They really do help you learn how to drive faster. I really did get better by spending the time to get gold on all of them.

Also, you do get reward cars from getting bronze, silver, or gold in all the tests for each of the different licenses.

From my point of view, the only worthwhile license tests to do was get all gold on S class. This is the only way to get the GT-Academy GT-R Spec V, unless you trade for it, of course.

Do they do anything for you other than getting the cars and xp afterwards?

It can provide people a basic standpoint on how well you drive, but not what your style is. It's kinda like standardized testing, really.

Well, having 60 golds makes people think your a better driver.
this is true..me i don't care about these licenses..after i get a bronze in the first try then i proceed to the next test..if i get gold or silver in the first try then it's good. having gold all these licenses doesn't prove you're a good driver but at least it can help to improve your skills.sorry for bad english.:)

Obtaining certain classes of license is not mandatory in GT5 in contrast the fact that it has been due in other series of GT, so you can take part in the events at least if you can meet the minimum requirement of A or B-spec levels necessary for participation or qualification.

However, not having to do any licenses means the essence of being successful as a simulative racing driver is awfully messed up unlike in reality where getting a driver's license is indispensable for gaining experience as the calling, therefore, people's preferences toward this alternative system differ vastly since it's still vague whether this feature is suitable in a real driving simulator or not.

Golding all the licences means you are a good driver. The licences teach you quite a bit.

Take that damn blue 370z at indy hairpins licence (ib3or 4 cant remember) as an example. Cant be golded u until you perfect your driving line and braking. Can be frustrating but you will come out of it a more patient and methodical driver.

The lessons learnt from some of the licences are invaluable towards gameplay. Some are easy some arnt. I enjoyed doing all my licences. Wish there were more.

Licences help you learn the fundamentals of car control and racecraft. I've never understood why they needed to do any more than that in the first place.

In the old games the license tests were there not only to give you a grounding on how different the cars behaved and learning the basics of racing, but they were at the front of the game and needed to be completed to open up racing events in the main game.
I think PD got this aspect of GT5 wrong and it should've still been at the beginning.

Let's see...

1. They teach you basic and advanced tips for driving your vehicles.
2. They allow you to gather XP faster than racing normally would.
3. Game completion. Why else would there be gold, silver and bronze trophies to gain?
4. Cars. The tests allow you to get more cars early on to help you win events. Each licence has a car exclusive to a trophy from that licence, so there would be a car to gain from getting all bronze medals on B licence, etc.

I do horribly on most races I attempt even though I got all golds on the licenses about a year ago. You have to keep trying to get the gold times regularly to keep up your skills even if you have golds in them already. For the past year I have mainly been just playing around in photomode rather than racing.
