I searched for it and i found out no one maked a thread like this , there is one complaining about the position of the cockpit .

anyway , am i the only one having problems driving in a cockpit ( cockpit cars )

i cant drive i dont know why its too hard its like i'm blind , and it get worse when driving in the night .

soo anyone having a problem just like me .

I fine with the majority of cars, especially the small ones like cappuccino but big cars that wallow on poor tires can catch me out. For instance, the top gear David coulthard challenge was impossible for me to put a good time in whilst using the cockpit, switch to the front view and I go about 4 seconds faster on it.

I recently switched from Bumper Cam/ ABS1/ HUD on to Cockpit Cam/ ABS0/HUD off and I lose a lot more races now, but it's also much more fun to play. I guess once you're geting used to it it'll become easier.

its really hard especially with g27 , driving in following cam position is the fastest for me .

Well if one was to have a 3 monitor setup, it would be the identical look you'd get as in a real car.
But if working with a single monitor, no point in handicaping yourself like that; it's like wearing those horse "glasses" with black things on the sides to restrict its view...same thing.

Bumper cam for racing.
Birds eye view for watching the car and nice smoke effects.
Cockpit for the first 30sec when driving a new car.
Hood cam for cars with long hoods (SLR, 599, DB9).

I only really have a problem in the Citroen GT car and the Mustang Trans-Crammer (SEMA jobbie). One has a window the size of a thimble the other has a huge air intake stuck on the bonnet obscuring the view. I can get slightly more out of a car with the bumper view due to being able to see all the apex's but the difference isn't huge

That's because it was designed for hamste...I mean people like Richard Hammo...I mean, it just shows how short our driver is. 👍

Are you sitting far from the screen ie. home theater configuration instead of a racing/driving sim setup? If the answer is yes then that could be the culprit.

If the answer is no- how long have you given yourself to get use the the cockpit view. My advice if you're constantly finding yourself switching back to bumper cam or Darwin-forbid (I'm an atheist so I don't do deity) third person view, is to make every effort to stick to cockpit view even if you find yourself constantly making mistake. Slow down, take more time around corners and drive as you would in real life (of course this would help further if you're using steering wheel/pedal). Like everything else in life, if you work at it and not give up, no longer will it be a problem.

I originally wasn't a fan, but after finally buying a 32' HD TV I'm slowly coming around.

I'd say if you have a TV that is smaller than 32', you won't get full enjoyment out of the cockpit view.

I found it tricky at first but now couldn't go back to bumper cam. The way the track comes at you in cockpit mode is so different it almost seems slower and easier to gauge to me.

I wouldn't say it's difficult but it's certainly not easy.

I use roof cam because I need to see a part of the car when I'm driving, bumper cam doesn't fit my driving style, while cockpit view is too shaky and makes me an headache after a while :)

All you can see is your brake lights in the rearview mirrors lol

Try using the "Narrow" field of view setting from the in-race options with cockpit cam. This helps for me as you get a more "zoomed" view of the track, at the expense of peripheral vision.

It is a compromise I use to get a fair view of the track, whilst still using the cockpit cam.

Bear in mind, your vision is obscured when sat in a real car too, which gives bumper cam an immediate advantage.

Yeeeah but, in a real car I can move my head and see around the A Pillar. In GT5 I can only see forward, back, left and right, no inbetween. Bumper cam for me, until I can afford three Playstations and three TVs and indulge in full immersion ... never gonna happen, but I can dream...

It's almost impossible, if you sit far away from the screen. I have the same problem. I sit about 3 metres away with a 40" TV, which means that with using the cockpit view I would lose about half of my field of vision and I could hardly see what's going on on the track ahead of me. Apart from the fact that the gauges are much worse to use than in bumper cam. You fell like you're sitting in the trunk really.

Also, bumper-cam delivers a POV that's always in the middle, which, although not "real", is nice when every other car is right-hand drive.

I experimented with sitting very close to the TV and I see how it can work for some people, but for me it still for some reason delivers less sense of the car's boundaries than the bumper-cam, which doesn't show you anything of the car. Go figure.

For those that dont know, you can assign buttons to look left and right out the windows. Simply L + R on the D-pad for me.

I dont usually drive with interior view , but ive been trying it out and my laptimes are similiar. In the past I was a lot slower.

Lancia Delta Integrale cockpit is really nice especially at night.

I don't really have a problem driving in cockpit view, unless it's the GT by Citroën  . Im always slower though, usually 1 sec a lap. I think it just takes time to get used to it 👍 .

The Ferrari F2007 or F10 has brake lights??? :odd:

Yes, agree with the A-Pillar comment, hence my suggestion on the feedback for a "look to apex" option, which would eliminate that to some extent.

I was more so referring to the point at which the tyres meet the road: in bumper cam you can see all the way down and hit the apex almost 100%, whereas in cockpit cam you need to judge the distance and apply some spacial awareness.

With the "narrow" FOV, I also like how in most cases the dials sit just above the bottom edge of the screen, which gives a good perspective when sat directly in front of the TV with your wheel, as I do.

As much as I love the cockpit views, its terrible for racing. I use the roof/hood views 95% of time

I've been running my Civic Type R RM in cockpit view with display and racing line off, MT and it's really fun, since I can actually see the dashboard. It's impossible in a lot of cars to actually see what the gauges are doind, since I do like to have a visual reference for gear changes or just to tell what speed I'm doing.

In my case i like driving on dashboard cam in GT5, more immersive!
But i have some trouble with the GT by Citroen, (the road and race car)
The dashboard is too high (or the pilot is seated too low) and i can't see anything if the road going down or after a huge bump.
Vision is essential for efficiency on track.

My second point is that the pilot is too close from the steering wheel, almost his nose in front of the horn! Why can't we adjust only more closer to the wheel and not move back? :ouch:

I find driving cockpit view very easy and almost natural. I have a problem with the bumper cam because there's no sense of orientation of the left and right side of the car. I'm forced to drive bumper cam as most of my favorite cars are standard, but I still make mistakes cutting an apex to deep or clipping the wall on exit...

I find it hard to win in serious races, like most of you guys. I only use cockpit view if I want to have a bit of fun.

I much prefer driving from the cockpit, but am usually faster in bumper-cam. Like others have mentioned, I have a serious problem with how short our driver is. The view I get from any cockpit doesn't match what I would see in that same car in real life, and I really feel that lack of visibility from my virtual eyes being several inches too low. Regardless, I pretty much always drive cockpit mode the cockpit adds so much immersion to the experience. I do have more problems judging where the "sides" of my car are in bumper cam though, so in city-courses I find myself tapping walls more frequently in bumper cam (a problem I always had in GT4 also).

I have no trouble with it, I am just as fast, just as capable using it and find it more enjoyable. Only time I change sometimes online while battling to "bumper" cam for the fixed rear view mirror.

Well being a DS3 player, I don't really see that much of immersion when playing in a cockpit view.

I prefer bumper cam and chase cam anyways. Hood cam for specific cars with a well-placed point of view like the R35 GT500 cars.

I usually race in bumper cam with my DFGT. I like to use cockpit cam for some vehicles, but most of the time it hinders my driving lines. Once I get used to a track and vehicle, then its easier to transition to the cockpit view. It makes it more realistic. I really wish I had a 3 screen setup, then I'd be in cockpit view all the time.

I always use the cockpit view without HUD, except for "competitive" online racing. I wish there would be a option for forcing the cockpit view.

For me some cars are easier to drive in cockpit than others. Maybe it's just my TV setting but the non-convertible cars seem to be a little difficult to drive in cockpit, due to there being significantly less lighting.
