My hotmail email just went through and typically it was expired!!Another wait, this time not for 3 days, let's hope so...

It's 38 hours ( just did the maths ) for me now with no Email.

So have I read right that people MONSTAR-1 and canderson19 have phoned Sony and got no-where??

If anyone has found another way please let us know. canderson19's post that it could take up to 14 days is not good news.

Yeah i phoned them twice and got no where. They said all i can do is wait. Plain and simple lol.

I just tried to sign in again and got them to resend me my an email. So ill be waiting for that. Its been 48+ hours since my 1st try.

Good news to read what One_Macca said. So im hoping i get an email tonight some time. But for some reason im not expecting it to come. Knowing my luck ill be the very last person to get an email! lol

Wow just got my email lol

Try signing back in and get them to send the email. Mine came through in a bout 5 mins. Good luck guys. I know how you feel.

My email come 20 hours later, now everything its ok, thank God!!!

Note: if you pick up a new console (due to YLOD or something) during the outage and you have a backup of you save game, you gonna have to make again ALL thumbnails for the garage, at least that was my case.

Yeah I just got my original Email, close to 48 hours late . . . and expired long ago.

But from what you guys have said above, I'm going to try again and by the sound of it, I should be able to get my new one faster.

Fingers crossed.

I did my main account yesterday and this morning I checked my alternate account and I had the email in the inbox but it had expired.
So I sent for another and it came straight away so both mine are up and running now.👍

I just posted about this in the 'PSN outage' thread.

I've got a new Email now . . . but all the Sony site give me is the message shown above.

It's now 2.5 hours.

Also posted on the PSN outage thread.

Everybody's just gonna love this new development. So apparently this is why the password reset via email is not working.

Sony's PSN password page exploit
by Wesley Yin-Poole
www.eurogamer.net

Eurogamer has seen video evidence that verifies reports that Sony's PlayStation Network password reset system suffers from an exploit that allows attackers to change your password using only your PSN account email and your date of birth – information compromised in the PSN hack of 20th April.

Sony today made PSN sign-in unavailable for a number of its websites, including PlayStation.com and the PlayStation forums. All PlayStation game titles are also unavailable.

Crucially, the website users are directed to by password reset emails is now down.

"Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password via Playstation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being," Sony said. "This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take.

"In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information."

Sony later tweeted: "Clarification: this maintenance doesn't affect PSN on consoles, only the website you click through to from the password change email."

The exploit was first revealed on Nyleveia.com.

"I would suggest that you secure your accounts now by creating a completely new email that you will not use ANYWHERE ELSE, and switching your PSN account to use this new email," recommends the site.

"You risk having your account stolen, when this hack becomes more public, if you do not make sure that your PSN account's email is one that cannot be affiliated with or otherwise traced to you."

NeoGAF users have also corroborated the claim.

Nyleveia claims to have contacted Sony about the exploit. "The system went down approximately 15 minutes after I received a response from SCEE on the matter."

Sony has taken the page in question down, and with any luck is fixing the exploit.

Eurogamer has contacted Sony for comment.

So now Sony reports the "email exploit" is fixurd:

Update on PSN Password Reset Process

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.

Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.
