Ok viper, if there is no OS in DC then explain how it can burn CD's? Explain how you can adjust it to read all different formats of CD's? Is it magic? I know it doesn't store triggers so what's your explaination on that?

What the hell are you talking about? DC can burn CDs? Um, no. You need a mod chip if you want to read different types of CDs.

Anyway...

That STALKER game looks very promising too. It looks just as good as Half Life 2.

Yeah, they said there will be 2 versions available. A low resolution version and high resolution version. Interesting...

I'm sorry guy, but no you don't need a mod chip..The Sega DC was a Ram chip away from being a personal computer man. You can run NTSC And PAL CD's on the SAME DC without adding a Mod chip, you just have to know what you're doing. One of my good friends just happens to be a DC Freak who has managed to pretty much make his DC his PC, to the point he has interfaced a printer.

---Edit---

If you guys are talking about the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It looks pretty cheezy. cheaply modeled hand's and firearm's, cheezy grass. The only thing that looks decent are a FEW of the buildings. It looks like the same engine as IGI2

Would this be available on one CD? I don't think selling a low res and high res versions would be very good. Everyone would just buy the high res version.

I don't know really. The game would probably come with 2 CDs. One for high res and one for low res.

From Gamespot
Activision's latest financial earnings call reveals delays for several major games.

In its quarterly earnings call, Activision announced several significant changes to its release calendar for 2003 and 2004. Most notably, Activision said that it will, "for planning purposes," assume that Doom 3 won't be out until early 2004, but reminded that "as you know, id decides when it ships, not Activision." At many occasions since E3 2002, id has said the plan was to release the game by the end of 2003, but id's Tim Willits told us in May that the game won't ship until the studio is happy with it.

They have it set for 3/15/2004 on gamespot.

Financial report? Blah.

Id ****ted their pants when the saw Half Life 2 and they are trying to make Doom 3 better than HL2.

That's what I think.

Its possible but Doom III already looks good. Dont really know what carmack is thinking but my guess is he wants people to get over hl2 then release Doom III. At least thats what some people are saying on another board. Lets hope they dont do anything like DNF.

Well Chris, I've played Postal 2... and pissing on people 'n throwing cats at them is funny for about 5 minutes... then it's ultimately boring :|

<Z>

The lighting on Doom 3 is better than the lighting on HL 2. Doom 3 has Carmack. End of story. Doom wins. John Carmack is my hero, and a genius...

In the end of the day Doom 3 is going to be the better Game, game wise, meaning you'll get into it more, you'll wonder "what was that" more, it'll suck you in. Half life 2 will be awesome aswell, but when you're playing you'll never really feel enthrawled by it, ya know? Oh well I got both on preorder, hey this is the most things i've ever had on preorder before,4, Half life 2 Doom 3 GT4 and the Logitec wheel, and John Carmack is like the biggest geek in the fact of the world. I finally saw what he looked like, oh my god. It's the kid from "Problem Child" with 3 inch glasses and a lisp.

Doom 3 BFG Edition "Lost Missions" Trailer

Announcement Trailer

The BFG Edition will feature "greatly enhanced graphics", better sound with more horror effects, a checkpoint save system, and support for 3D displays and HMDs. The game will also include the previous expansion Resurrection of Evil and a new single player expansion pack called The Lost Mission. Additionally, it will include copies of the original Doom, and Doom 2. The BFG Edition will also feature the ability to use the flashlight while holding a weapon, in the form of the so-called armor-mounted flashlight.

Carmack: 30fps on consoles, 60fps on the PC – Doom 3 levels more taxing than RAGE’s

DSOGaming
Carmack revealed that the BFG version of Doom 3 will run with 60Hz on consoles in 3D mode. This basically means that Doom 3: BFG will be a 30fps game for both X360 and PS3. The PC version, on the other hand, will offer true 120Hz 3D stereoscopic experience, meaning that PC gamers will enjoy 60fps at high resolutions.

Carmack admitted that RAGE lacked dynamic shadows and lights, something that had a huge impact on it. On the other hand, Carmack stated that the shadows were a bit harsh on Doom 3. However, the programmer guru said that it was great to see so many dynamic lights and shadows. Damn straight right, and that’s exactly what we want in our games. Carmack promised that their next game will feature more dynamic shadows.

Carmack has also admitted that the flashlight was not attached to the weapons in the original version of Doom 3 due to performance issues. Although this feature was awesome for its atmosphere, Carmack said that the flashlight would introduce an additional pass for dynamic shadows, meaning that it would had a significant performance hit.

This will be a day 1 purchase for me especially for $39.99. I played it back on the original xbox and its still to this day the best scary game I ever played. Audio scare perfection! The co-op was a blast. The 3d mode should be very interresting on my new 3d tv. The graphics were already really good on the xbox so I cant wait to see the improvements for the 360. :)

The thread was revived because Doom 3 is being ported to the PS3 and 360. I am guessing you dont have surround sound or never actually played it. Doom 3 was far from "boring".

I personally think its still one of the best scary games out there especially if you have surround sound. I will be picking up the 360 version of this tomorrow. Looking forward to the co-op campaign again. Plus it comes with Doom 1 and Doom 2.

So you're deciding that because my opinion is different to yours that I must not have played it?

If you didnt find the game to be repetitive and boring then that doesnt mean that others feel the same. I'm fairly sure that my view was a popular view at the time too, You can experience all you need in the first 30-60mins, after that its the same old thing over and over and over, everything looks the same before you go to hell.

Maybe you didnt play it for longer than 30 minutes? As for surround sound, I have no idea what speakers/headphones I was using 8 years ago, surround sound doesnt make the game less repetitive.

I beat the game at least 5 or 6 times. The co-op mode was a blast and far from repetitive imo. Yes surround sound does indeed make a huge difference in the experience. The audio in Doom 3 was dang near audio perfection in surround sound. Without surround sound I could see where it could possibly feel like the same thing over and over again. If you dont have surround sound you cant truly appreciate this game.

I completely disagree with you, I've had a few 5.1 surround sound systems going back to the Soundblaster Live 5.1 card that I bought for it over 10 years ago, and then I switched to a high quality stereo system and could not be happier, that would have been around 2003-2004. A good pair of headphones can give you the exact same thing, and the sound isn't changing what Is happening on screen. Like I said, sounding like a broken record.. Repetitive gameplay, repetitive visuals, same old over and over.

After the first 30-60 mins it is very clear to the player that he is walking through the same rooms and the game is giving him/her the same situations to play out over and over. This was a big criticism of the game in magazine reviews and with people I know who played it in general. I definitely felt the same way about it and that had nothing to do with surround sound.

Sound is really important in FPP games. So if they want to improve it it's the best idea.

This game goes with the time, new graphics, new sounds. Fantastic.

Exactly. To say sound makes no difference is just laughable. Especially when you compare a headset to a real 5.1 home stereo system. Huge difference. No sense in getting into that in here. Anyway moving on.

I am looking forward to picking this up tonight after work. The audio has been upgraded, the visuals, we no longer need to pick between flashlight or gun. I am also interrested in seeing what they did with the co-op. I dont think I have ever played Doom 2 so that will be another bonus. I have the arcade version of Doom 1 so that should be fun to play through again too. I am pretty sure thats also a co-op. So lots of co-op fun to be had for sure.

Look, you don't seem to get it. You're so caught up in your surround sound that you're ignoring the reason I found the game boring.

Halflife 2, constantly changing situations and environments, was a great game. Doom 3, same old same old over and over and over before hell, which itself is a very small part of the overall game.

You didn't have to pick between flashlight and gun on the PC version either, thanks to mods, the graphics were already awesome at the time, if anything they were too good for 2004. I thought it was a boring ass game after 30-60mins, surround sound isn't going to fix the problem of repetitiveness.

It's all well and good that the game doing the same thing for several hours (which it did, because by about the 10th time the game tried to scare me by doing nothing more than spawning an enemy behind me in the dark after I cleared the room the scare factor kind of went away because I knew it was coming before it did) managed to captivate you for the entirety of the game, but try to keep the "Well, you must not have played it/You weren't playing it right" silliness to a minimum when people call a spade a spade. Doom 3 was anachronistic by the time Half Life 2 came out, and 8 years later it isn't going to become a different game because they made it look better and included the duct tape mod by default.

And I am interested in this port, before you try to play that card with me.
