IT'S DONE!!!!!!!

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing!
It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with
Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally
GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our
numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.

So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting
at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of
your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with
your local retailer for that information.

Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't
because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process
takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built. I guess the
European manufacturers prefer to give their employees nights and weekends off. Go figure!

The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound!

I'll update again with some DOOM 3 preparation tips (not what hardware to buy - you'll have to wait for
a programmer for that sort of thing). In the meantime, I want to see those "DOOM 3 GOLD!!!" threads set
new records for swamping message board servers, destroying productivity, and post counts ;-)

Recapping today's headlines....DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

Yeah,i just read the news on another site.I can't wait to play this game,i especially buillt up my PC for this one.

Now the debate begins, get it on the PC or XBox. I'd say PC, becasue that would be a good game to have on my computer that I will be building.

I gave up on my pc to play any games unless it's the old emulators.....

I think Doom is best on the PC..... Mainly because high end PCs would enhance the game to a level never seen on a console...... (Mine wouldn't be able to play it)

PS2 will be impossible(Looking at the screenshots ofcourse) but maybe the Xbox would be able to play it (or the XBN).... It certainly would be better for people who can't afford a high end PC~ :)

Can't wait, being a Doom fan :D Having said that it looks more like a Survival horror this time round, but should still be great.

I'll definately be getting the PC version.

PS2 wouldn't be able to handle Doom 3, hell its impressive that they've managed to get it playable & with decent graphics on the Xbox. And after playing Chronicles of Riddick on the Xbox, its already proved it possible.

Ps2 can't handle Bump-Mapping :grumpy: and Doom II has bumpmapping everywhere!

It can handle bump-mapping, but unlike the Xbox, developers have to code it all themselves specifically for the PS2's convoluted language. This is why many early (and some newer) PS2 games were really jaggy; anti-aliasing isn't built-in.

I will have to say Doom III PC all the way.
A demo has been announced and will be released.

Doom II (2) doesnt have bump mapping anywhere it has plenty of sprites though. :D

I'm pretty psyched up for Doom 3 and I'll definitely get it opn the PC (since it comes out first is the biggest reason.)
The Xbox does have 1 giant advantage though and that is that it has a coop mode. (although I doubt the graphics will really be on the same level.)
We'll see how well my 9600 does seeing as I bought it as an interim card until HL2 came out.
I've seen the specs and they aren't pretty, with 2gigs of Ram being in the requirements for a high end system.

Holy ****,2 Gigs of RAM.That's insane.I belive that this game will run similar to Far Cry,with wich i had around 40 fps.

WTF? 2 gigs of ram? i hate games these days.
you need a top of the line system to play them.
like Deus Ex:IW i just bought that last week and i found out that none of my video cards can handle it. and seeing that this comes out before HL2 i want to get it, but no. damn high end games.
:grumpy:

Of course Xbox can handle it; it's a PC in an ugly case. For the same price, i'd buy it on PC.

But, this is good news for those of us who don't have powerful enough PCs to play the game. And that's a lot of people.

I'd be suprised if a celeron 733mhz(?) & a Ge-Force 3 PC could handle Doom III with the same level of graphics as the Xbox variant ;) I heard that the Xbox version had some framerate issues @ E3, but hopefully they'll have fixed that come release.

Hopefully my Radeon 9800, clocked past pro speeds should play Doom 3 above medium graphics @ atleast 30 fps.

Yeah but that most likely will come well after the full game comes out.

True but not split screen. As far as i know it will only be available for Xbox live and system link. Thats why I'm getting it for PC. ;)

Anyone tell me if my PC will run Doom3?
I'm running-1200mhz
384mb mem
20 gb hard drive
geforce 4200Ti 8x graphics card.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

That thing will explode if u try to run Doom 3 on it.j/k :)
Nah,you will most likely have to run it on low/medium low configuration to get a reasonable amout of frames per second.

My younger bros got a similar system spec, I think it will struggle unless you can disable most of the 'Direct X 9 tricks' & use Direct X 8 compatible effects instead. With low-medium settings as GTChamp2003 suggested I'd expect 25-30fps (might be even less) with slow down if the action gets hectic.

Don't think Doom 3 will be as 'low spec friendly' as Half-Life 2.

I heard that Doom 3 is more Nvidia friendly then ATI, is that true?

Yeah I heard its more suited to the architecture of the Nvidia cards (well the earlier FX's anyway). Whereas Half-Life 2 is more ATi friendly due to the different approach in the pixel shader handling.

Do you think I'll be able to play it at pretty good settings with :

P4 3.0ghz, FSB 800mhz
512mb DDR PC3200
ATI RADEON 9600XT (OD'd)

Definitely, as I understand it is scalable back to a Geforce MX card (but don't expect it to look great) but you really need more Ram. 512 is the minimum I'd want in a gaming rig under XP where new games really do need a gig to run smoothly.

Right now my rig looks similar to yours Viper_Maniac.
I have AMD Athlon XP 2100+,1 Gig of DDRAM,and the same videocard as you but in 2 weeks time my Alienware monster will arrive :mischievous: .
I'm not going to post any specs of it,don't want to make you guys jealous hehe. There will be 2 power supply's,up to you to figure out why hehe.

Well I would think it'd run fine at medium settings, since the Radeon 9600 is a proper direct x9 card.

 2 PSUs?!

My PCs a XP 2600+ with a gig of 2700 DDR, nForce 2 mobo, soon to arrive Audigy 2 coupled with a Radeon 9800 clocked past pro speeds & a brand new 480w Tagan PSU thanks to my Qtec one failing to boot my PC reliably anymore (Serves me right for skimping costs I guess).

I'm hoping to run Doom 3 in 'high detail' at around 40fps, I hope! :)

The second PSU will be for The GeForce 6800 since it requires it's own power supply.Price was high but it's definetly worth it.Don't think i'm rich or something,i have a full time job and the company paid for it hehe.
What,you thought i would lay down $4000 for a PC.Haha,i ain't crazy you know.
