How could the GT2 wheel possibly be noisier than the G27? Is the GT2 that much noisier than the Turbo S?

The fan on the GT2 is always on and slightly detectable. But GT2's FF is quieter than G27's.

Not sure that I would call Engadget's review non-hardcore, as the first thing they tested on was iRacing...

Interesting summation.

However, we can't say it's a clearly better wheel than the G27 -- which notably doesn't work with the Xbox 360. The Alcantara feel, easy configurability, and powerful motors are definitely assets here, but Logitech's offering is quieter and has a more sturdy clamp if you're going for a non-permanent install.

I must have been in the next room when these guys where discussing their conclusion, how else do you explain different people in different locations coming to the same conclusion independently?

Coincidence.... or something more sinister? cue X-Files theme...

ill be the first to admit the fanatec clamp is a joke. but its the last thing im looking at at these prices. should be considered important by those who are attaching to a desk and cant drill for aesthetic reasons. everyone else paying these prices will be hard mounting.

Not true at all.

The clamp should be the first thing positive you can note abotu a product - many people dont feel the need to hardmount ont he cockpits they have if the clamp system suffices.

The clamp is poor, poor plastic junk engineering on an otherwise well designed product. One should really be asking how on earth did the clamps pass basic QC and beta testing?

G27 helical gears are quieter as well has less resistance than Gt2/3 belt especially when you are turning against the ffb. The Gt2/3 belt makes a "sawing" noise. They (in the article) seem to did their testing with Iracing so G27 is quieter. G27 is louder though when trying to simulate driving on dirt some thing you don't do in Iracing. Both GT2/3 and G27 is much quieter than DFGT.

The only way to have a decent clamp with the Fanatec wheel is pay extra with their table clamp like I did. Sadly even with the $40 table clamp Logitech wheel still clamps better. I'm not too sure if it's really worth $40.
Sometimes I like racing on my rig ,sometimes at my PC table and sometimes clamped to a cheap table in the living room (PS3) so clamps are important to me.

I can say for fact that my Turbo S is WAY quieter than my old G25 and quieter than my friends G27 too.

I don't use clamps I hard mount, so I don't even care. Even the highest rated logitech clamp still sucks compared to hard mounting.

The old G25 used standard gears. I have both wheel so I know for sure G27 doesn't have that sawing noise that the Fanatec wheels have. ( not that it's a big deal but the article was right) If your friend G27 is louder than Fanatec wheel (except on dirt like Dirt2) then he needs to get it fix. I have race pretty close equal hours both wheels since GT5 came out.

The clamp is not perfect. But its not all that bad, Its just not idiot proof...adjust it so its a tight fit sliding onto the surface with the quick releases open...once you get it in place snap the quick releases closed and it will be fine. I had heaps of problems with it at first, then I got it adjusted properly, and it has never moved since.
