stop complaning how a standard car looks already people have heard enough we all know standard cars look like crap get over it already. is this better grammer for you

As the title suggests, this thread is specifically for the discussion of the low resolution of the standard cars (at least some of them), so yes, people have a legitimate right to talk about it in here. Thank you.

The Forza iteration looks very poor in comparison.
Many Standard Cars look better than those, let alone premium.
Both of these pictures are direct from Turn 10 and Polyphony Digital.

Indeed, although that is different from the low resolution problem, you're right.

Just saw here the trailer of the new Shift limited edition

http://www.planete-gt.com/2011/01/22/shift-2-unleashed-trailer-de-ledition-limitee/

Like in Shift 1, Cars look good, nice tracks (recognized the Francorchamps raidillon). But the big problem of shift 1 was: cars don't drive convincingly.

Personnally, I prefer some "ugly" cars which drive fine above "beautiful" cars which don't.

In the best of all worlds, you would have the graphics of shift with their nice tracks and game content combined with the car behaviour of GT5.

One remark: the interiors of shift 1 were not very good, but who cares? When I drive, I don't look at the car interior. On the other had, I found the inside views of both FM3 and Shift1 more "driveable" then those of GT5

Graphics only discussion, please. There are already GT5 versus Forza and Shift threads.

Alfa 155

The model itself is reasonable, but the textures are horribly dithered! I jumped at it when it appeared in the OCD the other day, it's disapointing after seeing and hearing them in person at Goodwood FoS last year. I would love to see some of these older DTM cars in premium form.

The Dome is a terrible car. Looks like something from the ps1 era.

Couldn't Kaz have outsourced some re-texturing work if they were snowed under with the main game? If any of this PS3 hacking ever busts games open to the core I'd like to see the fans go to work retexturing some of lower res models.

The Forza cars are approximations, and also abominations, missing aero parts, wrong measurements, details lacking in many places made up for by too much detail in other places.

Take for example the rear of the cars. On the GTR's in Forza you can see that the lights are just a spline rotated model textured. On GT5 you can see each individual LED light casing.

this is because the FM3 picture is taken from further away than the GT5 shot and the cars are out of the sun. the pieces you can't see are hidden by shadow (and the LEDs are modeled, you just can't see them from that distance).

the premiums do look better than FM3's cars. a lot better. it is, however. completely indisputable that FM3's cars look FAR better than the standards. the door handles, grills, headlights, brake lights, and reverse lights are all modeled, not textured, and that's not even mentioning the massive poly advantage the FM3 cars have over the standards, the FM3 cars all having interiors or the FM3 cars having damage.

I simply cannot understand how people think FM3 looks bad. yes, it's not perfect like GT5's premiums are, but when somebody compares them to the standards, they are insulting their own intelligence.

Look at the legacy standards, they have some really nasty textures, especially the front quarter panels. Probably the worst standard I've seen yet.

At the expense of 60 frames a second.:grumpy:

I saw a Focus ST170 '03 in the UCD today, and as it's spinning, several polygons can be seen sticking out of each of the fender flares. :yuck:

Then I picked up the RX-8 concept II, and I think just about every line on the thing is a jagged mess.

Wait, is the RX-8 concept II the yellow one or red one?

Has anybody picked up the '64 Tempest GTO? It's an alright car, it has it's bits. Like the pixelated mess below the bumper for some reason, and the really low quality textures on the back, but for the most part it was probably one of the most FUN cars I've ever driven. Regardless of how mediocre it looks, it's still a definite buy.

The yellow one. I haven't seen the red one yet.

I used to own one of these, and won one in the same color as the one I had. I was a little disappointed in the way it looked, but from the bumper view, it still gives me the same smile my old beater did. 👍

I love my standards. I have nearly 200 Standards and only a dozen Premiums. Premiums bought for Seasonals, only. Standards? I buy them just to play with them.

Anyone who hasn't bought a Yellowbird, an Alpine or even a Suzuki Alto Works in this game is really missing out on a lot of variety. (mind you, the pixellation on the Alto's fender flares is so bad you could cut a tire on it...)

I didn't think people would even bother to compare Shift to GT5 and Forza :boggled:

We can and do. There are a few interesting topics regarding SHIFT in the appropriate sections, including comparisons to GT5 and GT5Prologue.

While I think its admirable that many standards are fun to drive its really nothing to do with how they look... its kind of like talking about ugly girls and someone brings up how nice she is... That's great, but she is still ugly :)

And it isn't what is on the inside that counts, because her interior isn't modeled.

I completely agree with that niky.

a POS... nothing short of it, by far may be worst modelled car in game!

Still strange that PD decided to implement those standard cars in GT5. It still does not feel right... How would it be if Hideo Kojima would implement low-res PS2 enemies in MGS... Or Kratos in PS2 graphics on the PS3 (I don´t mean the GOW I&II remakes)...

Or EA would bring out an new NFS underground with the same car-models as in 2003 (holy **** its been 8 years, it´s like I played it yesterday)

It´s not about "if you dont like them, don´t play with them"... Hard to describe but it´s not ok to implement an PS2 game in an PS3 game...

300 premiums in FM3 graphics would be better...

The New Beetle RSI, I came across it one race, and I just kept looking at it, not realising I was losing the race...

The Lancia Stratos in turquoise looks really bad :grumpy: especially if used on a rally stage

Not sure if it's been mentioned (and I own both GT5 and FM3 and am no fanboy of either) but FM3 has some really badly modelled cars too. Some from FM2 some even from FM, the AM Vanquish has got to be the worst, but if you have it look at the differences between the Audi R8 4.2 and R8 5.2 V10 the 4.2 is terrible

... at least GT5's Ferrari's are all extremely well modelled and even the standard Lambo's look good enough (not seen the JGTC one is UCD so don;t judge me on that)

I don't mind the models that much. Sure, I notice the lack of polygons - but what really breaks some cars for me is the blurry textures (e.g. on decals).

Even without spending any time upgrading the models themselves, the quality could have been improved so much if PD would have simple doubled the resolution of the textures...

Just received the Honda Mobil 1 NSX - Been waiting ages for one, then once a looked at it i was shocked at how poor it looks! Also the gran turismo Skyline R34, very pixelated.

One thing I just noticed: when you last saved the game using a standard car and you load it up again, the main menu may welcome you with the car standing in one of those photomode environments. The camera will slowly move around the car to show you some details, and this will obviously bring out the worst in standard cars.

I don't have a problem with that as such because I know the standards can look shabby. But I ask myself why they disabled being able to take snaps of standard cars in photomode locations if they dare to show them up close in the main menu? I mean they would either generally disable being able to get too close to standard cars to hide the optical shortcomings, or they would leave the decision of what to see and what not to see entirely to us. I think this was another oversight in the game's design.

A solution would have been simple: if the game was left in a standard car, use an animation which doesn't show the car next time the game is loaded. Like the engine animation, which is very cool by the way.
