I don't think it works personally, I think it's probably already been attempted as with every other work around

Tried and failed.

There appears to be no Online features available. No OCD, Seasonals, and no friends profiles,
more importantly, NO ability to send any items at all.
Tried looking for different server options and patch blockers without much success.

I'm still looking occasionally for an individual patch blocker, to see if it makes a difference.
IF I do manage to find one, I will try again, but I don't hold much hope.
