Let me give you the answer you've all been waiting for!

A. YES! You must run every single second by yourself in A-Spec mode (yep , 24hrs)

B. NO! The sky does not change from night to day

C. YES! You can save during the race (you didn't really think PD wants a massive rise of insomnia victims, did you?)

no daylight change???

thats a massive dissapointment, i cant understand why thats been ignored its the whole point of a 24 hour race.

24 hours on the Ring'...OMFG! That is just going to be insane....but can't wait to play it! :-)

I think all one would need to do is finish this one race in order to know the track like the back of their hand... :)

that's awesome, but i am also disappointed that there are no day and night changes ! how unrealistic is that ? even if the track in rockin' you can't race through 24 hours of daylight.. it just doesn't happen !

Stop for a while and think about it... think about what techniques and graphics effects we've already seen in GT4: no indication of real time lighting effects, not possible to use the headlights properly as expected during night in a 24hr event. The lack of night driving was totally foreseeable...

I think that will be one of the features in GT5, under more computing power (PS3)

Still, nice to be able to save while racing.

.

This makes sense, but I do recall seeing GT4 videos from Demo & Prologue where the headlights were on because it was getting dark outside (like late evening)...so I wouldn't rule out night time driving completely. But I do agree, and doubt we'll see any visual affects from automobile headlights.

Headlights on as were on in GT3's Laguna Seca. Just eye-candy, no real lighting.

The save in a long race is great. The lack of changing daylight is not so difficult imho. They only need day and night track. And the transition they can make so they just use day track and darken the environment a bit every 10 minutes and the whole transition to last like 30 minutes or so. That would be just fine.

I can't even imagine to play for like 5 hrs or more and the power is disconnected :D

It would be nice to see the 24 hour races to be driven by yourself, then get out for a couple of hours and let the B-Spec take over for a few stints. Then you can jump back in.

BAh you know what?... Lemans is the first time portrayed properly in a game (24hrs gameplay? for one race... geez) and for no night and day, just imagine you're near the artic pole for the race and its day time. There, its possible.

Guys there are limitations to what a PS2 game can do... sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but it was never gonna happen. There's been a huge thread on this last year and the PS2 just can't muster that much processing resources just for the sake of a change in lighting.

Yeah .. that would be one way to think of it,.

Chalk up time progression on the GT5 list.

absolutely, GT4 is definitely the best sim out so far and the first to give a full 24 hour race. i didnt mean to sound so critical, i hadn't had breakfast yet :sly: i guess i will just have to pretend i'm racing in the artic circle  it's not that important to me. i just remember thinking how cool it was that when grand theft auto came out there were changing weather conditions, and thought.. damn it GT had something like that.. it would rock ! heh. later !

imagine loosing the 24 hour race by a mere second orso :)

Any info in what type of car all the endurance races are available in? In other words, can i do a 24h race in a Volvo 240, or do you need to do it in a Falken Skyline?

in gamespot there's an interview with the producer. he says that the time can be compressed until 4x. so the minimum time racing is 6 hours.

it would be interesting if the race would switch between A and B spec modes during a 24 hour race. I am under the impression that the same person doesnt race 24 hours straight in Lemans and the like.. am i right? i don't know for sure. It would be nice if that was the build up to your A and B Spec skill level. I heard that your AI seems to get better in Bspec mode the more you race in it.. so it would be cool if the 24 hour was your final challenge, and you would race the first 6 hours, then you would put your B Spec racer to the test to see if he can hold his own for another 6 hours and keep your position and so on... would be my ideal 24 hour race :D later-

Ihope you are right.

Btw is there a limit in how many times you can save during the race?

i really hope this is not the only race u get formula1 cars because i loved getting every single color available in gt3 but 24hours for race i might just settle for 1 formula1 car(i dont want to settle though :indiff: )

I don't think that there is a limit to save during endurance races. I think that gamesave is only available during pit stop. Or is it? Anyone tried it?

Sorry for going OT, but no GT4 is not the first game to feature 24H Mode. There's a "certain" GTR for PC (just released in Germany, though I imported it) which brings the whole 24hours of Spa, with day and night transitions... No Ring 24Hours, but still better than 24hours in the day (whick kind of sucks, though racing against just 5 AI for 24hours imho sucks even more).

Indeed you are correct Boxer - I was gonna point that out myself and you beat me to it.

Le Mans 24 hours was available in the UK. Originally on PS1, it was then re-written for Dreamcast and ported for PS2 and featured both Le Man and Road America with full weather effects.

The rain was crap in it though 'cause it looked (and indeed felt) more like snow!

But the lighting effects were really cool:)

Sadly, it was Road Atlanta, not Road America. I must be in the minority. I liked that game. During the longer enduros you could save progress by pitting.

Whoops - yeah Road Atlanta...lol

Game was cool, cars felt a bit too loose though, there wasn't a feeling of "weight".

Do you agree that the rain looked more like snow though?

But the weather effects were really cool with the sun glare and the feeling of day progressing to night :)
