I always thought that the Evo turns sharper and should post a faster time around a track, but just now I ran few laps at trial mountain circuit with both cars stock standard apart from oil change

The best time for the Evo was 1:44.600 with AYC set to 40
WRX was 1:42.586 with torque sensing diff set to 65 rear and 35 front

I was kinda suprised with the result as the WRX was 2 seconds faster! What do you guys think?

I don't really like either of these cars I find them to be rubbish in comparison to the Evo 9 and the WRX before the 2010 shape. Also the 99 WRX is every bit as quick as the newer ones in standard form but looks tonnes better. In some cases the Evo 9 is quicker than the Evo 10 but, comparing Evo 10 to 2010 WRX it really depends on what track because I think the WRX would have slightly quicker acceleration but the Evo has better cornering.

If I had to choose one out of the two I'd pick the Evo. :)

The Evo I tested after oil change has 322 Hp while the Soobie has 309Hp
Personally I would pick the Evo in real life but the Impreza Sedan looks good too and way better looking than the hatchback version. From where I live I see more WRX than Evo

How close to bankstown are you? Lol

I know what you mean though, the WRX is the P-plater tool of choice. I have been seeing a few Evo's around lately, I'm a truck driver so I'm on the road quite a bit though

Sadly I don't live in Sydney, I'm in Wagga if you ever heard of it

The STi in the game is the JDM STI. Much faster than the North American ones. Different engine and suspension. Whereas the Evo is the same throughout the world. The STi u can buy here(Canada/USA) will lose to the Evo.

Sure have, I drive down there occasionally for work. Thought that was cowboy territory full of utes with UFO antennas and circle work not WRX's lol

I always prefered how the evo looked compared to the imprezza but for actual performance it has to be the suburu.

oohhh yeah

You sure about that one? Stock vs stock, I didn't have any problem taking out a Evolution X when I owned my 11' WRX Hatchback. I'm pretty sure the STi won't have a problem.

So back to topic, which one is actually faster around a track? In top gear test track power lap times they did same time between the 2 cars but it was the hatchback version while the Sedan version has abit more horsepower.

To be fair I haven't tried to set the AYC in the evo to its most optimal set up (I set it to 40) while the Subaru you can change where it sends its power which I put 65 to rear and 35 to the front.

The stats of the car in game the Evo is heavier by 50 kg but have 19 more hp and the WRX has 2 more pp
Let's assume the pp is correct then the WRX will be faster but it can't be 2 secs faster right? or probably it's my driving?

In real life the evo is quicker, they always have been for the last 10 years, in gt5 the sti is around 2 to 3 seconds a lap faster, not very realistic but hey its only a game

PP is just a rough guideline. You have to find out for yourself.

I tested all of the Evos and WRX's in the game, stock, engine overhauls where required and I too found the Subaru was about 2 seconds quicker around Trial Mountain. However I also found it was the quickest Impreza, whereas some of the older EVOs were quicker than the X. Still not as quick as the Impreza, but closer!

Can't remember offhand which Evo was quickest (the times should be in an Excel I made but are instead scribbled down somewhere) but I have a feeling it was an VIII.

I drive a Subaru in real life but I'd still go with the Evo as the faster car, just watch Best Motoring, the EVO is usually kicking the Sooby's ass

I'm not a fan of the AYC, seems too much like a computer assist (I guess it is one though), but I'll just tune it out using the adjustable LSDs. After this, I prefer the X because of its appearance and performance. Stock-for-stock, however, I take the Subaru because of its AYClessness (it's my word and you can't have it).

I'm pretty sure the 2011 impreza in the game is the prototype that they used for a ring record with Makinen.

Not to be rude but why do you think that exactly? Not disagreeing, just curious. ~Turtle

I have always found the Impreza to be quicker. I don't know how realistic that is. Depends on the track I guess.

I think it was GT4 but possibly GT3 where the latest Evo at the time had appalling understeer, I think it was the VIII. At least they sorted that to some extent, but the Imprezas generally still feel more nimble.

You are wrong. A WRX cannot keep up with an Evo. The STi can't even keep up with the Evo. Go hang out on any Evo or STi forum and the guys will tell u that.

This man speaks the truth.

So it's PD's fault that the WRX were 2 secs faster around a track, I drove the Evo as hard as I could and I just couldn't find that 2 secs.

At the time of GT5's release, the 2011 model wasn't even out and in order to have it in the game they would have had to start modeling way earlier so it makes sense that it's based on the specs of a prototype rather than the later production version . I also find it to be a little different than the production model, the suspension is just way too stiff along with other subtle differences.

Oh geez... I'm a former STi owner and "forum warrior." All this crap about the EVO being faster is just that, crap. Over the years as the cars have been updated they've gone back and forth, and the difference has always been measured in tenths of a second on pretty much any track that isn't over 10 miles long. I spent a fair amount of time and money modifying, autocrossing, and tracking mine and I can say for fact that I feared no EVO that had the same amount of upgrades done to it.

The EVOs and STIs in this game don't even drive like they're supposed to anyway. They have a generic AWD feel to them that completely lacks character. In the early years of either of these cars being in the US the defining handling characteristics of each was that the EVO was easy to rotate going into corners but suffered understeer while on throttle, while the STi was hard to rotate on the brakes but was tailhappy on throttle.

Correct. Also, you should be calling it the STi, because the WRX is a different car.

Yes It's true the two cars don't drive like they're supposed to. However, the STi(North America, I don't know about the JDM ones) has ALWAYS been slower than the Evo. It is not just "tenths of a second". Stock vs stock the Evo wins by alot. Once you go aftermarket the gap widens even further. It is much easier and cheaper to make big power on the Evo. With modding both cars, it takes a lot more money to get the STi to perform equivalent to the Evo. The STi has more creature comforts and is the better daily driver. Not only, the STi's steering design makes the car have low steering feedback. Whereas the Evo is much more direct, more raw like a race car. It doesn't feel like the car can make the turn, but you have to just trust that the car will do it.

I'll just take your word for it. Clearly your opinion outweighs the experience of someone that has owned, modified, and raced these cars.

You're basically repeating all the annoying online stereotypes developed by the magazine racers over on the EVO forums.

I have an STi....no bias here
