Stylistically, I'd say it follows the modern trend of complication and mass a bit too closely for my tastes. It's too big, and too intricately styled to be appealing to me from nearly any angle.
Mechanically, it apparently is faster, easier to control, and more comfortable on the road, but it's not a true Lancer Evolution. The name "Evo X" isn't an abbreviation for "Lancer Evolution Ten," and it isn't a true Evolution. The Evos I-IX were all cheap, fast, uncivilized rally rockets. This is still fast, but now it's civilized and expensive, so it's lost a huge chunk of its appeal. Add in the fact that articulated 4WD systems are now approaching common, and I don't see anything about the Evo that's appealing in the least. It's a $20K car with $20K of goodies piled onto it, but you could have a BMW 335xi for just a little bit more money (about 5%), and you'd have all the German prestige.
However, I've read just a little blurb about the upcoming Lancer Ralliart, and it seems that, while the Evolution series has entirely lost its way, Mitsubishi may still be doing it well. The upcoming Lancer Ralliart will cost around $30K, and be powered by a detuned Evo X engine with 237hp, with only one turbo (identical otherwise), and the 4WD system from the Evolution IX. It'll have low price, huge capability of 4WD with AYC, and practicality to boot! And, since the engine is identical to the Evo X's (with one less turbo), anything that you can do to an Evo X, you can do to a Ralliart Lancer. If you ask me, this will be the true Evolution Ten.
