drift versus grip: an online challenge

Actually, using a stock suspension, I found it pretty easy to drift a few corners, even on T8. It wasn't long enough for exhibition drift, but enough to cut a few tenths in some sectors (although still slow). I also tried using D2 on sector 9 hairpin, but I come out having almost the exact same sector time as when using Grip; therefore, I agree that Driftster must have a different style from us.
 
geez, it seems like I need a lot more practice to catch up with bengee ;) My time was 1'23"538 :mad:

edit: I forgot to look at my sector times, but I think I can do better in the morning :D Sleepy for me right now.
 
Technically driftster is still faster than me in the turns by .5ish seconds... That goddam hair... lol wanna b... if you really want we will do a ff as well as fr and 4wd...
 
Technically, yes. But I think you got him on the exit speeds. I have to check that first though.

See, Driftster goes in and out of turns slower on average. There must be a big difference in technique that allows him to just be fast overall.
 
The line... by entering corners a bit slower he is able to take a better line in the hair especially... and exit at a lower speed while taking significantly less time in the corners as a whole... remember that he has 1.5 seconds on my in the hair... and only .5 on a whole... i gained 1 second everywhere else...
 
I see what you mean. I've been trying to get that better line ever since I started this thing. Maybe I can try what he does and duplicate his entrance speeds to see if I can get a better line out of them. I'll try your speeds, too, if I can even match them.

I think we can all agree now that the hair is where Driftster beat the rest of us; and it could possibly be the make or break point of a race (as most low-speed corners are).
 
I might still be able to get a few better sector times than you and Driftster (like in sector 7 - long left U), but my overall performance won't be as good. BTW, what kind of settings are you using (applies to all)? This could be my problem (stock suspension and changed gear set got me my best time)--I'm only getting better incrementally.
 
It took me a long time to get a fast lap where i got a good time on sector 7. I am fairly sure that it can be at lest a couple tenths of a second faster ( i did do a better job once but not on a fast lap).

i have a 260-270ish hp car... i do not believe i have a turbo but i may be wrong... i will check later...

for suspension i am running on semi sports
lowered front and back by three
spring constants stock
shocks to 6
chamber to 1 and .5 (front rear)
sways at 2

brakes to 18
gears i have no idea at the moment... tweaked a bit but realtively close ratio in lower 5 but in 6 i give it a bit for a max speed of like 150-151...
 
Thanks for sharing, bengee. I think I'll try it. I've mostly been tweaking my driving style rather than my Elise 190. By the end of this challenge, I'm pretty sure I can gain at least 2 more seconds on my lap.
 
i pushed it to limit. in sector 12 exiting the s-turn the left 2 tires droped off the brum and in the grass:nervous: i used a very silght drift midway to exit in the corners. so im gonna say i used d1 dirving. the car had everything lvl 3, was n/a lvl 1, 1.5 way lsd. the only setup mod i did was move the front springs to 7.6. the car has 257hp. wish i didn't have use t8s :mad: the car is touch-e and the brums seem to suck the car into grass. heres my times:

yeah ill go get the entrance speeds. the ps2 is upstairs in my room. how bad are my times?
i just let car do what it wanted to. as long as it didn't get too crazy.
 
Your times are way better than my first runs through it. I know you can go faster than that. Oh, and don't worry: once this one is done, you get to use T2s rather than T8s.
 
And maybe even sims... lol

my first runs were about hte same as yours... it basically took me a day of work to get a fast time...
 
your entrance speed is where it says "speed" right? oh well heres my speeds:

that is correct... i will tell you how much you are lagging from the fastest time and such through corners if you would like me too... i think you just need to run a bit more...

yeah id kinda like to now how much im laggin. ill run some more later to day. ive had all i can take of that car right now:irked: i was hopen to get a well tuned n/a fwd and beat the drifters:( oh well.

well for sure there is going to be a fr and 4wd part... and if you and other would like to do ff we will do ff as well... as long as there is interest we will do it...
