I just purchased SBC DSL, and I need a Ethernet Adapter card for this. However, my Dell PC has a plugin for an Ethernet cable, but the Installation CD doesn't recognize it. Is this because this plugin in isn't an adapter?
Ehh? Don't use the CD for setting up your DSL. do this instead:
control panel > network connections
Make sure you see your ethernet card there. it'll show up as Local Area Connection and the icon will have an x through it
if the card shows up then do this:
create new connection (it's on the side thing)
then use the wizard.
Connect to internet > set up manually > connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password > fill in the information
___
If you don't see a card there, check your computer's installation cd. There might be drivers for it. If not, your ethernet card may be dead 👎
After searching for a while I found the Dellresource CD for my computer and installed drivers for anything that might have to do with the ethernet card. The card still isn't showing up under control panel> network connections, and I cant seem to install in under add new hardware. Is there another Cd it could possibly on? The weird thing is that the place where you plug in the ethernet card seems to be combined with several USB ports, so I have no idea what ti would be called.
Your computer may not recognize the port until you plug a network cable into it. When you go into the network settings in control panel does the network port show up. I wouldn't use the DSL cd either. I got a CD with our connection and it messes things up more than it helps. You should be able to have an ethernet cable - RJ45 cable, go from your DSL modem to the network port on your computer. Also, make sure your network port isn't disabled.
Finally got it to work. I had to go into the BIOS, and somehow the network card had been switched to "off." From there it was simple to install the drivers and now there is an ethernet connection. Now all I have to wait for is the service to be activated.
