Embarrasingly low res cars!

It's funny you mention this car. Because I had one. And if you hadn't noticed, at the beginning of the race there's 3 cool, timely camera shots that get right close to your car. And I was like ''are you joking me?" paused the game, turned to my dad and said they ported this damn car right out of GT4. It looks like a horses ass and that's being polite about it.

When you drive it, yes. When it's driven by the AI you won't notice a thing. I've yet to see a standard model that catches my attention by being of noticably low quality when driven by the AI and it's pretty safe to say I've seen most of them at this point.

Speaking of dads actually. I had mine on a visit earlier this week and I showed him a couple of replays. First a X1 Vettel Edition, then a race modified Corvette ZR1, then a Spirra and finally a BTR. When the last one came to an end I said to him "You probably noticed the lower quality of those last two cars?" and got a "Huh?" in reply. I told him that they were of lower 3D quality with lower resolution textures ported from the previous game. The reply? "I didn't notice a thing. They looked fully OK to me." My mom said the same thing when I showed a standard model (my own car in game at that) to her for the first time.

Actually these cases make me wonder if many people really see the low quality or will they just "see" it knowing the car is a standard. Admittedly some are bad but the vast majority really aren't.

My mom hasn't been able to tell the difference between a PS2 game and PS3 game yet (bet she wouldn't even be able to tell between a PS1 game actually) and can't even understand why anyone cares about HDTV because "it doesn't look any differnt to me".

The point being there are plenty of people who won't be able to tell the difference not because it's inconsequential, but because it's not what they are into and thus notice.

I cannot tell the difference between a 192kbps mp3 and a 96kbps mp3, I can't tell the difference between Kosher hot dogs and normal dogs... doesn't mean they aren't there and in no way disporves those who can tell the difference.

HPA Motorsports Stage II R32...

I just won it and it looks as bad as the car shown earlier; perhaps even worse...

I just bought 2 cheap racecars, a Nissan Silvia that is grey+a GT crested S2000 from the UCD, both are terrible.

My TVR Tuscan though? So crisp it more then makes up for it.

I still want a '76 VW GTI for sentimental reasons, haven't seen it in the UCD, and I hope that does not suck.

I thought the '76 GTI wasn't the best-modelled car even in GT4, the front end looked a little cardboard-esque. Shame because I was so keen to get my hands on one! It does turn up from time to time in the UCD, so keep checking :)

I haven't had a problem with my C-West Silvia or S2000 LM Race Car's appearance. I don't notice the graphics too much in the game.
Maybe it's because I could care less about the visuals and care more about the driving experience?

I do notice the pictures of the low res cars in this thread. I do think it is inexcusable to have cars directly ported from GT4 and GT3 without even touching them up like they said they would.

My mom...
Greycap
Speaking of dads actually...

Lol, it's funny you guys mention that because my dad considerably notices it. If your mom has never seen an LCD TV running on a non HD channel and can't see that pixelation, she must need glasses. Or just doesn't have a knack for the little things it seems our generation is so obsessed about.

Although when we're talking about my dad, he's been a long time video game fan from Atari to Playstation. He owns a PS2 and PS3 and see's a world of difference.

A little off-topic~ I am pretty disappointed in the HPA R32 because that was a great little car in GT4 and it deserves a Premium spot in my opinion.

E: I wonder if gamers have any extra perspectives on the world compared to other generations.. we pay so much attention to detail that even little things stick out like a sore thumb.

GT5 "Premium" = "Standard" -- The quality we had come to expect from PD.
GT5 "Standard" = "Sub-Standard" -- The quality level which enabled PD to release over 1000 cars, and well over 30 Skylines!!!! Whoop-Dee!!!!

PD should have just released the Premium models. The Standards are just another example of how the title got rushed out the door in the name of sales and marketing.

Interesting the same "you don't notice when you're racing" defense for GT5 doesn't/didn't apply to Forza 3.

There are so many interesting, low-hp cars in GT5 that any adult who drives a car can jump into, set it to bumper-cam and have a blast in. All while mostly maintaining on the course of choice (usually the 'ring for the country drive experience). Well, at least using my little arcade set up.

Don't get me wrong. I love [H]igh resolution graphics, and sure, GT5 is far from perfect, but it's got one of the most satisfying and raw driving models to date. That excuses PD from a whole hell of a lot, as far as I'm concerned.

It's amazing that the craptastic PS3 can push the levels of graphics, physics and frame rates that it does in this game, premium models or not. I wish PD would abandon the Playstation or at least go multi-platform; with the PC version being the main code and the Playstation receiving a dumbed-down port.

I'm willing to pay for more powerful hardware and I'm not talking about the next dead-end iteration of the Playstation. I'd wager that most of the loudest belly-acher's who complain about "bad graphics lollololol" expect 5-year old computer architecture to make them a sandwich and then run to the beer store to pick up a box.

not for nothing we all know what kind of cars are in the game as far as quality wise stop crying about how they look already its a video game not real life come on people

Oh my gosh. I think my eyes exploded from looking at that horrible grammar. What are you trying to say?

stop complaning how a standard car looks already people have heard enough we all know standard cars look like crap get over it already. is this better grammer for you

Not really, no.:)

Anyway I once said that most of my time will be spent on premiums.

40 out of the 55 cars in my favorites are standards as of this moment...

The SVT Lightning. That strip of plastic on the back bumper looks like late 90's textures a la NFS High Stakes (or worse).

...really?

My father has said two or three times already that GT4 looks real. The only time it looked real to me was from YouTube videos. Bad quality really made it look realistic.

👍 👍

Interesting that there's no mention nor pics of standard cars anywhere in the box and TV ads. If PD doesn't even bother to mention them, how am I supposed to feel about standard cars?

Hi all. Most of the cars in this game are downright rediculously beautiful. However I bought a lamborghini diablo JGTC car from the online dealership and wow it's low res! Some of the sponsors are barely a splodge. I mean lower than ps1! Is it just this car or are there others with such little care? Yes there are a lot of other cars to drive but including this car defies the whole point of the game delay.
I believe all the standard cars are ported directly from the PSP. Or at least most of them. Thats why the resolution is so poor. Some standard cars like the Berlinette are are just downright terrible.

All standard cars underside are not even modeled at all.

Check out the Alfa 155 Touring Car if you get the chance.
Specifically the exhausts, they're... I can't even describe.
They look like they were drawn in paint and then stretched 100x.

Won't happen. Both companies need each other to sell games and consoles.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Dome Zero Concept.

I think I may be able to count on my hands how many polygons this car has (exaggeration, but only slight)

For every one standard car that looks like the Alto Works, there are three that look like this:

SpecialStageRoute7_2.jpg

..But people don't like pointing out that a lot of the standards look amazing for cars that didn't have much work done to them. They just like trolling with the same images being reposted over and over.

Oh, and as a side note, the E55 AMG sounds amazing.

Take that same photo at daytime and you'll quickly see how the night lighting was hiding many of the flaws.

I just don't understand how PD ever believed that they would get away with putting last generation console car models on the ps3 and not be heavily critsized for it.
It would have been ok during maybe the first year the PS3 was out, but yeah this far into the consoles life, no excuse.

Holy moly....this pick even makes the track look like it was from last generation. Who am I kidding, it probably is and I've noticed this on various tracks; they seem so lifeless and seem to lack depth. Don't get me wrong some tracks look great, but others look like they were pulled from GT4/GT Portable.

1080p LED TV highest settings and the Mustang on the front of the Ford Mustang (standard version) shows as a giant single pixel in that car delivery cut-scene thing :dopey:

Just look at the low-res detail on this :

I can't pinpoint one standard car that looks really bad, but one of the things that I notice on the bad ones is right when I see them in the scene where the car goes toward you when you just buy the car. I'd see them with those really bad textured front grille. One that I can think of straight up is the Cadillac Cien. I've seen better days on that car lol.

Haha, gotta love those perfectionists at PD.

That is quiet odd, but I still believe Kaz and PD are perfectionists. If you give them 5 more years to polish, or perhaps detail all 1,000 cars, they probably would. Problem with perfectionists is time. The bad things we see in the game doesn't necessarily mean they're ok with it, or does it? We gotta give them where credit is due and that's the ridiculous amount of detail and work they put into the Premiums.

But yeah guys. PD may have ported hundreds of cars, but being a driving game that it is, at least they're great to drive. Besides, they're ok to look at when you're actually racing. I mean when I'm passing A.I opponents with standard cars, it's hard to tell, unless I'm focusing more on comparing than racing. Looking and zooming at them closely is another thing. Even PD didn't have that intention, which is why Standard Cars are banned from photo travel lol.

I always thought PD's goal is so that we have 1000 cars to drive with, not necessarily to look at them closely in detail... we have over 200 for those. I see a lot people wanting just 200 premiums and kick out the standards, but I'll take the 200 premiums, and the 800 more cars to DRIVE with (and drift in my case) any day. For this reason, I thought Kaz/PD did us a favor for giving us 800 "extra" cars to play with, not mainly for marketing reasons or other things being said about it. We can all believe what we want to believe, but that's what I think.
