You do not need to rebuild them every 2000 miles in game either. More like every 4,500-5,000 miles at most and even then it barely shows signs of wear.

And yes in real life racing you would be very lucky to get 2,000 miles on a race engine without rebuilding it. Odds are that it would not just loose 1 or 2 hp but fail completely possibly catastrophically.

I actually did the Grand Valley 300km in a C5 Corvette last night, which previously only had a few laps of Grand Valley on its odometer for a few test laps. Fresh oil. It had the option for an engine rebuild after the race. It didn't gain any power from doing it. 426hp before and after the rebuild.

id highly doubt that. since most events have multiple heats ie knock out race style events. 16-8-4-2-winner. so they have to run multiple times. its more like every 1-2 miles which would be 4-8 runs.

Thats how quick they are at rebuilding the engines. They do have to rebuild them almost after every run. Thats why some of them don't make it to the line in time. They couldn't rebuild it quick enough. Heres a quote from the a website "After every pass, a Top Fuel engine is completely torn down and rebuilt in an amount of time that most engine builders find is barely enough to gap rings. In an IHRA-sanctioned event, teams are allowed 90 minutes between rounds, but NHRA teams are given just 75 minutes to completely rebuild the engine, make whatever chassis adjustments they deem necessary, and get back on the line." http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/top_fuel_engine_rebuild/index.html from there. Not to be rude, but people seriously do need to get facts before they start assuming.

You can see the engines being torn down in the pits after each pass if you watch drag racing at all.

it seems a little odd to be stripping down and rebuilding an engine in the pits. not the best place id imagine.

Yah if you seen a drag race with top fuel dragsters its unbelievable what the engine goes through in that short amount of time. I'm sure they could try to run it a second time, but theres a very slim chance that engine wouldn't blow during it. Pushing 2300lbs up to and over 300mph in a 1/4mile. You'll want to be rebuilt yourself if you did that much work.
