Hooked up my Driving Force to GT4 PAL on Friday, and up to now have been blissfully unaware of any issues.

However, I've just fitted my car with NOS, and now have quite an annoying problem - I can't assign a button on my wheel for boost!!

Seems my Driving Force wheel (being the "Official GT3 wheel") is NOT fully supported by the GT4 PAL version? There's menu options for the Driving Force PRO and GT Force, but no mention of the standard non-pro Driving Force!

Adjusting the button mappings for the DF Pro has NO effect whatsoever. And the GT Force buttons do not seem to map to my wheel either.

Manual shifting (paddles) work fine, and all other buttons seem to be "hard coded" - even if I change them, they stay the same.

Circle = Hardbrake
Triangle = Reverse
L1 = Rear View
L2, R2, Left Paddle, Right Paddle = Shift
Square + Cross, R2 = unassigned

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the boost/special button mapped?

Thanks!
I believe the GT Force and the Driving Force are the same, aren't they?

Since this is the DF thread, I might as well ask ...

Has anyone had a problem where the steering would just stutter and then go all wacko?

I tried to race on the Nurburgring in my M3 CSL and everytime I would go through a sharp turn, my steering feels light and then all of a sudden my wheel's off-center. This problem became imminent when I tried drifting on Tsukuba in a Supra. When I just start a new session and the computer gives me control of the car, I would always veer to the left or right. I think my wheel is not centered, but it would change sometimes.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I hope I do not have to get another wheel.

Same happens to me but on GT3, since i play GT4 that doesn´t happens.
Try to switch everything before you power on "start" your PS2

There is options for Driving Force (normal) in the menus . I just set mine up after opening it. Got a refurby off EBay for 20 bucks.Works like a champ.

At first I was really not digging it because I can't figure out how to 'calibrate' it.. I dont really see any options for it and maybe I'm not looking in the right place? The wheel goes all left to right when i power up and stops very slightly to the left. If i take my hands off the wheel in a straight it will glide a bit but with both hands on the wheel firm it drives perfectly straight.. not a huge deal but ya know.

Also I would recommend the first thing you do is turn the assists off and set it to simulation. Go figure the most 'difficult' setting works the best. It allows gravity and the car to naturally do its thing and the results are just optimal. Even my non-gamer stepdad agreed when he busted a few laps on the Ring. I've heard a few complaints about the feedback not being enough but wow.. on strong it was a workout for me. Set to mild is plenty. I don't find the wheel 'twitchy' at high speeds as some suggested. I think this complaint was a comparison to the GT3 physics because thats the first thing I noticed when playing GT4 was everything was so much more exageratted. If you think realistically though, even suttle wheel movements at high speed would be greater. I found the turning radius very ample. I could see where 900 degrees would be nice to have, but you will pay for it and in the end I cant see a justification for the extra money. I guess it just matters how 'real' you want the game to be and what your bank looks like. Even F1 cars use a similar radius found on this wheel.

Overall though im very impressed with the wheel. I've never used one till today so I couldnt say its on par with DFP or anything, but a most impressive upgrade with a decent learning curve. I think the people that claim it wasnt better that DS2 just assumed that or expected too much out of the car they were driving. I can see where its not for everyone but with a little patience and taking consideration of the car/drivetrain used ( very nessicary) I'd think anyone serious enough about the game that doesnt have the full 150 or so for DFP will find this wheel great. They are really cheap now if you look in the right place. I found myself actually *wanting* to tune cars because with so much more control now and even when i was using the R stick for throttle/brake there is no comparison in feathering around corners and getting optimal braking. Also you really feel the differences in the transmission relay to the gas pedal much more than just seeing it reflected on the screen. Plus feeling the tires grip with the wheel is just great. I'm actually DRIVING now :)

Who knows I might end up with a DFP soon... but other than the stick shifter, I dont deem it nessicary for my needs.

Oh and GT FORCE and DF are'nt quite the same.. GT force has a much different button layout and the GT icon in the middle. Theres 4 buttons on each side of the wheel on the inside of the grip. DF has the nice DPad and the typical PS button layout on the right side with shoulder triggers. As far as handling I couldnt say..
I actually bid on the GT FORCE model as it was shown in the picture from the site with no lap attachement or anything.. I ended up getting sent a DF with the lap kit and its in A+ condition.. Can't complain :)

Heys, anyone have good ideas where to mount the wheel? It's kinda tricky...actually it's really tricky, i feel like i'm going to have to build something. I don't have my room where i play GT4, so it'd need to be something small. I haven't played GT4 in like a month since I want to play with the wheel and have been too lazy to come up with any ideas.

Well, I must be lucky, but my story is short and simple.

I bought the DF about three/four years ago (that's when I bought the PS2 and GT3) and I drove it intensively, making GT3 to 100% and again (between October '04 and March this year) from scratch to 99% (that's where I was when GT4 became available). Now I got GT4, I'm at 55%, and my DF is - as always - working perfectly.

As someone else said, I strongly recommend it to be set to "simulation".

Hmm.... i've never had problem with my DF accept the power cord suddenly come off while I was driving
anyone tried driving without the force? It feels really weird when you can't feel anything....

how do i use the driving force wheel? just got it 10 min ago! no manual
it starts up with gt4 by focusing and aligning itself. how do i use the damn thing? it wont go thru menus! only options screen is when it actually works

:banghead: :banghead: wrong usb port ! :banghead: :banghead:

I actually prefer the DF (which I have) over the DFP (which my father has). I've logged a fair bit of time on both and 170 degrees is easier in the hairpins and rallies. The DFP does have much a nicer feeling shifter setup on the back of the wheel, however.

well, with the DFP you can use 200 degrees if you want. infact, you can use anywhere from 40° to 900° in PC games. 👍
