Dynamic weather and track conditions?

I think the chances are fairly good. Surprised nobody noticed that in the E3 trailer, when they first briefly show Tuscany from 00:04 to 00:06, you see the shadows of the clouds moving on the ground.

Now, I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that clouds move across the sky a bit faster than the sun, so the moving shadows wouldn't be due to the day/night cycle. A hint that we're getting dynamic weather perhaps?

I'm sure we will. PD, I think built a pretty godly particle system and adding weather shouldn't be much of an impact on the engine. I think day/night is a much bigger load on the CPU/GPU than weather would be. Just my 2 cents :)

Well I think that we could! We just got a hint! (i think!). In the GT5 E3 trailer the black dots that pop up at the five (in the begging of the video) it could be a hint of rain!

I would like for the answer to be "yes." However, we just don't really know yet. Only sign of any possible weather are some of the dark clouds in a few shots of the Nürburgring from E3 trailers. Moving clouds were a noticeable feature. Maybe storm clouds and wet conditions will follow. I just don't know. If PD can work something to make this deal happen, we'll no doubt see these conditions implemented. Until then, we'll have to wait until future game shows and future trailers.

The only GT-style game I've played with a wet track and a full grid of cars was Enthusia Professional Racing at Tsukuba (day and/or night under wet conditions). Sixteen cars on a wet track would be a great challenge for GT5 and PD. Even less likely would be dynamic weather. Even less likely than that is dynamic weather that affects different parts of the track. Remember Le Mans 2008 when one of the Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs was on slick tires trying to pilot the car on rainy roads?

We can only hope. But as of right now, we may not get any weather. Snow, maybe, but I don't know about rain. Oh, so I don't forget- very hot, very cold, fog, mist, and even dust devils and dust storms are also weather factors. While we don't think about them or regard them much, they still count as weather conditions. Most people just regard rain and snow as rain and ONLY those two weather conditions.

There's at least two threads on this already.

I'd mentoined it in the E3 thread I think it was. I think the black dots at the start of the E3 trailer was sort of meant to be a hint at rain.

I don't think so. Maybe a couple of wet tracks.

It's definitely been developed, and I wander if it will be included later on in a patch. But Kaz seems apprehensive ATM.

Go arrest him then Mr Forum Police.

On topic, dynamic weather would be amazing really, especially on a long endurance race, although I think it is highly unlikely. The risk is like mentioned above, too many variable factors in a race could mean less cars, let's not forget about the racing here!

I don't think we will see rain. They have day/night cycle so we can have varying conditions like morning, afternoon, evening, night I think ...

If they include overcast condition with damp, wet track. It will be great

Apparently we are... weather+track editor :)

What can we look forward to when Gran Turismo 5 releases on PlayStation 3?
Gran Turismo 5 will offer gamers an experience more rich, more in-depth and more exciting than they might expect - even from a series as closely identified with innovation and invention as Gran Turismo. Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhacing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather.

These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.

This time around Gran Turismo is likely not just to be the definitive driving experience but a definitive gaming experience full stop.

Talking games with Shuhei Yoshida

Credits goes to SSX on GAF :P

He was however 100% correct.

We do not need endless duplicate threads, so if one already exists then it should be used.

We need your kind of attitude even less, reel it in or face the consequences.

Scaff

It was noticed a while ago, we even have a nice gif. :)

I hope this Yoshida knew what he was talking about!!! Big reveals!
Track editor, weather and... kart races... stunt arenas???
Are we sure that this man really knows something about GT? :)

I think he does as when they ask about sequals the first game he mentions is Gran Turismo 5 which is unsual as sony usually never mention GT5 or they list LBP2, Killzone etc etc in front of it, so I would say he likes GT5.

And this goes in line with Chris's 'best feature undisclosed' statement.

I just noticed those moving clouds in the background (Post #142)! Like I was telling one of my friends in a chat, we sometimes don't know WHY we have certain tracks showcasing certain features. Think of the glossy roads of Special Stage Route 5 Wet in GT3. Having something like those moving clouds shows two things to me- PD finally being able to make a competitive and detailed game, and also taking advantage of certain hardware to make it all happen. It seems like the PS3 and some inventive thinking by PD is finally starting to make these things possible. These touches we're seeing for GT5 definitely wouldn't be possible on the PS1 or PS2. Maybe PD is finally making good of a great system for which to showcase these touches and then some.

GT5 is looking great.

Didn't they say that only a handful of tracks will get dynamic weather effects?
I dont know why they cant do it to all tracks!

i hope this.. no problem if it is only in few tracks (we will wait DLC for others),
but dynamic weather during race change radically game experience,
change tire and drive while track drying or is going wet it's very exciting,
involving

are 'wet" tires confirmed? if its like GT4 where you have to drive on slicks and it just feels like sliding around no matter how well you drive, then it's still lame.

What I would find interesting is in Nordschliefe if it was raining on one part of the track and the rest was dry. It would make things interesting.
