so i imagine a enzo will do around the 6:30 mark.

No, the Enzo is too flat for the track. The german car magazine Auto, Motor and Sport put Walther Röhrl in an Enzo, a Carrera GT and a Lamborghini Gallardo to drive them around the track. At several points of the track the front part of the Enzo touched the surface even at medium speeds. They stopped the test because they did not want damage the car.

TBH - there are 2 versions of the track, one slightly longer than the other. the other thing is 40 seconds is a massive amount to take off around that track ........

And a Porsche GT3 can do a 7:44 around the ring and i know a GT3 RS will do 7:30 so i imagine a enzo will do around the 6:30 mark.

Bikes are slower than cars around the ring though !

I think 6:30 in a Enzo is wishful thinking. Especially if 40 seconds is a "massive amount".

If you look at the fastest times around the 'ring, you get to a point where a cars top speed no longer becomes a major factor. It's more about how a car handles, and grips the road. All of today's "Hypercars" are able to accelerate and brake very quickly, so they get to a point where top speed doesn't make much of a difference.

I agree with you about bikes. They just don't have the cornering speed. After all, they only have two wheels to grip the road with.

Cheers

I can't understand what you are talking about...6'30"???
The Enzo if it wouldn't have problem touching the surface i think it could go for a 7'25", it's already 10 seconds faster than a Carrera GT.
Can't wait to see how fast the new Radical V8 will be.

This a nice lap with Derek Bell in an Porsche 962 on the Nürburgring. 👍
6'41 min for 20,8 km. Length 7min / 16,2 Mb zip file.

It's not a qualify, looks more like warm up??
Jackie Stewart overtakes easily somewhere between "Aremberg" and "Bergwerk".

With sound and comment by D. Bell himself.

:)
Just something to that Enzo-stuff said above.
The time of the Porsche GT might be possible, which is actually a 7'32, ......but not to much faster.

To do sub 7'xxmin times you simply need cars with special tyres, more (huge :scared: ) groundeffect and they must be much lighter. Enzo and GT are about 1300-1400Kg. The 962 is a little more then 800Kg.

That makes the difference to real race cars. IMO :sly:

I think he did very well to get a diesel Jaguar round in under 10 minutes. Diesel cars do not lend themselves to being driven fast, especially when being driven around a race track.

I asure you that it it not fast, especiGolf TDI with the straightaway slow and we came back to portugal with the car, and we are no race drivers, kinda slow even :guilty:

Watana, Derek Bell is not giving it 100% in that video because he wouldn't be passed that easily by Jackie Stewart, he's just showing the lines.

Relative to cars hitting the floor, I've seen the Aston V8 testing and it hit the floor at least in Fuchsröhre, and if you see the tar in there, it's almost gone, some parts show the cement already and there are lots of marks of metal scrapping in it. I've got a picture of that somewhere...

Do you have proof of thoes Porsche time, and that the cars were stock going round, the GT3 RS is not nearly as fast as the Carrera GT let alone faster which 7:30 would make it, and the official time for the GT3 last time I checked was 7:57, the same as the NSX-R, I don't believe ANY stock 911 could get around in 7:30 or near to that time. And I highly doubt the Enzo will crack 7 mins, it might crack 7:30 just but it won't come close to 7 mins.

I found the article about the comparison I mentioned above. It´s in german tough:

http://www.auto-motor-sport.de/d/141/d_ams_tests_herst_vtests (deep link not allowed...)

It´s a shorter version of the article in the magazine. The comparison between the three cars on the Nordschleife was also featured on TV.

As I said, the Enzo is not a proper car for a bumby track like the Nordschleife:

Der Stoßfänger setzt bereits bei mittlerem Tempo auf. Da hilft auch ein Niveaulift an der Vorderachse wenig, der mehr als Parkhilfe gedacht ist.

I will translate:
The bumper hits the ground already at average speed. Even lifting the front suspension (originally meant as a parking help) did not help.

Ferrari Enzo Ferrari: zu schnell für die Nordschleife

Ferrari Enzo Ferrari: too fast for the Nordschleife :-)

It's not too fast, just a combination of too low and too soft for the track, if it could have it's suspension stiffened enough then it should make it round without smashing the nose ono the track, however altering the setup like that would change the cars performance and I think stop the time being classified as a stock time.

A good way of "testing" the Enzo in GT4 would be to find a car that's as close as possible to the Enzo in terms of horsepower, acceleration, power-to-weight, handling, etc. In other words, a car that can get around the same lap times somewhere else. Going back to Top Gear, there are two GT4 cars in the top five of their lap-time board: The McMerc SLR and Ford GT. While the Enzo is a little faster than those two, it would probably give us a good idea of what time you could get, assuming the Enzo was in the game and that it could make it around the track.

street tires in GT4 are for economy cars.....

most cars come with Sport tires stock, even in real life. no one in the right mind would be using some economic tires on a SLR

That's not the way GT works apparantly, street tyres are full sim mode (sports tyres are a cross between reality and arcade mode) and allow you to see how the car handles etc close to reality - you need to rerun the lap using street tyres to get the real picture Hyde.

And yes, bikes are generally faster.. there's a vid out there taken from the Ring Taxi, and only one thing passed them the entire lap.. Jørund Seim on a bike. On one wheel. I wouldn't mind seeing the Atom take on the 'Ring, though.. hehe.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jørund once.. One of the nicest blokes I should add. And I've had many conversations with him in a danish MC newsgroup. He was ALWAYS a safety first guy, which makes it so much more unfair....

That's a nice video with Bell driving. Thanks for the link, Watana. Too bad the light washes out the track details so often, but hey that's the early 80s for you.

HERE is a cool in-car vid of Sabine taking some lucky passengers for a ride in the Ring Taxi, which at the time was an E39 BMW M5. The video is nice and clear and she drives a smooth, perfect line. Unfortunately, the camera falls off the mount shortly before Brunnchen, so it's not a complete lap. But you do see some pretty amusing antics and artful shots of the sky, Sabine and dash closeups.

Bell´s Lap Time was 6:41 because of the Camera in his car. In the early 80´s this cameras weight about 50 kg.

The fastest Lap Time is 6:11 driven from Stefan Bellof in1983 in the Qualifying with a Porsche 956 (Bell´s Car is a 956 too). The 956 has about the same amount of HP as an Enzo but weighs only about 800kg. So DREAM on, that an Enzo can do a Lap in 6:30.

I think the Enzo maybe is 2 - 3 seconds faster then the Carrera GT.

See ya

Yeah, I know. It wasn't even remotely any fault of his, what happened.. he slipped on some oil dropped by another car just minutes before.

I'm curious to see how accurate the track markings are... The Ringers marked the track for him, It'd be neat if his mark is in the game.
