Far cry 3 E3 gameplay

Its nice to see the game returning to its roots and adding some color again. I couldnt stand the dirty brown African environment in FC2. Now lets hope we dont have the respawning enemies at the checkpoints like in FC2. The cover system will be very interresting and new to the series.
 
I was wondering the same exact thing. I would love to see a proper remake to Far Cry 1 on the PC. That was the best game of the entire series.
 
Trailer looks interesting, strangely I never really got into Far Cry 2.
I'm gonna stick around for more info maybe it'll change my mind. I do love that fire and explosions, very realistic.

I didnt enjoy Far Cry 2 much at all. They went a "different" direction with it and the main focus was Africa. Which on paper the game sounded great, but the bland brown scenery, malaria, respawning AI, terrible save points, AI that could see you a mile away, jamming weapons, and ruberband AI, just made it a terrible experience. The multiplayer was fun and the map editor was as great as it has always been but the single player was downright terrible. One thing I have to admit, the fire propagation in Far Cry 2 was the best feature I have seen for distruction ever in a game. The way the fire spread from houses to trees and vehicles was amazing. It could change a multiplayer experience in seconds.

This looks like they are going back to the FC roots, and thats good news. Its just so nice to finally see the tropical colorful Far Cry I grew up with.
 
You just summed it all up for me.
Constantly jamming weapons and the scenery dull most of the time, malaria, etc...
When I read about the huge area you could travel on was exciting but it turned out to be an anti climax (is that english?).
FC 3 looks like it won't be having those things, will it still be free roam? I haven't read any info about the game, first time seeing the video.
 
Judging by the video it looked like you could free roam quite a bit. I am not sure how much, but the option is there for sure. You can also chose to go in guns blazing or use stealth. The cover system will be very interresting for sure. I wonder if the tree traps will be back. I LOVED those things. In fact I had a map named after those tree traps. :)

I hated the first one. All that driving around just to complete simple tasks. I had to drive for 10 minutes just to save my game, and when I get there I had to shoot and kill a half dozen guys when I had no ammo left. My game save never happened and I quit right there.
 
Compared to most of the game offerings out there, FC2 was, IMO a very good game.

I never played the original so I can't comment on that.

My biggest gripes were not being able to see enemies in the thick lookalike enviroment, even though they could be blasting your ass off.

And the AI ambushes could become annoying at times.

Otherwise maybe not perfect, but decent storyline, missions and progression, pretty well balanced, plus a large enviroment to explore.

I rate it maybe a notch below the Fallout games.

Looking forward to the next installment.

You cant be talking about FC1 on the PC. There is a HUGE difference between FC on the PC and FC on the xbox or xbox 360. Huge difference. There was hardly any driving at all in the PC game and you could save ANY time you wanted.

This^^

Saving isn't an issue on PC with Far Cry or Far Cry 2. The first game is up there with the best first person shooters of all time in my opinion.

The only thing that really bugs me about the second game is the ridiculous enemy respawns. If I take out a guard post... stay in the same area to do a mission... and then drive back through, I shouldn't have to fight through the guard post again when its only been 3 minutes. The malaria is pretty pointless aside from driving the story for those side missions. Also, once you get through the first bit of the game and start using the weapons you've purchased/upgraded, you rarely have to worry about jam-ups and things. It could have been better but it isn't terrible.

Obviously Far Cry 3 looks beautiful from that video... but I was kinda getting a Crysis 2 vibe with the way the cutscenes were playing out. Hopefully they leave the gameplay nice and open and don't get too carried about with the scripted stuff.
 
Yup the guard post respawns and the rubberband AI in the jeeps killed FC2 for me. If I drive by a post in a jeep that maxes out around 50mph there is no way their same jeep should magically fly right behind me.

It also doesnt look like we will be pulling bullets out of our bodies anymore. He took quite a few shots in the video and never removed a bullet. That was another cool feature on paper, but wasnt so enjoyable in FC2. I also got a little Crysis feel from that FC3 video in a good way. I just want the "fun" back from FC1.

Oh God, i hated that so much in FC2. I hope they don't have that rubberband AI bull:censored: in FC3.

I'm not. It was FC for PS3.

I guess I'll download FC demo and give it a shot, now.
 
I like it.
Hope there are no mutants in there, like in Far cry 1.
But also on Far Cry 2: I like it, just the story was simply not good, and that you always got a mission on the otherside of the map was frustrating and the reason why i never finished the game

Is this on PC? If so, can you take a screenshot to see what it looks like?
 
It seems that Far Cry means like being stuck somewhere and you need to get out of there because there is a conflict. Doesnt the story for this seem an awful lot like the first one? A boat destroyed, a female character of yours is gone and you are wearing a red shirt. Is FC3 an open world story mode like FC2? Or is it just one man route mission to escape from the island like the first FC? Either way, I'm curious what crazy things might happen (soldiers/monkeys on steroids or mini velociraptors or malaria). Btw: I'm a huge fan of the Far Cry series.

Well I don't have any hopes for far cry from ubisoft. Far Cry 2 was one of the worst games I've ever played and for sure THE most boring one. In fact I don't even know why it had "Far Cry" title (besides obvious things like milking naive consumers like me who are not paying enough attention to all the developers transfers) since it was not connected in ANY WAY to first part(one of the best fps games in that time). They absolutely killed the franchise for me and I'll never ever look in that direction.

The guys who made first Far Cry are the Crytek Studios , which are now responsible for Crysis franchise and Crytek engine. Unfortunately they don't have any connection to far cry brand anymore. And that's a shame.
