Engine braking question on car set up

What effects does engine braking have on set ups? I'm trying to figure out what best to help me as struggling with handling corners in respect to deceleration, braking and acceleration out of the corners. Using manual shifting and trying to get better with the balance of downshifting and braking and find myself struggling to get back to a good speed coming out of corners. I have very little understanding on many of the aspects of set ups in PCars2 so any input, direction to resources would be very helpful. thanks

Hmmm the higher you have it the less the back comes around under braking from what I think. I tend keep it high in FF and 4wd cars

I recommend these playlists if you are having trouble. It is on pcars1 but still holds true. I'd say these tips are more significant than the engine braking.

Yeah his videos are fantastic!

I wonder what happened to him as he regularly released videos and even have some videos on what pc2 needs to have etc.

His videos just stopped...nothing for months.

Thank you for these. Will be very helpful

As far as I see it, the lower you have the engine braking the more your car will turn in off-throttle. If you thinks it's turning in too much raise the value until you're happy.

You'll find a lot of the stable setups have a higher engine braking number than the loose setups, as the car can feel more unstable if it turns in too much and surprises you. I've had to turn it up a lot in certain cars, such as the FC, but recent patch notes say they've tweaked that car so perhaps I can turn it down a bit now...

I'd say adjust the roll bars first though, as many stock setups are quite understeery, and you can get the car to turn in more with roll bars and front downforce if you don't want to mess with the engine braking just yet, but it is a handy feature now which we didn't get in the first game.

Just to clarify what it is the setting simulates, it controls how much fuel is fed to the engine with the throttle closed. A lower setting means less fuel, which means more engine braking. A higher setting means more fuel, so the engine speed won't decrease as quickly.

I like to race using the default setups so I'm used to adjusting my driving style to suit the car rather than the other way round. I suggest that at first you leave the car alone and experiment with the revs at which you downshift. There are some cars which are easily upset by downshifts - if so try shifting much, much later than normal. Try the Silverstone Classic circuit - it has a range of high speed and medium speed corners which will be good for trying out different shift points.

Try some of the older cars which need earlier braking input at this circuit as you have a bigger time window in which to work on your braking, shifting and throttle transition points, I suggest the 1959 Aston Martin DBR1/300 and then the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Perhaps go more modern next with a GT4 Ginetta.

Perfect and will give your suggestions a try. Thank you

Remember the old saying "Slow in fast out". Track position (line) is very important in Project Cars - you lose a lot of time by braking late and running wide, so work on braking early to set the car up for the corner - especially with an old car like the Aston.
