Does my dog have cancer?

Wait. Why are you asking a bunch of pimple faced teenage gamers instead of a veterinarian?

I hope for the best for your dog, however. It doesn't look all that harmless.

Wait; you guys see a pic? I see nothing. Not even a red X.

Damn Imageshack doing some nasty spy junk or spam crap again and my programs are filtering it. I'm getting really sick and tired of them.

Looks like a huge cyst to me. My uncle's dog had a few cysts, but actually had a huge tumor on the inside. Take it to the vet, dude.

Is it soft and squishy or firm?

And, if it's firm, is it rock-firm or surface-tension-firm? If it's like a rough rock, it could very well be a tumor.

How long has that lump been there? Did you not notice it before? Get him to the vet and get those tests underway.

I hope you have insurance aswell as vet bills are usually quite high.

One of my dogs gets those huge cysts removed every 6-12 months. We get them removed, because they are cancerous (although benign). Doesn't cost much.

Exactly. If it's squishy, it's probably just a cyst. A tumor would be quite firm. Either way, it should go, because even a benign cyst can cause problems. Plus, eventually, the dog will start worrying it, and then it will never heal.

Get the dog to a vet.

Thank you for the responses everyone. I thought maybe someone here could tell me more than I knew before I went to a vet. I won't be able to get my dog into the vet until Tuesday, I've made the appointment.

I saw the cyst on her leg a long time ago, but it was not that big. It seemed squishy when I touched it, but I also didn't want to hurt the dog.

…one wonders how people let this sort of thing get out of hand. You should have got this checked out earlier.

Oh, by the way: when there’s a tennis ball hanging off your leg it doesn’t matter if it’s cancerous or not – it can’t be good!

I talked to a vet assistant who told me that dogs that age sometimes grow cysts if they've never been spayed. I've been told to at least get it to a vet to be removed and at that time it can also be told if it is in fact cancerous.

I find it funny that you're asking people on the internet if your dog has cancer with a few pictures.

Hope she doesn't though.

Hey Jjacks.

although what everyone is saying bout getting your dog to a vets is good advice, i understand what worry bout costs and maybe losing your pet can do to you!
Just one question....

Where the growth is, is that where your dog lays? mmmm did it used to lay on that part of its leg without something soft under it? Could be similar to 'house wives knee' in humans. just fluid protecting a sore spot.

try not to worry, but do let us know what the vet says!

Going by what's been described, I can say it could be a big deal or just a minor one.

Does the cyst effect the dog in any way? If so, go to a vet and see about getting it removed.

If not, is the dog old? If the dog is elderly, and not effected by it, skip it.

My friends toy poodle had a fist size cyst on her side. It didn't effect the dog one bit. It died 7 years later of VERY old age. (Actually, they had to put her down. It was blind and going completely deaf.)

The dog lays in every position I think a dog can lay. It doesn't seem to bother her. I don't even think she knows it's there. My dog is 8 years old, about the age where the dog is supposed to be getting old.

The vet bill is no problem, just getting her there with my schedule is the tricky part. I've got things going on Tuesday She'll end up getting there though.

I'll let those of you who have expressed an interest know the results after the testing.

Just make sure someone goes with you to the vets. You dont wanna be lifting the dog onto the table with your hand.....

good luck
👍

One of my dogs had a lump like that, it was a cyst - like most of the other posters here think. The lump looks to be very round which to me would suggest it's fluid filled, like a cyst, which would certainly point to it being benign.

Extra Testicle!:dopey:

Seriously- take the poor thing to a Veterinarian already! :guilty:
A dog I had once had something like that- turned out to be a cyst- they grow really quick, and can result from the tiniest scratch- if you are game and ready to be grossed out- you could try to lance and drain it yourself!:yuck:

Didnt you say you were taking her to the vets on tuesday? wasnt that yesterday? don't know your time line, but it was for me!
what did they say?

The bump on her leg has turned out to be nothing more than a puss ball. The vet cleared it all up by just releasing the build up it had. I've been told that if it comes back, we'll just do the same thing.

Well, my dog doesn't have cancer. Yippie!

Lock anyone?
