How many opponents can you race against in enthusia. Can I kit up my cars?. Are there any ferraris porsches or lambos?

I think no ferraris or porsches... the other questions are interesting indeed, I don't know... I think I've never seen more than 4 cars on the track so I think it will be like in GT, 6 cars.... tuning, also a point.... can't remember any tuning screens... we will see in two weeks....

I've seen a vid with 8 cars on track together. But that may have been CG, but then why would they add more cars than it can fit on the track in game?

My previous post sounds a little harsch. Wasn't my intention!!!!!!!!!!

Well its ok... no problem :) ... but the screen only show adjustments, ok they call it tuning.... but what's about buying turbos etc.... Konami writes " stage based tuning ", sounds like the NfS U upgrades without much influence..... or maybe that you can't buy everything in the beginning, perhaps a small turbo first and after a while a bigger one?... we will see.....

we will see.....

Yes, we have to wait and see!! :)

I, personally, think that it is just a main screen before you get the more detailed "tuning" screens, after choosing for instance: toe angle 💡
You know what I mean????

So far, I've been under the impression that tuning in Enthusia is very limited.. basically, you just "upgrade" your car like in the old, OLD NFS games.. "Upgrade 1, Upgrade 2", etc, but no control over exactly what parts go where, and probably without the ability to fine-tune anything.

You can fine tune the cars settings, but performance upgrades won't be anything like what weve got usd to in the GT games.

AI seems pretty good. One good test is running the course backwards and seeing if the AI car will actually dodge you. In GT the other car won't even try to dodge you, it will just collide with you head on , in Enthusia the car actually will swerve out of the way.

Visual effects are different. There's this frame around the screen that is fairly narrow that is sort of shaded. It seems to move based on the G forces. If you swerve left, the frame will actually go right for a second and then recenter. If your going fast, the sense of speed comes from blurring the edge of the screen. And one last visual, if you are going to slam into a wall pretty hard, you get a matrix like slow-mo effect then a flash of white all over the screen about a second before collision. I guess this is kinda reallistic as people who have wrecks say everything slows down before impact.

The lighting effects are really cool. They do a good job on one track of the light shining though the trees onto the track. It looks very real.

The rain effect is nice though. The drops slowly move up at first, then just zoom up the screen just like a real car.

After the race you get a lap by lap analysis of what happened where on the lap, such as collisions, overtakes, etc. It will also give you splits for each lap, top speed, course out, and full braking. This is very nice feature if you over analyze stuff like me.

The physics are definitely different. Better/worse than GT, I'm not sure. You definitely seem to have less control over the car. Is this because of my driving, probably. But if you are a drifter(I'm not), you will love this. I can slide that Elise in the rain like there's no tomorrow.

Overall it's ok, but it has got a little more work to be done and definitely offer tuning to take me away from GT4. I will wait on US release instead of importing from Japan after playing demo. It's not bad, just not great to me yet. I feel right now it will be a cross between PGR2 and Sega GT for XBox, I could be wrong though.

Spent at least a full hour playing the demo and it is definitely beyond my expectations. The demo is from December 2004, and it still has the old Virtual Gravity System (VGS), but still, the physics are great! I’m using the DFP and 900 degrees is standard in the demo. The wet track really has a nice and realistic slippery feel and rain drops effect, the other tracks are great too (not a big fan of oval type tracks, so I didn’t spend much time there). Even though I wasn’t able to turn the Traction Control System off, it is possible to make pretty realistic maneuvers that you will never see on GT4. I noticed skid marks!, but NO reverse light on the demo. doesn’t bother me at all.

Overall the game seems to be pretty well done, imo, the graphics are pretty decent, the physics are great. Can’t wait until May… any questions let me know.

No reverse lights? How will the AI know I'm running the track in reverse? :dopey: [Fanboy]If they don't fix that, I won't buy this game. Forza will own it.[/Fanboy] :yuck:

But really, I need to break out my wheel on the demo. I just played with the sticks last night. And with a new DS2, I had great throttle control.

bmw5150 and to all others, thx for impressions :)

Some questions from me:

Can you lock the tires? And if yes, can you feel it properly?
What about pendulum effect?
Is suspension bouncing on bumps? I mean, in gt series its 'flat', there is weight tranistion but suspension is not 'boucing' at all.
What about some more comments about the sounds.. ?:)

And can someone please compare it to live for speed ?:)

the relativly low famitsu score (3 * 7) makes me think .... It can't be grafics, sound or the handling of the cars.... For me that score is a indocator for a weak ( perhaps a bit boring ) game structure... The 100 year mode with the automatic unlock of cars and the lack of a moneybased storymode together with "upgrade" tuning already got my attention in the last months, I always had a "bad" feeling about it... but then I thought that PGR2 had a similar system and was a lot of fun.... maybe we are lucky and the famitsu guys are just huge GT fans.....

The demo is very limited, very limited indeed! You can't switch off the TCS or anything else. I also can't tell what kind of tires I'm using. I never noticed extreme tire locking or anything (like on GTR), but then again it must be the ABS. It's hard for me to compare to live for speed because I never got to spend much time playing LFS, and never had my DFP setup for it. It's pretty difficult to hear the engine sound or the tires when the music is so loud covering up pretty much everything you want to hear. I'm pretty sure it will be possible to have it turned off or at least turned down on the final version of the game. It's not easier, but it is sure more fun to drift than in GT4. Also, if you are going at a certain speed and you push the hand break (emergency break)and steer to a direction at the same time the car will properly transfer its weight and you can easily turn 180 degrees, just like in a real car. As mentioned before, the bouncing when hitting other vehicles or landscape is really a drawback. It's just like GT4! But when you have built speed and you hit something pretty hard a really cool effect comes into place... First everything turns in slow motion, then it all turns white and of course you can't see anything and you completely loose control. All of it happens pretty quickly. Pretty well done.

I'll definitely have to spend more time on the demo and then get my DFP to the computer and try LFS with a wheel. Only then I'll be able to compare... I’ll plan to do that asap... now back to work.:D

Famitsu can't review true simulators worth a damn... back when F355 challenge was released (one of the BEST Dreamcast releases) they scored with sixes and sevens...

according to them, the game sucked because it was too hard... typical "gamer" stance, that wasn't a game, and sega said so them selves.. it was a SIM. so it should've been reviewed like one.. GT4 got a good review from them.. only because the game comes with "arcade" settings by default, ASM is on by default.. so is Traction control, and all cars come premodified with "S2" tyres, which have unrealistic grip levels. (and not only that, but they make the car easier to handle)

if gt4 came with all those aids off by default, (which in my opinion it's the way it should be.. after all, when you buy a car you don't get it with aftermarket tires to begin with...) famitsu wouldve scored GT4 very low.. because it would be too hard for them (get some god damned sim reviewers famitsu, it's obvious you are not qualified to review sims!). i Can see why PD chose to have all those aids on by default.. so they wouldn't turn off the casual gamer.. but really, aids are turned on only if you realize you don't have the skills to handle a car at it's limit.. or the time to get good, but oh well, at least you can turn them off...

What i'm getting at, is that enthusia probably has a more realistic feel, which in turn.. will turn off casual gamers, but this is a DRIVERS game, it's a game aimed for car enthusiasts, not the avarage joe... and therefore, it shouldn't be reviewed by an avarage joe (in this case, famitsu). just wait for some european / american sim reviewers.. they'll give you a much more objective opinion on the game, i'm betting many people will be turned off by the fact that the tuning options are limited... but just remmember who the game is being targeted at.. drivers, not turners, i for one spend much more time doing time attacks in GT4 with all aids off, no TCS, MT, and N2 tyres because they provide the most realistic settigns, and i do it with STOCK cars, i like the tunning... but what i don't like is the fact that once you change tyres in GT4 the game pretty much becomes arcade... because they take the car's stock tyre. and just add more grip.. instead of having real "sports" tyres available, that ruins that for me, so for race cars i use "R1" tyres in arcade mode for time attacks, and for stock cars i use N2 for the same thing.

in Enthusia it will be intresting to see if they really added "sports" tyres, or if they just added more grip to the stock tyre, (take a car like an NSX-R.. which allready has sports tyres on them.. then equip it with "S2" tyres in GT4.. you end up with slick like performance, lame.) i can't wait to get my hands on it.. and the "wheel going back to center" thing sounds awsome, that's pretty much the only complain i have in GT4's wheel simulation, i've had it since prologue.. and i hoped that it would be improved in the final version, but it wasn't.

anyway.. what i'm trying to say is.. if you're a casual gamer, this game may not be for you... but if you're a sim fan who cares more about the driving experience than spending time tunning the car, this might be a very good game to get... can't wait to try it.

Well, to start with your last words, I've played it in August 2004 for about an hour, I've preordered a japanese copy ( shipping next week) and well I have a lot of racing games... and if I look at them, I must come back to the fact I wanted to point out : Is the game challenging ? Keeps the game me wanting to go on ?
That means how is the game progress' structure ? I also have F355 for DC, and yes it was fun to drive, but the game structure was really bad... The Gran Turismo System is quite the best I know, as in Gt2 (Gt4, too easy: in almost every race you can take a PS moster ).... a Driving sim is ok, but for me it still should be a GAME with challenges and longterm motivation to get 100% etc... especially because a well structered game can also be a great sim... So I want both... and is that the case with Enthusia ? I don't know... I don't think that Famitsu rated it low because of the difficulty, as japanese gamers are really hardcore...
Well, I think that 7 is quite what I'd give F355... it is just not a good GAME... a great sim, but only a average game....

japanese gamers on the whole are NOT hardcore. Take a look at their best-seller lists and set your face to "WTF?!"

Well, I mean OK, it's always impossible to judge o a whole people.... So my sentence was a bit too general... in short words... if you look at the best sellers lists, you always have to keep in mind, that in Japan most children play, really a lot of women play and they like different genres compared to EU & USA;
But go to a japanese arcade, and there are many of them, I've been in at least 50 in Tokyo alone... they are really hardcore...also japanese games are often quite difficult compared to their western releases, take the Xbox game I forgot the name, it was a action game, it was very difficult, but they released a even more difficult version of it in Japan after a while... well in Metal Gear Solid 3 it was the other way round, hard to say, things also changed in Japan but nevertheless, what I wanted to say is that I don't think that Famitsu scored it low because of its difficulty but eventually because of it's boring gamestructre...

Actually Japanese gamers are VERY much hardcore :p This is probably a bad example but you should see the Japanese DDR and Beatmania videos to see how hardcore those guys are. I believe the famous DDR player was called "Yasu".
But in general their "videogame" culture enjoys a different genre of games than in Western countries. There's a different culture for everything and in Japan pachinko and dating sim games are just as popular as first person shooters in America :)

Based on the demo the graphics are not up to GT4 level so that migh deduct one point. The biggest problem is that playing with a dualshock2 is not fun at all and I would bet this is what warranted a low score more than anything else. It is playable but its akwardly limiting with the pad. DFP support is great though, better than GT4 and it seems like its the only way to play Enthusia unless there are some DS2 options which I kind of doubt.

Make sure you have a DFP to use before you judge this game.
