When it comes to engine sounds, I guess some cars have some rather unique sounds that can't be taken away or modified to some sounds game designers "guessed" at the engine sound. With that JMB Giesse Ferrari in "Le Mans 24 Hours," you can imagine how I felt when my favorite sportscar, the Ferrari 333SP, to sound like the F1 car. I was p*ssed off. I guess as a consolation, the sound for the Audis in the game should have been used for that Ferrari. But I'll take the sounds for the Audis even though they weren't accurate. I don't know if any video game has been successful at capturing the sounds of an American V6 or V8. If you know any, plead your case and I just might hush my yap. I think if you have racing mufflers, obviously your car will sound different. Before complaining about "ricer" mufflers, no matter what setup you get with a car (even if it is a tuner mod), you will have a different sound. If you want to mod a Corvette with a racing muffler, you'll obviously get a meaner exhaust note. And no matter what kind of car you have, the engine sound should be at least remotely different from the normal configuation. Don't do like GT3 whereas things sound the same. So, I wouldn't want to hook up an S2000 with a racing muffler just to have one sounding like the GT3 sound. You know, I want something unique. Something out of the ordinary. Something from that specific manufacturer. Don't make it sound like other cars. The noise from an Aston Martin DB7 should be different from a Ferrari 360 Modena. Those Australian V8s should have a mean sound like in "Pro Race Driver." And if you bring a Ford Falcon into GT4, you HAVE to include Holden to take a rivalry digital. All I'm saying is that with a lot of cars, you won't have to try to match each one exactly in sound, but do just enough so that too many cars don't sound the same all the time. If you make that error, a works Mini Cooper will sound like a Ferrari. A Corvette will sound like a vaccum. A Formula One race car will sound like a bunch of generators at a power plant. While I don't let little unnoticeables judge whether a game is good or not, at least the sounds shouldn't be a fussbudget.
