That's a lot of drugs.

Going to keep avoiding Superchargers, if I can help it. That’s the only positive thing about Tesla right now.
Luckily, charging at work or home covers 99% of my needs. Otherwise, I’ll just stick with EVGo, EA, or Rivian.

Also, Musk says this:

“I believe half of the population of the US will be covered by Tesla’s Robotaxi by the end of the year.”

I guess only if he means this literally and his car will go rouge and start running people over, then maybe.

Yet another proof that billionaires are the problem, not some poor migrant praying they don't get arrested while picking fruit or doing landscaping for below minimum wage.

Musk, Trump, others all are where they are because:
"When you’re a star billionaire, they let you do it. You can do anything."

Tesla Grants Musk $29 Billion in Stock to ‘Keep Elon’s Energies Focused’

"Mr. Musk explained why he thinks he is entitled to more shares when he spoke to analysts last month. “I think my control over Tesla should be enough to ensure that it goes in a good direction, but not so much control that I can’t be thrown out if I go crazy,” he said."

Some would say that that ship has sailed already.

Musk has the TSLA board totally over a barrel. More than a decade of his BS about autonomous driving arriving Next Year™ has inflated the stock price to 20x what it should be based on number of cars sold. If Musk leaves, that bubble bursts, and board members lose beaucoup bucks, not to mention other investors.

Since the stock price is now totally disconnected from the reality of car sales numbers, it's a small price to pay to keep $TSLA up by having Musk around to repeat the Next Year™ lie and throw in some humanoid robot BS as well.

In fact, the $29 billion in stock is not tied to sales, profitability or any metrics whatsoever, it only requires him to hang around in a "senior leadership role". And then only for 2 years. No doubt in 2 years time, he'll be back with another extortion demand.

Back to the recent case where Tesla was found 33% liable for a fatal accident involving so-called Autopilot, and has to pay up to $243 million.

I was under the impression that the key persuasive factor in the jury's decision was that the driver felt that Autopilot would "keep him out of trouble" if he made a mistake. That's not the end of it.

Years of forensic work and battling Tesla's obstruction revealed that the Autopilot software knew it was in a “restricted Autosteer zone”, yet despite this, the system allowed Autopilot to remain engaged at full speed.

Furthermore, "Within about three minutes of the crash, the Model S uploaded a “collision snapshot”—video, CAN‑bus streams, EDR data, etc.—to Tesla’s servers, the “Mothership”, and received an acknowledgement. The vehicle then deleted its local copy, resulting in Tesla being the only entity having access."

It seems that the software is designed to ensure that Tesla owners won't have access to the crash data recorded by the vehicle.

And there's a whole lot more in this well-researched piece:-

Lest you think that Electrek only posts negative stuff about Tesla, or is overly down on Elon for what Elon calls "optimism", here's a story from the 2017 archives...
Wasn't it shown that it didn't actually break the 2 second mark for 0-60?

On the drag-strip, they use a sticky glue on track and on tires to increase friction and grip, resulting in better performance than you'd ever get on normal roads with normal tires, and timing is done with a laser that goes across the starting line. When the car roles forward to a point where the tires obstruct the laser, the cars are considered to be on their mark. Once the cars accelerate and the wheels stop obstructing the laser, the timer starts. Manufacturer's "abuse" this technique by making sure that it's the very leading edge of the front tires blocking the laser, so when they accelerate the entirety of the tire has to pass the laser before the timer starts, giving them on average an extra foot of travel/acceleration before the timer starts.

Engineering Explained did a video on this, working out the math to explain that if you include the extra foot in the time, it'd be closer to 2.3 seconds, and if it was on regular tires on regular roads, it'd be a lot closer (if not more than) 3 seconds. Still very quick, but not what Musk (and to be fair a lot of other manufacturers) claim to be true (as they intentionally remove or hide certain details).

It is yet to be put into production, so it was all hype. But back then, Electrek believed the hype.

I guess Musk is really getting desperate. Just saw Tesla ads on YouTube on back to back days. First ever I’ve seen their commercials. I thought free speech guy didn’t do commercials? Combined with deep discounts they’ve been pushing lately, the news and data must be true. Wall Street doesn’t care though, that stock is so disconnected from reality it’s just nuts.

Well, a Tesla dealer just opened by me. Used to be a Subaru dealership when I worked there about 14 years ago. Anyway, sales are down in Australia. So, it’ll be interesting to see how long the dealership lasts.
