F12007 or F10?

Fastest lap comparison my not be entirely accurate either ... refueling was banned in 2010, so the cars started the races extremely heavy. The best potential for fast lap times would therefore be at the very end of the race when fuel loads were lightest. In 2007 they had many more laps on low fuel, sometimes refueling 3 times per race.

There is also the issue of hard vs. soft tires ... I would wager that there were many more laps run in 2007 on the soft tire/low fuel combination than in 2010.

IMO, the best comparison would be Q2 pole position times from each season because that session is always run on the lightest fuel load. Of course there are a number of other factors such as track temp, weather, etc. ... almost seems like a pointless debate unless the cars were run on the same track, by the same driver, on the same day.

Alonso is faster than Massa, Raikkonen was faster than Massa in 2007 obviously so it's not accurate to compare Massa 2007 to Alonso 2010 for example. Too many factors to say definitively which is faster.

I didnt use fastest race laps, I used Q2 times from 2007 and Q3 times from 2010 (the fastest low fuel session from each year). I agree there are many factors, but even with all those factors, the F10 is an average of .5 per lap faster. That's a HUGE gap in F1.

One thing to keep in mind - if you're like me and only use driving aids that were allowed in real life - is that the F2007 had traction control, whereas the F10 does not.

I have both but havent driven the F2007 yet. The F10 felt amazing imo, comapred to what I remember of the F2007 in Prologue. It stops on a dime and felt great and soooo well behaved, even with all aids off.

AND

Weight of cars - 560 kg and 545kg, F10 is heavier by 15kg in the game, as in real life

One thing is sure... I'm buying F2007 because I can't stand Alonso.

That really makes no sense

Agreed. Buy the number 7 Massa car, then.

Anyway, I just did a comparison of straight line performance of the F2007 and F10 at Indy.

- both cars started as "virgin" cars, with 0 miles and oil changes.
- both had identical suspension settings.
- both had downforce reduced as much as possible (50 F/100 R)
- I did 10 laps in each

The F2007 was 0.7 seconds per lap quicker around the Indy oval than the F10 was. There was no way I was catching the F2007's ghost in the F10.

It seems the extra weight really affects the F10 compared with the F2007. I guess they didn't model the fact that the F10 should have much less drag, what with the smoother body lines and F-duct.

This may be completely different on a road course, as the F10's power delivery would be a little better (lower rpm and more torque than the F2007). Only thing would be that the F2007 may be easier to drive at the limit with traction control being allowed.

F-Duct requires the driver to operate it to work, so you'd need to press a button or something to activate it. Don't think F-Duct would be incorporated in the game. Rest is true. :)

As of today I finally have both the F10 and the F2007 and I have to say that I am very surprised that i actually prefer the F2007. I have only driven both round the Nurburgring and they are both incredible. My driving skills with them need vast improvement, as i don't quite have the reaction times needed to get fast laps with them. I'm currently running around 5:30 with both cars and still making mistakes and often not having clean laps. I have done more laps in the F2007 though simply because I prefer the way it feels, although i can't quite put my finger on why, it just feels to respond to my input so much faster and seems to have more grip than the F10. I use the cockpit view and driving both roundt the nurburgring is just amazing, some of the best fun i've had on this game so far!

Can you use these cars online? Because in the lobby settings I see an option like the go-karts. Does this mean they can only be raced against each other? Or can you race them against anything?

Does the F1 2007 have the same down-force bug as the F10?

Too much down-force sends the force feedback into crazy mode because the wheels go through the track.

After getting both and driving them a fair bit my opinion is this; they're really, really close in terms of performance. Close enough that I have no trouble saying the better driver will always win. They feel slightly different, but in terms of speed there's almost nothing in it.

Like others have said the F2010 should be better due to the tyres, shame the game doesnt have the F2002 in though :(

you got that right jorday, have you done any testing with the f2007 like you have with the FGT? at fuji i did a 113.2 with the FGT and a 116.1 with the f2007. testing at nurburgring gp now.

I had similar results at fuji in that I was faster with the foumula gt...there were just too many areas to take advantage of the monstrous acceleration of the FGT for the F2007 to be able to keep up on that track, at least with me driving.

Care to elaborate? I've never heard about this before now.

The F10 does a strange thing where it/the steering wheel vibrate intensely on some high downforce corners, but I always assumed it was just a characteristic of the car rather than a bug...

I do hate both machines, as they downshift like a **** in the game, also the ferrari f10 was under hypocirsis, so no! and with a drunken f1 champion on f2007, and the last year of jean todt as a team principle..

The big 3 in ferrari was gone!

I think that's because the car is bottoming out. On super-fast corners like 130R the underside of the car is scrubbing the road and it becomes slightly unstable.

You can't use the F-duct as far as I know. The F10 is prone to understeer with Comfort Hards :sly:.

I meant that oversteer is more likey to happen in the f10 rather than the f2007 with racing softs... Since few willing to race in the rain or with lower grade tyres...
