wow I can't believe how hard this is. Oh well. I think I am just going to end up putting everyone's name in a hat a picking a name like I did on sony's gt forum. This is taking forever to get reviews.

Kai....

I thought there was going to be way more reviews/competition. What a bummer. I'm still up for racing everyone for fun, if Kai is going to draw out of a hat.

I'll send a prize car for the first place winner 👍

Edit: Just noticed all the emoticons are the happy guy, it was a thumbs up BTW.

I'd race, but I can't do the racing tonight. I'd most likely get smoked anyways.

Emoticons are changed for April Fool's Day it seems.

Not to be a jerk, but I'm a little confused about your post here. Taking forever to get reviews? By my count you've gotten between 40 and 50 entries. The fact that you've only picked 7 of them doesn't mean that there haven't been any.

Now this is your contest, you're free to run it however you want and set whatever criteria you want. But when at least two of chosen entries were just one or two sentences, and many of the unchosen were long, well-written and well thought-out, it makes the whole thing seem pointless.

One chosen submission was "I love GT5 and Kai's legs! OMGZ!!11!1!!!1" or something along those lines.

At first my thought was OK, she's looking for really good reviews, and those just don't stack up. No problem. But then some guy gets in because he hits on you? It really makes one wonder what exactly the criteria for a good review are. Why put in the effort when its so unclear as to what needs to be done?

I think its great that you're giving one away, I really do. That's a very generous thing. But I don't think you can really say that people aren't participating here.

I never accepted a review talking about anyone's legs. I only have 6 finalist at the moment. Someone dropped out a few days ago because of his schedule. How long a review is has nothing to do with being selected. Some of these reviews I really like.
Kai...

Ninjassan you are a finalist. Loved the review. Your gift car is C '63 AMG 08
3 spots left. Looking through the tread to see if I missed anything.

Kai.....

huskeR32 you are a finialist. GT-R Vspec is your gift car. 2 slots left. I hope to fill them today or tomorrow!

:guilty: Went back and checked, posts #245 & 246 are what I was referring to. On closer inspection (what I should have done before opening my mouth), your post is not a response to the one before it. 100% my fault. Sorry.

I hope you get some more good reviews!

Thx for the review necrodeemus. You have been chosen as a finalist for the DFGT wheel giveaway! Your gift car is a ZR-1 2010!

Gran Turismo 5, fantastic game with a few issues but first lets talk about the the most obvious parts of gt5.

GT's style hasn't changed much, since ever, it is simple and clean. The interfaces and menus are the same, simple, clean and just work.
Occasionally this is a problem, the game world and atmosphere can seem sterile, empty and ...safe (for racing). For the most part it's not a issue, well for me anyway, I prefer the clean sharp graphics which result from this emptiness.
What's that? Sharp graphics, yes, yes they are.
The premium cars have an amazing level of detail and nothing on them is questionable, their textures have no lack of resolution where it matters and every silhouette is near perfect (no blocky straight lines)
The car paint shader at certain lighting conditions is very close to a photo, weather effects look pretty decent and damp tracks look amazing. Tire smoke and skidmarks are pretty insane as far as I'm concerned, it can make for some great burn-outing fun, good thing you can't smell it though.

Car sounds have always been quite bad in past gt's, version 5 is much more acceptable. Still though the engines sound -as was said about the visual style- "safe" in the way that the sound is predictable at all times. There is the occasional car though, that sounds.. amazing.
Something certainly missing from the sound scene is wind, car vibration and road noise, well its there but hardly, an increase in the volume of such would have improved the sense of speed greatly.

I really like the music though, in race music is turned off from the get go though. I found the menu music high quality and very fitting, some people dont like the jazzy style though, I do, sometimes even just leaving the game on in menu to have the music in the background.

The driving experience is great I must say. I can't comment on the accuracy of the simulation but it feels really nice.
I really enjoy learning about adjusting the car tune, and feeling the result clearly.
The same cannot be said about the offline racing experience, the opponents are slow and seem to idle around the whole radius of every corner. They will not even compete with each other, 90% of the time driving around the track like a train in the same order they started.
There are some great driving challenges in GT5 such as; "Nissan GTR nurburgring official record", "x2010 challenge" and the "AMG nurburgring challenge" But these are the few only special type events that were really enjoyable.
Then there's the main races, not many, maybe a couple weeks worth. Disappointing compared to GT4 where it took yonks to progress.

There I believe is the main problem in GT5, a real lack of regular race events with competetive AI, inviting the need to grind the same race over and over to earn credits and points to buy cars, because the other races are not that interesting anyway.

I find the joy in buying cars, tuning them(or not) and trying to beat a time from something around a track. Ala "driving" (well, fast), that's what's really enjoyable in this game.

Although it may not sound like it, the game is extremely enjoyable. It has been in my ps3 since purchase (except bluray movies) Certainly a worthy purchase.
8.7/10

Here is my review^

Although what will happen in the ceremony race event in the likely event that everyone or even a single person is physically very far away? The race will be an absolute mess from latency:nervous: Do you have some thoughts on that?

One day I hope to have enough to give things away like this for no apparent reason, I like to give like that, but rarely if ever is it very feasible.

Hi,
I have written a 5 pages review (in word) about GT that should be published in some local forum, and it should be published in the site sometime during this week. The site on which the article should be published is www.hometheater.co.il

The only problem is that the article written in Hebrew language !!!

Is there anyway I can send you the article?

Thanks
Yossi

I could read the article and translate it for her:dopey: (I'm sure you can as well though). As far as I know, the race will be an online lounge race, not requiring people to physically be there.

My GT5 review.

I'm currently A-31/B-28 and 740 days (roughly) into the game.

I've played all five of the GT's. I feel that 4 was still the best game as a whole. But I do give 5 respect for the great game that it is.

I don't care if the tire smoke looks fake, it is. I don't care if a cars weight is a little off. On premium cars I personally like the fact that with full weight mod. the rear seats are still there, the dash is still there. Etc.

Anyways back to the game itself. I personally like seasonal races. It gives me a chance to drive some of my cars I normally don't drive, and they pay better than normal races. I like the fact that it changes weekly, monthly for some of the events, or currently open ended Ferrari F1.

There could have been more races, no doubt. But with what they put out, I am personally happy. I normally "finish" a game in a few weeks to a month. Still going strong on this and look forward to every session I get.

I do wish they would have added more tracks from previous models ie Seattle. As I live in the northwest us. But I'm very happy that they included tracks like the Top Gear test track. As I'm a huge fan of the show.

I look forward to future updates (possibly more premium cars/ tracks)

I'd give it a 8/10

Gran Turismo 5: Still a Step Forward

The excitement of beginning a new series in the Gran Turismo lineup was the same as always. Amongst some of the disappointing aspects of the game, are quite a few rock solid features.

Most importantly polyphony's step into the online and ever evolving game are a great step in the right direction. Although LAN functionality still evades GT, the ability to play online with friends is quite nice in its own right. With the ability to update key components of the game, as well as possibly add to the game itself, there is a lot to be happy about. This will ultimately help keep the GT community together, rather than have each person isolated to his or her console.

Although there have been quite a lot of negative opinions about certain qualities of the game, they do not affect the game play. However they are not unforgivable and rightfully detract from the game. Such as the aliasing issues through smoke, as well as blocky outlines in the wet courses with lots of mist. Its not ideal, but in the grand scheme it hasn't bothered me a whole lot.

I am a bit sad concerning the number of events. Its fair to make the comparison to other games in the genre which have certainly been able to stuff their games full of playable content. Which is what the players should be concerned about, the game play. However, as is the style of polyphony, they will try to perfect what they have. That said the premium cars are absolutely stunning. Again people like to whine about this taking away possibly from other aspects of the game they would have preferred, but none of that affects the game play (how those 1000 cars drive) which has been rock solid from the beginning, although this time around a bit short.

In the end GT5 is a wonderful driving sim, and I enjoy it quite a lot, even on a dualshock. I am not entirely pleased with everything, but i certainly like the game and look forward to the next iteration now that all of the grunt work has been accomplished. I can only imagine what they might be able to provide, given the foundation they have built for themselves with Gran Turismo 5.
Blues you have been selected for the ceremonial race and a chance to win a new DFGT wheel your gift car is 430 Scuderia 07

Okay everyone that is the final slot. Make sure you get your gift cars in. The race will be 2 weeks from today on Saturday.

If your gift car is not in by that time you will not be able to participate. It would not be fair for everyone else. Good luck to everyone.
