60 % Nerd, 43% Geek, 52% Dork

I'd say that the Geek side of me shows more when I'm talking to people about things, like beatles music, but the nerd side shows more when I'm bored, and I just start listening to peoples conversations and mumble the correct things, like:

Person A: How many planets are there in the solar system?
Person B: I think there is 9 or 10
Me: There are 8 "full" size planets in our solar system, pluto was moved into a lower class of planets called "Dwarf Planets", which also includes places like Ceres and Eris.
Other People: Okay........*Walk away slowly*

And my sister calls me a dork 50% of the time, so I guess it's about right.

From,
Chris.

I guess I qualify as a nerd, if only for the simple reason that my glasses are...well...

And I'm a car nerd, even though I don't talk that much about them irl, because everyone I know is pretty much a jackass and I'm shy like a little girl... sort of.

And Harry Potter was good ten years ago, not so much now. I grew out of it.

And Brad, there are other things besides iPods for mp3 players. And yes, Apple is evil :D

I realize that now, but it was high school, and having anything but an iPod was totally un-cool. Then again, I only ended up with a 6GB Mini, but it was all that I could afford.

If I really wanted to demonstrate my nerdyness to all the ladies, I'd buy a Zune. But I'm always considering an iRiver from time to time...

Tech is usually a good way to assess the nerdyness of someone. I tend to find that most Mac folks are either big nerds, or big, self-obsessed, trend-riding douchebags... There usually isn't much of a middle-ground.

Sure, I'm definitely a PC guy, but I can't help that I've been using them since I was in elementary school...

My car is good in that it only leaks 80% of the time, and that I can scare small children with the sound coming through my rusted-through exaust.

V6 powah!!!11!!

even though it's only about 100whp. -_-

And it was my grandma's car originally, so I had no choice.

It's the uber nerd car, or a psuedo ghetto cruiser.

I'm very suprised:

The Test
Your Score: Joe Normal

39 % Nerd, 4% Geek, 47% Dork

I scored 99% in each category.

I guess I'm just a smart kid that doesn't know how to act, yet not really.

Hmm, don’t you think that’s a bit hypocritical considering your thread title?

52 % Nerd, 34% Geek, 56% Dork

The classic, "80's" nerd, you are what most people think of when they think "nerd," largely due to 80's movies like Revenge of the Nerds and TV shows like Head of the Class. You're exceptionally bright and smart, and partly because of that have never quite fit in with your peers or social groups. Perhaps you've realized, or will someday, that it is possible to retain all of the things that you like about being brilliant and still make peace with the social cliques around you. Or maybe you won't--it's really not necessary. As the brothers of Lambda Lambda Lambda discovered, you're fine just the way you are and can take pride in that. I mean, who wants to be like Ogre, right!?

I'm not sure how to feel.... :nervous:

...Yes...

But I was speaking more about the "normals" who buy-into the Mac culture, or even bits and pieces of nerd culture, just to seem "cool."

Sure, I should be nice to them, but when it becomes cool to know about or use whatever, despite the fact I've been doing it for years, you have to get a bit upset at the folks who hop on expecting to be treated as equals.

Don't take this the wrong way, YSSMAN, but you seem to have a lot of pre-conceptions and prejudices about brand names and the people who buy them. Sure, people who buy a product strictly because they want an image are what I call "labelwhores", but most people don't really fall into that category. A lot of people actually buy stuff because they like what it does for them and for the value, not to mention they don't have 3 years to make a perfectly educated and executed purchase.

You can't be different about everything, because the internet proves there's a group of people who are interested in almost anything. Splitting hairs over who's an enthusiast and who's a fanboy and who's a programmed tool can be done ad infinitum and only serves to prove the other party right.

No worries, I know what you mean, and I criticize myself often for falling into these pitfalls. Maybe its just the area I grew up in, or the people I go to school with, but I see it happen far too much, and it is unfortunate.

Damn, Sage owned your ass.

People don't buy into "Mac culture" to be cool. Most "cool" people aren't even familiar with the mac layout. People buy macs because they work. Even if they only bought it for the name (because, who else besides Apple makes Mac?), they trusted the name because of its reputation as a well-working machine, not because it's cool or trendy.

They purchase Macs because they look nice. Macs and PCs do pretty much the same thing, except the only difference between the two is one much more aesthetically pleasing. It's simply human nature to go towards the good looking thing. People buy into the Mac culture because they want to be included into the 'elite' group who have deviated (and differentiated) themselves from the norm so they feel all warm and fuzzy since they're somehow different from everyone else by simply affiliating themselves with the Macinites.

And one of them can use OS X and Windows. ;)

Well thanks for stating the obvious... But what do you think when you see a pretty girl? Do you think "Oh, she's HOT!" or do you think "Hmm I wonder if she'll fulfil my personal desire of feeling loved and wanted while still turning my world upside down in-a-ever-so-masochistic-but-ultimately-good way?"

I'm such a friggen dork, I just waited in line for 3 hours at a book store here in Oxford for the Harry Potter book. I don't even really read the books but hell I'm in England for the release of the book, why not buy it.

Here is me and my friend Angie in the longest line I've even been in:

You pretty much described postmodern western civilization.

I think... :dunce:

Tee hee...

I was going to go to one of the debut parties tonight, but some of the folks scared me. Sure, I'm a nerd, but some of those are just a bit too extreme for me... The mall I was at had kids waiting in line to be sorted (they had some kind of sorting hat), and it was pretty cool. But, alas, I was on my way to the GAP, thusly I had little time to spare!

There were a lot of people dressed up, but it was fun. I thought it was going to suck but surprisingly it didn't. I guess I should read the other books now, although I already know how the last one ends. Allow me to say it's not what I was expecting.

I just went to Target about half an hour ago, the new book is $18 and they have literally hundreds of them sitting on a trolley.

I got one for the hell of it.

Elementry school only? Weak ;) Since I was 3 here, had no choice in being geek, as there are pictures of me around 1 year old watching my dad build something (looks like an old Apple IIe).

No, nerds/geeks get things like these...

MobiBlu Cube (which I have)

Sandisk Sansa E2xx Series (Think of it as a Super nano that has video play back, etc)

Or, if you watch video on the go, Creative Vision W (4.3" widescreen)

Zunes are just for MS nerds and Xbox fanboys. iRiver is quality product though, and this is quite neat for its size (Shuffle can just die, that little POS it is)

I was watching television this morning and heard about some new Sprint phone that is purported to be an "iPone killer." I'd get one just to be different, but given that Sprint guys like me are already supposed to be nerdy, it wouldn't change a thing...

I think you care too much about peoples perceptions of you. Buy things because you want them, do things because you want to do them. We're individuals for a reason.
