I don't know if this thread has been done before and sorry that if there is one similiar to this.

Edit: Changed it and thought I add a poll to it. This will make a interesting thread rather than the thread title I made previously which made people get confused, but I think this is better.

GT6 career mode is probably beyond repair at this point, but more interesting and challenging events like the current rain event at Spa will be enough for me until we get GT7. CM at some point would obviously be great to have. I'm sure plenty of people are looking forward to making some custom tracks, especially if it will still allow building gps tracked layouts.

I'd like to see open cruising/ battle/ street-race events appear in offline.

Similar to the Sierra Time Rally events or Free Run online lobby where there are a large number of different PP vehicles on track,
you can cruise up to an opponent (pack of cars even) and trigger a race for the next lap/ laps/ sector.
possibly limit the range of vehicles on track to be +/- 100pp from your car.

sometimes you stumble onto a good lobby online where the other drivers are up for it

I just hope that PD eventually releases frickin' Course Maker. Been waiting way too long for it.

@Johnnypenso I wish mate, but I'll sacrifice seasonal events for a expanded career mode. What would you sacrifice? That's the question. :p

Neither. I think Seasonals are a necessity in this game given the way the basic game economy works. Seasonals are a way to earn large amounts of credits so you can fill your garage. At the same time, I think it should be part of the base game that new car and track DLC is somehow incorporated into the career mode or if not into the base career mode, into a separate series of events, like invitationals as in Project Cars.

@Johnnypenso Ah well like I said I'd wish for both improvements for seasonal and offline career mode to. It's true you do win a lot of credits and yeah the given the game economy it makes sense for seasonals. Oh good point bringing up Project Cars invitationals, but they can also do the thing that PD did in GT2 with that Event Generator. I don't know why it wasn't included in future GT titles after GT2 because it was such a cool feature.

Yep. sure. I think basically a lot of companies have they same problem... they have this great drive model and good gfx and sound and heaps of licensed cars... how do we make a compelling game slash story slash mission structure out of this.

IMO GT5/6 without seasonals is pretty much worthless (which is why GT6 didnt review well initially).

By the same token I havent seen any driving or simulator with a good mission structure. IMO the Forza Rivals thing is garbage but they are saved by their on disc race content.

GT6 is the polar opposite. Their Sierra, Senna whatever addition content is more of whats needed but obviously none of this will be reflected in reviews.

Isn't the seasonal events just an expanded career mode? What would be the difference?

Just that it would have career mode more of a purpose.

And that's a purpose they can't provide when they're in another part of the menu? It's like you're asking for a feature that's already there, only it has a different name.

Same with the event generator in GT2, isn't that just arcade mode in GT6?

The career mode has basically two faces... the mostly simple races that no one cares about because as long as you keep on the track you win OR the veyron on ascari which has become internet legend for the wrong reason.

And they try with the idiotic coffee break challenges.

You know at this rate, PD could basically recycle the GT6 mission structure and put it in GT7 with the new engine and they would get guaranteed 10 million sales so why fix what isnt broken?

@eran0004 I guess you can say that, but it's just rather you rather have more career expanded like the Red Bull challenges, but more realistic events..

Well Event Generatorin GT2 you actually get money unlike arcade mode in GT6. So there's a difference.

IMO the way the Senna content was handled in the game was the bare minimum effort. Here's a few TT's, run it and get a free car. Big deal. The only thing with less effort put into it would be to just give you the car by pushing a button. How about a Senna series? 2 or 3 race series in the Kart (ignoring the lack of kart tracks for a moment). 4 or 5 race series in the F3 car. At least a partial season of F1 racing in the Lotus. Big money, free cars etc.

I'd like to see a little more effort on PD's part to incorporate new content, especially the really special content like the Senna package, into a formal series of events instead of the same old boring time trials. How about actually making a plan for DLC like other developers do and release themed packs where the cars can be raced together and with the DLC comes a series of events? They can be added to the career and it's progression or invitational type events or something else, but at least put some effort into making the new content feel like part of the whole game rather than just something tacked on.

And that's a purpose they can't provide when they're in another part of the menu? It's like you're asking for a feature that's already there, only it has a different name.

Take it one step further and allow us to create our own series. Let us pick our cars and tracks, our difficulty level, PD assigns the prize money based on some algorithm involving length of race, difficulty, speed of the cars etc. Voila, a game that lasts forever and still feels like a game rather than just a bunch of individual races as it is in Arcade Mode. Assign a rating or ranking to players and create world leaderboards. Finish the career mode and you're at 100. Continue on playing and the game uses a simple algorithm based on time or laps complete, difficult etc. and you can reach 200, 300 and beyond. Something you don't need to be even a good driver to compete in, you just need to put a lot of time into the game, which a lot of people want to do.

I agree completely @Johnnypenso

The Senna content could've been excuted better and I mean BETTER. Why not races with PDI formulas and Aryton Senna's F1's or one make races with the Lotus F1 or something to an extent. PDI logic is to just tack on content than execute content correctly at the end of the day sadly.

@eran0004 I guess you can say that, but it's just rather you rather have more career expanded like the Red Bull challenges, but more realistic events..

But the career is expanded, that's what the seasonal events do. What would an "expanded career" do that the seasonal events doesn't already do?

Well Event Generatorin GT2 you actually get money unlike arcade mode in GT6. So there's a difference.

You get plenty of rewards elsewhere in the game so at least in my book that's a meaningless difference.
The key functions are the same: You pick a car, select a difficulty setting and the game picks opponents accordingly.

The core question is - Is career Mode in GT6 convincing?

GT4, looked at for comparison, was more immersive (for me) than 5 or 6.

I played GT5 completely offline till the end investigating its 'Career Mode' and the playability of the original game (Version 1.00) as released, and yes, there was a game in it and there was a progression and some sort of Career, as well as a career managing a racing team, but still not as captivating or as immersive as GT4, though there were areas of GT5 that improved on GT4.

In comparison to both, GT6 can be regarded as sterile. Yet, GT6 also has sectors that are unique and immersive - like the Senna events for instance. The impact that A-Spec Seasonals has on the career mode is to inject fresh blood continually into the stream, but this, while palatable, won't satisfy for too long.

A story is needed, a 'MY GT LIfe' progression that the player has to 'live' through, and has to make the right decisions and input sufficient playing skill that will make the game reward and level-up the player towards a final objective. For now it's a smorgasbord of events that doesn't come together sensibly as a whole.

Something interesting i found out recently - when we play the Seasonals, we are actually playing 'offline' (as in hosting the event on our own consoles.)
You can pull the internet plug and still continue to play an A-Spec event (after you've clicked on it) many times over.
In essence - for that time - it's part of your offline 'career' mode.

Why not take a proper "career" mode like Old Race Driver/ F1 titles did.

Start you off in street cars/ Karts/ etc, doing 2-3 lap super-sprints like you would in a club day in your daily driver.
Then move up to basic open-wheelers/ modified street cars, your own Supercars/ muscle-cars (because to do this level of racing in real life you actually need to be loaded up with cash anyway)

After that, and depending on how well you've done (using the PP system aswell, lower PP of your own car but winning) gives you offers to compete in better classes, GT Production, Ferrari/ Porsche cup events, etc.
Then you work yourself up into the world of GT3, GT500, the Formula cars, etc.

I think the career mode lost it's way when it became less linear.

I think you should still have a bunch of special races/ championships available at any time, without having to unlock everything, if you can afford the car then you can race it, but doing the actual career progression will unlock more content faster.

I don't think it will be convincing until they start making the races longer. People can handle it, really.

All the early races are unnaturally short. This wouldn't be so bad, except each race event gets placed in a single category. Meaning if you happen to enjoy any of the types of racing featured in the beginner classes, the best you can do is run those same short races over and over.

In my opinion it's not very satisfying anymore.

There's a few very different demands going on.

People who are long term fans want features that they wont implement... stuff like longer races, perhaps qualifying.

However they know that the GT fan will largely buy GT7 no matter what so whats the point of pandering to old fans.

The new audience however perhaps has a shorter attention span because GT7 is fighting for eyeballs with mobile phones and other consoles and other forms of entertainment... so now you have it where 3 laps is the norm and you can see it in the coffee break challenges... have a quick burn, jump out of the game, meet friends on the new ps4 community, playroom, twitch upload or whatever the hell nonsense is going on with that console.

I think for many of us, the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR from PD or Turn10 has largely gone stale and nothing will get it back to its peak.

Remember flight simulators? adventure games? That's kind of where we're headed.

I'm always puzzled by my own attraction to the wonderful trailers for Forza and GT and it looks so AWESOME... and in the end, the game turns out like this. Lots of sizzle, not a lot of meat.

But the career is expanded, that's what the seasonal events do. What would an "expanded career" do that the seasonal events doesn't already do?
Seasonal events are just races, they have no effect on your career. There's no feeling of being in a racing career now, either in while in your career or in a Seasonal. It all needs to be tied together so it feels like it's all part of the same plan, not "a smorgasbord of events that doesn't come together sensibly as a whole", as @photonrider put it.

You get plenty of rewards elsewhere in the game so at least in my book that's a meaningless difference. The key functions are the same: You pick a car, select a difficulty setting and the game picks opponents accordingly
The key functions are not the same because you don't win any money. If you want to encourage people to use a part of the game it should be monetized, I see no reason why this shouldn't be done. Not winning money is a massive difference between events when some of the vehicles in the game cost $20Million.

A career is a series of events in an order than pertains to leveling up.

The game does do that. However, it does not start out series specific. It should start with karts and you should choose a ladder from there on.

Example
Karts ---> Low level open wheel ---> Medium level open wheel ---> Eventually getting to IndyCar or F1

You can do this with so many different series it is not funny. :dopey:

No.

And it never will until PD get rid of the catch the rabbit nonsense.
I don't mind the random car selection because that's what makes GT well erm GT, but grid starts, practice & qualifying are a must for a fully convincing career IMO.

With better AI of course & adjustable race length to boot.

I didn't feel that way at all about GT6. It felt like a whole bunch of seasonals strung together. The license tests used to make the game feel like you were climbing the ladder in the game and progressing through career mode. In this, you have to complete races, then do licenses, then do more races, then licenses. It became a different form of leveling up where as GT4 felt like it had true progression, and even GT5, with their leveling up through experience points felt more progressive than GT6. That's how I feel about it. GT6 could have stuck with the formula, but im guessing that KY and PD wanted the game to appeal to causal players that didn't want to sit through playing 4 hour endurance races and wanted an easy go at the game. (maybe because the game pulls a great deal of system resources too to not damage any ps3's, the game was made shorter)

The omission of real endurance races and no race of any sort for the FGT. An epic car sadly neglected. I don't count the rail riding Red Bulls. The novelty has worn off for me on those.

As much as I'd like to see grid starts, practice and qualifying in career mode, what would be the point when you've got AI so slow? Qualifying would be a foregone conclusion and then you've have a hot lapping race to see how many of the other drivers you can lap. At least with how it is now, I get to overtake something on the first lap.:p

I think the main problem with the game for me now is that it treads water with the set skill level. How much better would it be to have the fiendish online seasonal AI they put up every now and then? They really push me and I've even failed at 1 or 2. That level of a consistent challenge in career mode would be brilliant and I'd be forced to improve to get past them. Obviously as an option so it doesn't alienate the casuals.

Not holding my breath on the improved AI but there's definitely space for a proper endurance race category. 24 minutes of Le Mans is laughable.
