Okay, so my running shoes are about stuffed, so I decided to drag the big blue Super Sube out and buy me some new ones.

They finally put the 'Sold' sticker on the board at the front of the house my partner and I bought, so I had a side mission to take a picture.

So - beautiful day, digital camera, driving over a world famous landmark - what the hell else was going to happen?

This is approaching the city from the Western Distributor - we're going to go left here.

Okay, we're now heading north. The footbridge overhead here leads from the CBD (on the right)into the newish Cockle Bay restaurant precinct of Darling Harbour (on the left).

Okay - we're passing under the second footbridge into Darling Harbour. This is looking right into the CBD - the rail you see is the monorail. Only tourists ride the monorail - it doesn't actually go anywhere useful.

Okay, we're past Darling Harbour and heading uphill - again apologies for the angle. We'll be angling right between the buildings here onto the southern approach to the Harbour Bridge.

Now we approach the toll gates. The toll only applies if you're heading south, and it's $3. They play the old 'variable' lane thing here, so when I drive north against traffic during the week, I've got to keep an eye on what the lanes are doing (there are signs overhead).

I have a little electronic thing on my windscreen that means I don't have to stop to pay the toll. Much better than sitting behind grandma as she tries to put 30 10c pieces in the toll basket...

About time that Civic moved over (I'm sitting on cruise control at the speed limit in case you were wondering). Are those CR-X alloys I see there?

The buildings you can see are North Sydney, on the other side of the Harbour.

This is the view east - this building is on the other side of Circular Quay to the Opera House, which I think is behind the building (I think that's an apartment building, from memory). You can see the eastern suburbs, some of Sydney's priciest real estate, in the distance to the right of the building.

Okay - the southern approach - that's the train line to the left.

These are the overhead lane indicators I was talking about earlier.

Thanks for the tour vat_man! I never quite imagined Sydney to look so antique-ish. :)

This is a great view!

Pleasure, man - when they do new buildings now, if the facia is of any heritage value the council forces them to keep it.

There's a fair bit of sandstone about the place, too, which probably contributes to the look.
