Though I must agree with Ardius to some extent, the whole combination of story, the open world, the missions, the AI, the buddies, the multiplayer part and the editor is put together extremely well.

I find this game growing on me and the more I play it, the more I like it. I haven't had this feeling with a game for quite some time.

The AI is actually pretty good, considering the open world. Especially between dusk and dawn, you can play with the AI by making sounds, throwing grenades or shooting. They'll come investigate and even get their buddies to help them. If you sit still they won't notice you, but if they hear you or see you they'll be homing down on you like an infrared missile. :) Also, when a bad guy gets injured badly, they'll flee and try to get support. I've also noticed them do really stupid things, especially when in a car, but still, I think it's very good compared to most games out there.

I sometimes just take a boat across the rivers just to explore the map and admire the nice canyons and bridges. :)

And I have played about every FPS from Wolfenstein 3D (yes, when it was first released in 1992 :p I'm that old) to Crysis, so I'm not an FPS newbie either. ;)

The first PS I played was Berzerk on the Atari 2600 back in 1986 (yes, I'm that old).

We have we come a long way from this shooter.

In FC2, it's fun watching the enemies help their wounded. The brush fires are awesome and unpredictable. Some of the environmental effects really help engage the player for example when it's raining and storming, with the trees whipping around, leaves flying every where with an African down pour of rain....it can really set the mood.

Other than new weapon unlocks, I really don't see much changing in the game as the story progresses. As far as I know, I have seen all the vehicles (and hang gliders), I've seen all the enemies, and have seen all that the terrain has to offer. I'm only about 30% into the game so I'm sure there could be more surprises down the road but I doubt it.

I find this game addictive and greatly open but not so huge that I'm constantly wondering what I'm supposed to do next. It can be as linear or as open as you want it to be. So far I don't regret my purchase and continue to enjoy this game (no matter how many times I have to clear the same enemy outpost).

Im with you on that Pako. It's very fun, and it grows on me more and more. Im 12 percent into the game, and I just found out that you can upgrade weapons haha. But I dont like the way some weapons feel though. Like the silenced mp5. It feels like an airsoft gun. Most of the other ones feel good though. I think my favorite weapon so far is the mac-10. It puts people down quick-though it runs out of ammo quick too.

That was not a First Person Shooter. ;) I played it too on MSX, around that same time I think. But that's way off topic ofcourse. ;)

Looking forward to playing again tonight, I was bored with the current GT5P events anyway and they don't refresh until friday. :)

I must confess that the more I play, the more parts I like. Strangely I like the bit that have recieved a lot of negative feedback on other forums.

First the road-blocks, lets me honest if a heavely armed bloke in a Land Rover drove through a checkpoint at speed, in a country with a civil war raging a far chance exists that he's going to get shot at. In fact scratch the driving part, he's going to get shot at full stop. It is more than possiable to drive around the checkpoints, scout them out (another bit I like) and then pick and chose which ones you want to take on. This part is entirely down to how you want to play the game, storm in and have a big fight, or 'sneak' around and avoid one.

I also realy like the idea that you just can't pick up a gun from anyone and expect it to be working perfectly, the jams on guns and the fact that reliability varies depending on its condition I really like. It adds, for me, a nice element of uncertainty to the game. Take on time when I was set-up to ambush a convoy and had my RPG nicely lined up on the truck, aimed and fired only for the rocket to malfunction and go firing off into the bush. It forced me to quickly change plans and have to think on my feet.

Now for some people these elements are a problem, but I like what they bring to the game.

I hear ya. At first I typed FPS, then I thought...... it's not a FPS, but it could be the first Person Shooter, hence my edit of calling it the first PS. Ok, back on topic. :)

I agree. And for what it's worth, it does take a while for them to respawn. The only odd "respawn" element I saw was a large flatbed truck drop out of the air and land on the road. "Huh, guess I'll shoot at that to...." :D

Sorry but I personally just don't agree.

FC2 is to a degree generic (as any genre almost always becomes), but what it does, it does very well. Simply condeming a game because it doesn't take a huge leap forward seems a bit bizzare to me. You mention Haze, which I find an excellent example of throwing the basics out the window for the sake of a few new (and poorly implemented ideas). Haze is a massively linear, poorly designed, ugly game that abandons its main UPS a short way into the game.

Far Cry 2 may not be a massive leap forward, but it does at least offer a large degree of freedom about how you approach the game and missons on it (far more than other 'open-world' games that have claimed to do the same such as GTA4). The location and subject matter is certainly not run of the mill either, its nice to have a location/era beyond WWII, the Middle East or a future war in a FPS.

Personally I think it adds more than enough to make it a good solid game, after all COD4 did little to move the FPS on in terms of gameplay but in adding a solid and involving story line it made for an great game. I'm enjoying FC2 a lot and am far from a FPS newcomer.

Well then perhaps I just burned myself out on FPS' games but I still go by what I said, this game does not offer anything that keeps my interest at all. My main issue is with the fundamental gameplay aspects having not changed in the last 8 years very much, but I think maybe I'm just bored with the genre itself rather than anything this game did wrong.
Still, I can't help but have the feeling that if this game had come a year or two earlier I would have praised it a lot more for fixing many things FPS games do wrong or just don't bother working on much (AI, sound, physics, environments, etc).

I also still think that something new can be done with the general mechanics of FPS games though I don't know what yet, heh.

When I started the game just now, it updated itself to version 1.02. Anybody know the contents of the patch? Can't seem to find it yet through google or the ubi support forums.

Well I've been playing a little bit of the game since getting it, and i will be hammering it tonight too. My first impressions of the game are good. Yes it has a degree of pop in for textures, shadows and objects, and yes the speech is a bit rough but all in all its very neat game, Im enjoying what little story there is and it maybe a generic shooter but I have to agree with Scaff what it lacks in new ideas it makes up for in representing old ones very well.

Some cool stuff ive notice and love is the ability to blow up ammo dupts and watch the guys run for it as the boxes of bullets start filling the air with huge amounts of bullets all going in different directions and the fire apsect is good too.

So far its an average shooter with some neat touches, its not game of the year material but worthy of a look from fans of the series or FPS fans alike.

Just got the camo suit (no not a stealth suit like Crysis, just plain camo ;)) and the flare gun. Very nice, you can sneak up a lot easier and then create a fire where you want it. :)

Nice! I have the camo in my sights and on the horizon to get. I'm torn between a couple games at the moment as to which one I want to play. Fable II, Farcry II, Crysis Expansion, and now....LBP. So many choices....

Right now, Fable II has caught my attention, with FC2 a close second. I really need a couple weeks off to finish a couple of these games. :)

I got one of the weapons crates last night, which allow you to store weaponry an and then access it from any salehouse. Very handy, particulary as I also managed to get myself a mint Barrattt light .50 (can remember the exact model used in FC2) on a mission, now I can keep hold of that rather fun little toy for a while.

The thing with FC2 I've found is that the more you play it like a stealth game, the more you get out of it. Started using a silenced pistol now to clear out check-points without getting shot at, great fun.

The .50cal Sniper Rifle is great fun from a distance. There have been a couple missions where I found myself up on a ridge looking down at the area I needed to clear out. One by one, I was able to pluck them off. Now if I can get a silencer for that sniper, I'd be unstoppable. :)

Anyone else use the hang glider yet? I was pretty uneventful for me. Not sure if I wasn't using it right, but I wasn't able to get any lift and therefore found little use for it. It was a fun little flight, but I'd like to get some actual travel out of it and be able to snip from above. Now that would be cool. I've only found a couple of them so far at lower elevations. Perhaps there's one sitting higher up somewhere, time will tell...

Yeah me neither. I just realized that there is another territory just as large as the northern one that Ive been playing in. I thought that was the whole thing. Wow.

Practice with it on the map editor ;)
You can travel very large distances with it, perhaps you forgot you were using inverted controls? I've also noticed its affected by actual wind too, so you need to be careful which way you're flying it.

I still have to find it. ;) Complicating things further is Fallout 3, this game is so good it absorbs all of my time. :)

I am thinking of buying this game.
Can you drive anywhere with the vehicles?

You can travel by foot, car, boat, glider or bus and yes, you can go anywhere physically possible. :)

Yep. Im addicted to this game currently. It doesnt play very well as an FPS, like when youre trying to manually aim for someone instead of using the assist, but still, the exploration, environments, upgrade system for weapons. Its just got a lot of lasting appeal.

Is there a story that continues from far cry?? because my dad was going to get it for me for christmas and i explained that there was a first one!! and he said but Far Cry 2 was cheaper so he bought it and i played far cry once and dont really know if the story continues or of there is a story??

I would reccomend buying the first one to see if you like it or not...

No, the stories of the two games are completely different and completely unconnected.

In fact, other than the name "Farcry" and being a FPS, I don't see any similarities at all.

Hey guys. Does someone maybe know what do for the underground mission. I have to bring this tape to him but the door is just closed. According to the map, im right there. Any help?:dunce:

Kill all the surrounding enemies then open the door. :)
