has anyone played the demo yet? I pre-ordered DNF and got into the "first access club", or whatever, and played the demo. not gonna lie, the demo is pretty ok, but it seems really entertaining. it's a bit tough at times, but I'm really curious to see more. there's some ridiculous humor that's just hinted at in the demo. the weapons are damn cool, and the lines are ridiculous. can't wait for the online multiplayer...I think this game is gonna be titty city...literal and metaphorical.

Enjoyed it in my younger days. Seemed a bit more risqué then too.

I've probably outgrown old Duke. Shame really.

Which system? I've had the Balls of Steel Edition pre-ordered for a while on the PS3 but I don't remember getting access to a demo.

all three systems. Gamestop should provide you with a code, and you go here to enter the code. follow directions after to get access to the demo.

a metaphorical tit...when something is good, I say "oh, that's tits!" or "that's titty city". but there's literal tits in this game...so, I say literal and metaphorical tits...

Can't believe this doggone game is going to be released even after all the years of development. Hell, I still remember downloading a level for Duke Nukem Atomic that was somewhat supposed to be a hint of a level for Duke Nukem Forever. It's been since... what, 1997 we've been introduced to DNF? I can still remember in high school (as a Freshman) the buzz surrounding Duke Nukem Forever.

All I can say is that Duke Nukem still has it after all these years. I've NEVER played any Duke between DN3D Atomic and DNF, but Duke's humor is still incredible. This is going to be an awesome title. That trailer from earlier this year or last year assures that Duke Nukem didn't just die and rot since DN3D Atomic; he's back and better than ever. My only question is... for those who waited so long for this game to finally be released after all this time, will it be a win or a fail? We'll see in due time.

Honestly playing it; it doesn't feel like duke nukem at all anymore. No more kicking? melee attacks?

it's just a up date fps using dukes name; nothing more.

The first Duke Nukem Forever critic reviews are in.

All I can say is: "Ouch."

After 15 years of development, and the first reviews turn out to be less than stellar at best.

I was never going to buy/rent the game in the first place, but still--for a game that has become so viral over the years--this is some pretty big news

Not surprising. Even overcoming that development timeline, the game was more than likely never going to win any reviews. It's humor is probably the only thing going for it judging by the the reviews.

Honestly, I didn't expect the game to get good reviews. Much like GT5 (in fact, even moreso than GT5) the game has built up so much hype over the years that there was no way it could deliver on it. People seem to think that Gearbox has been working on it for that long, which is obviously untrue.

Having only played the demo myself (I have the Balls of Steel Edition on pre-order,it isn't out in the USA yet) I really enjoy the game. It has the goofy and lewd Duke Nukem humor in it and feels like an FPS from the 90's. For some (probably most) people that is a bad thing, but I love it so far and don't foresee my opinion changing when it is released over here.

Quoting from the Joystiq review:

"There are problems with laggy aiming, dumb-as-doornails enemies, weak level design and even weaker presentation."

"Every time I died there was between 30 and 45 long seconds of loading [...]"

"The whole thing is lousy with screen tearing and what can only be unintentional slowdown. NPCs even lack shadows. Things get worse in multiplayer, which almost looks like it runs on an even more basic engine than the single-player campaign [...]"

"[Multiplayer is] also about as lag-filled as they come, too, with all but the widest-spraying weapons rendered useless as clunky Dukes judder around the wholly unimpressive multiplayer maps."

So apparently, this game is still unfinished.

From what they showed during the e3 segment i seen on the internet this game looks pretty pathetic. Didnt even look like it was worth renting, never mind wasting 60 bucks on buying it.

Seems like it you buy it, buy the PC version. both the console versions got mixed reviews with the 360 version getting the worst reviews.

Got it - played it - it crashed - it crashed - it tore - it crashed - return to store. Only the 2nd game I've ever returned in my life.

The most I might do is watch PCGamer999's Manthrough of it...I'm not interested at all in all the sex and gore...even then I might not watch Owen's series...there you go Owen, your advertisement for the year is done, I'll expect to see a cheque in my mailbox a week from now :p

Well well well,...

played it through the weekend.

Need to say the critics and bad reviews are worse than the game. If I would listen to review scores i wouldn't have played the excellent Mafia series.
Now On DNF.
Well obviously it ain't pretty graphical wise, it ain't no Crysis. But we all expected that from a game with an engine as old as some gamers.

The fun is still there, strafing and firing all you got, glitching bosses and searching secrets.
The shrink levels were fun.
The shotgun is awesome as ever.

Now for a total Die hard DN fan, it is totally worth playing it. just the price tagis a bit harsh for a game of this caliber.
They would have aimed for a price tag at 35€/Usd, it would sell like hot cakes.

For those who are not of the DN generation they probably can't relate to this game.
No cover system, no iron aim,...

I loved the game (it's rare that i play a game to the end, but DNF i did), but it is definetly not worth 50 bucks.

I missed some other things too: not able to carry a lorry full of weapons, the end screen of a mission, the secret places (repalced with hidden interactions ),....

All in all, i would give it a 6/10.

If you like the Duke, at least rent it.
And try the PC version, you don't need a fast one to play it

From what I've seen of it (some play at a friends house and also online videos) I don't think its as bad as some people and reviewers have made it out to be.

People forget that this game isn't really a current generation developed game, its a mish mash of stuff over the years pieced together which is why some of the gameplay and graphics may seem slightly dated. To me it looks and plays like a PS2 game (the generation it should have belonged to) which has been remastered for PS3.

Gearbox did not develop this game, they hardly did anything new in it, just put all the stuff 3D realms had done together, polished it up and shipped it out. If they ever did a sequel to this then it would be an entirely new game from the ground up and would probably be much more current. I would like to see a 'real' next gen duke game.

I also like the fact its apparently has a long single player campaign (coming from the era when dev's didn't stick it in as a side thing to multiplayer!). I would say worth a rental but don't get the 360 version, its broken to hell!

Robin.
