Escudo dirt trial car. where to drive it??

Who needs a xbox? I gotta PS3!
While I was running all the manufacture specific races I came across the Suzuki Escudo dirt car, over 1000 HP with just an oil change, huge rear wing, wedge shaped front end it looked just like what you'd need to run the dirt rallys & win them with not much effort.
So I ran the Yosemite rally 1 (hard) & won the car.
Well it's a monster but it's useless!!!!
There isn't any where fast enough to bring the aerodynamics in & it has such severe turbo lag that you have no bottom end!

It looks like it'd be fun to drive but where can you put it's power & aero to good use??
 
I agree w/ the like the wind race. I was really looking forward to winning the car because the way it was in GT2 and GT3. Now I dont understand what happend to it. I raced it in a rally too and felt that turbo lag. I tried to tweek it but mabye someone with more knowlege and skill can make it happen. As far as I can say, strait speed is about all i can get out of it.
 
While I don't doubt it can win 'like the wind' against the rather feeble AI, it's downforce biased aerodynamics mean it can easily be outdone by any of the LMPs, allowing tuning for maximum speed for both. Not sure how the competition would go stock for stock.
I would recommend against using the wheelie settings as well. I tried it in GT3 and the car was so atrociously slow through the corners that hitting 600-900 km/h on the straights didn't matter.
Where can you use it? Not really anywhere, practically speaking. The superhighway-wide Swiss Alps track is one possibility. The long straights and wide corners of Grand Valley is another. Chamonix might be good for a laugh, wheelspin is almost constant there with anything anyway.
It's a novelty car, just run it from course to course, see what's fun. Maybe master the zen art of lag control while you're at it.
 
It's fun on the ring. Good for under 6:50... but no great shakes against race cars there...

I like it... the turbo lag means you get to set it up just right before it goes straight from warp speed to ludicrous speed. Also pretty easy to catch in moderate speed slides thanks to AWD. But in racing situations, pretty useless... can't keep the tires alive long enough, and it doesn't give you enough A-Spec points to make it worth the challenge.

OK, this one's interesting...

The Escudo was designed to race the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, nothing more, nothing less... It's degined to go uphill on dirt, VERY VERY FAST... and it does just that IRL...

In game, I've raced the escudo on all the dirt track and it's a blast, you just have to get used to it handling characteristics and it's power band, and you're in for a helluva ride...

I like Crimson's philosiphy. :lol: Low 7s on the 1/4 aren't anything to sneeze at. :trouble::trouble: But it is a lot more understeery on the track than it was in GT2 or GT3...I used the same settings from my GT3 Escudo with no real benefits with GT4.

Just imagine what it would be like to try to drive the Escudo on a narrow track with the 5 sec penalties...
 
Race it at Like The Wind. If you get a fast enough field, the ESCUDO is capable of getting 200 pts. Also, as Mr. Slow said, you have to tweak the tranny to get enough speed.

Actually, Monster races an Escudo of pretty much the same spec (though newer model than the GT4 one) at the Queenstown Race to the Sky in New Zealand every year. Basicly, he holds the course record and wins every year apart from when the car breaks.

That must take some serious engineering know how to squeeze 987BHP out of a 1.9 litre V6!

Probably not too taxing for the BMW F1 engineers who were squeezing 1500BHP from a 1.5L 4 cylinder turbo in, like, 1983 :D I hear that thing had a slight turbolag problem as well... rumour has it that the mechanics used to start the engine the night before the race, and leave it running, with a brick on the throttle, so that the engine would be in its powerband in time for Piquet to start the grand prix.

That may not be entirely true :D

As for the Escudo, I found it impossible to drive in GT3, and no better in GT4. Heard lots about the car, but I've never been able to make it work for me no matter how much power they've blessed it with. I'm either mooching around in lag, or going no faster but getting lots of wheelspin.
 
They musta had a HUUUGE fuel tank sitting with the car overnight... lol...

They musta been beasts to drive... Hectic power there...

I would think so. Tiny capacity, and a turbocharger probably bigger than the engine itself. No torque.... no torque... no torque.... whoooooOOOOOOOOOSSSHH!

Oh yeah, and no traction control. In those days the Sinclair ZX Spectrum was at the cutting edge of home computing technology. Life was different back then. I love the story that Keke Rosberg, probably wearing RayBans, stubbed out his Marlboro on the pit wall before hopping in his 1500bhp turbocharged Williams and set off to drive a 160mph qualifying lap around Silverstone, sometime in the '80s. This would stand as the fastest lap in F1 for over 15 years.

I do believe they actually did have huge fuel tanks as well, come to think of it. Refuelling was not allowed back then and they had to be able to run for up to two hours. I seem to recall that they could carry around 200 litres of fuel.
 
Sadly I have never seen a that lap on video, it must have been some low-level flying! Yes, Keke was a superb driver, not to mention his home country...
 
The Turbo era in F1 was something to see!!
Massive HP out of the tiny engines with no computer control & brakes no where close to todays cars.
Those races got me started getting up at 6:30 AM on a Sunday morning to watch F1 live, & I still do.
I can still remember watching snippetts of races (mostly just Monaco) on wide world of sports in the 60's.
Now those drivers had big brass ones!!!!
 
I have never seen Turbo F1s due to my age but I can imagine they were more than monsters.
 
If F1 would just go back to turbo... imagine how much better it'd be... we'd watch Kimi turning up the boost, overtaking Fernando... Fernando turning up the boost, overtaking Kimi, and blowing his engine up on the straight... it'd be classic stuff.
 
No, we'd watch Kimi and Fernando spin out because they can't handle the power and SCHUMIE would blow past them for the win.... :D hehehehe

Alfaholic, I started watching F1 back in the Nelson Pique and Keke Rosburg days too... When Senna drive the 1.5 Turbo Marlboro car against Nigel Mansel in the 3.0 N/A hehehe... Classic days... When Schumie was still driving the yellow camel car...
 
I started with Senna and Prost... the Mclaren Hondas were my dream cars when I was young.

I started watching and supporting Schumie the year before Senna died... Senna was my main man, and I also supported Schumie as an up and comer!!! When Senna sadly died, I just continued supporting Schumie...
 
I vaguely remember the turbo days as I only got 2nd hand accounts of the races (they were too late and Dad wouldn't spring for a VCR). I followed it through the newspapers but not being able to watch it took some of the fun out of it. Then I lost interest in the late 80's ( I think it was because I got into girls, dancing and drinking ;-) ) and only started following it again in 2000 thanks to JPM.
