I just got to level 20 and I saw a couple of people here saying that's when the damage really starts to show.

Umm.....no. This is the result of driving into a wall at 160mph. NO MECHANICAL DAMAGE TO SPEAK OF! AT ALL!

so....what frigging level do we have to be to see some real damage implemented? 40?

I don't get why so many are anxious to smash in a wall and be rendered useless for the remainder of a race.

It's not so much that, more like people would prefer to know if the car they paid 20 million credits for isn't performing to 100% because it's taken one or two heavy knocks.

I think, even PD does not know, when the damage system starts to work and I would bet, it was not at finale stage when they released the game.

We all can just hope to get a patch with some damage system updates.

Till yet, you will not get any usable guide to damage your car or any serious fact about, when it starts to get realistic (because it never will happen)

That sums it up right there

Does anyone have a definitive guide to making people stop posting thread after thread about damage?

People will keep on posting about damage until PD releases a statement clarifying the current status of damage as it is implemented right now, and what the plans for improving it is like.

It takes a LOT of time and a lot of crashes to do damage in this game. I posted some pics of the 69 Camaro after 15 minutes of nonstop abuse. The body was deformed but it showed no sign at all of mechanical damage. Car still drove perfectly fine.

The "unlock at Lvl20" thing is BS IMO.

Like the OP, after Lvl20 I tried to damage some cars, and couldn't, driving round Daytona Oval the wrong way into oncoming traffic should cause at least some damage, but it didn't.

But, the weird thing is, I've raced at level 7 and seen my bumpers deformed by relatively low speed collisions.

It didn't seem to affect the performance though.

The weird thing is, that you get much more damage, the lower speed you have. Driving with 60 mph against a wall brings you more effect than driving against the wall with 200 mph.

Its also different per car too like everything else in the game. Some cars take massive damage, others dont. Some cars look very good in photomode, some dont. Some cars have doors that open after enough impact. Most dont. Some have very nice looking wheels, some dont. This ENTIRE game is hit and miss with every vehicle. We shouldnt have to "figure" this game out. GT5 is not consistent and is just not finished. 👎

Now that you mention it, I really don't remember much damage from walls. And I say that because I have really plowed into a couple at a good clip.

I think, and I'll try it out more tonight, the damage I've seen is from Vehicle to Vehicle contact.

You're completely missing the point.

Oh, and since there's no onscreen indicator for mechanical damage, I'd assume it doesn't exist. You have tyre temp/wear and that's it.

When I play online I get the most damage I scraped the wall and had a long scratch along the side of my S2000. Also my times was getting slower with my S2000 so I went to the GT auto and had 20,000 dollars worth of damage to the chassis and 12 to the motor when I fixed it my S2000 was flying again. I'm not to worried about damage though PD will fix it with a update to make it better.

We all hope so but we don´t know, what they will change and how much more effect it will have.

Its really weird (the damage) because if you drive slow and hit a car you can create dents bumps etc however when you plow something it does not affect you dramatically, I really think they have to tweek the settings, so heres to hopping for a patch.

Damage unlocked for me at level 18, still don't see any paint scratches though.

This whole "x unlocks at Lvl x" BS has got to stop, really it has, why would it "unlock" at Lvl 18 for you?, if it did indeed unlock at a certain Lvl it would be the same for everyone?, no?.

If something did indeed unlock at a certain Lvl, then the game would have told us, everything else that gets unlocked has a big screen telling you, why would PD not bother to tell you?.

This Lvl unlock thing has been the result of so much mis information.

Totally agree. This game sucks total ass as far as im concerned for the simple reason of the damage being a total trip into half-assed programming. When will KAZ figure out that Japanese people arent the only people who like racing games! I think he made an ok game, BUT he epic fails at making a awesomely great game because culturally he probably just does not understand what the many different audiences from around the world want in a racing sim. Look at the huge success of iRacing. They have a superb fan following! and a great physics and damage system! WITH REAL LICENSED CARS! Kaz just sucks at catering to the masses and instead made a game that he thought would be a "fun" racing sim. HE SAID REAL LIFE RACING AND GT5 ARE EXACTLY THE SAME!!!! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

that just chaps my ass because you dont wall-ride another competitors car to win races, and you sure as hell dont expect to complete a race after said wall ride.

huge let-down. Gamestop can buy my copy back. consider my weekend wasted. looking forward to GT6 maybe 10 YEARS FROM NOW! MAYBE WITH INTERIOR VIEWS AND CHANGABLE RIMS!

Agree, its funny how its gone all over the web that it unlocks at a certain lvl. I think what is confusing is that there is a lot of inconsistency with how the cars are made. So the damage looks different. And for some reason some car damage looks worse then others. some have cool panel separation and others don't even for premium cars. It has the makings of an awesome damage model so im sure over time it will look good, I hope the mechanical damage is good, as this will stop shunting and crazy driving in MP

Yes, please stop spreading that "damage per level" all over the net. If that is true, the game would have given you a message saying so (the message come up every time you unlock something at certain level, why not this?)

It does seem to show up in the online races a bit more. I have a feeling that damage was always unlocked, its just that early in the game we had slower cars that were harder to slam into things hard enough to start seeing it.

Very minimal damage system, I think what we've seen is all we're going to get.

EDIT: That being said, what did Kaz mean when he apparently said it 'appears later'? It could mean several things:
1. More stages of damage may unlock later in the game, whether that ties into the leveling system who f-ing knows.
2. It appears later in the sense of needing to slam a car into things for a while. As in 'later' in the same race after lots of crashes.
3. The quote could be so vague/badly translated/plain wrong as to be meaningless.
