the driver.

I don't really care what that car looks like, since that's not the point of the video. But I still don't understand what you don't like about the sound of that car. Not refined enough for you?

It sounds like someone is badly mocking V8 and then combining it with a big four cylinder while blowing through a kazoo covered by a pair of ladies underwear.

High RPMs is somewhat where I hear it but its faint.

It just doesn't appeal to me. That doesn't make it bad though.

Design is the most important trait for me. Cornering and Power would come next in a tie.

However, sound lets me enjoy my truck more- it's stock design is pretty basic but i've improved it with matte bumper paint, custom bed cover, a "Ford Racing" windshield sticker, and a custom steel bumper.

I want pics lol.

I want pics lol.
Oh yeah, I never did put any on. Just a minute...

Hmm it seems it's not showing. You could try it again or use a hosting site.

Not the main selling point for me, but it does help. I got my old Mercedes because of its supposed reliability and the utility of having eighty cubic feet of cargo space. The howl of the M104 was just a very silky bonus. That moment when it changed intake runners at 3200 rpm was magic.

While not terribly important, my Pilot does sound great. Floor it from a dead stop, or from 30 mph (downshifts into first gear there..) and it definitely makes one heck of a noise. Had some fun with girlfriends with that.
