Wonder if anyone used the left anolog stick for throttle, break, and steering with the clicking for e-brake.
If so, they deserve a medal.
Sorry to be pedantic, but you can't assign anything to the left stick's up and down if it's used for steering, I wanted to use up to toggle ghost cars and down to do the wipers (though I don't exactly miss either of these controls), but you can't.
I too use the triggers for the pedals and the right stick, down for up shifts and up for down, like a sequential manual. Confuses other people, though!
I remember the old PS2 days, a few games made use of the analogue button pressure thing and it got pretty annoying, best examples I can think of are GT4 and Metal Gear Solid 2, possibly 3, where the fire button would aim your gun and releasing it would fire, but if you change your mind you could release the button slowly and you wouldn't fire the gun; of course, in a stealth action game it was important at times to not make a sound, but it was so sensitive it was just easier to put your gun away.
I did get pretty good at throttle control with X on GT4 in the end, though.
edit: While I understand why PD were reluctant to move away from the old button layout (most old franchises do stick to the same controls where possible), it makes absolutely no sense to do so with GT5. I mean, the default layout has X and square, buttons with very little in the way of control over the range of analogue inputs, controlling two of the three sensitive inputs involved in driving a car (the third being steering), and then they have what is a digital action in a car mapped to the two buttons with the best controllability over the analogue range... Makes no sense, but at least they've designed it so you can set it up exactly how you like.
