...Bugger all link to FC3 apart from the name however...
Cheers Scaff - the same gameplay mechanics seem to be there, including the bow sounds :)

As for storyline and such, you're right. It is meant to be on an island though, so maybe we'll see some familiar landscape?

Yep the engine is effectively that of FC3 (chained knife kills are back in I can confirm as well), but story wise it seems to have no link at all (not that I care - it looks wonderfully insane).

Same here :) I'm amazed that they managed to keep it so quiet - a nice touch though flagging it up on April 1st :D

I've seen some more gameplay, I found a download link for a 15 minute video. It's quite sweary, hilarious and the similarities with Far Cry 3 are a little more obvious. I don't want to say too much because it's quite spoilerific but PM me and I'll send you the link if you want (if it's still up).

Preview with a few more bits of info...

...my favorite being...

I would be hugely remiss if I didn’t talk about the eponymous blood dragons, though. We might still have tigers, goats, wild dogs and sharks roaming the island, most of which will probably have neon eyes, but the blood dragons represent a new element to proceedings. A little like a T-Rex not being able to see you if you move, these towering creatures can’t see or hear you if you’re crouching. Sneaking past them is fairly easy, but my first encounter saw one blocking my way entirely.

It’s kind of lucky that they like to eat cyborgs then, and in addition to looting corpses for a few coins, your cyborg left hand will plunge into the chest cavity of the fallen cyborg and rip out his heart. These can then be used to control the blood dragons, and you can throw a heart to lure nearby blood dragons to an area you want, and see the carnage ensue.

...I can't wait for the 1st to roll around now.

Pre-orders also on PS Store - definitely recognised some of the scenery in the Rock Paper Shotgun clip :)

Cheesy :sly:

My brother accidentally used £15 worth of Planetside 2 currency I had sitting in my account from when they had a triple cash sale, even though it only cost me £5 he felt had enough to gift me a copy of Blood Dragon to make up for it... I'm not complaining!

Wait, I went more than a week before finding out about this release? How the hell...

That "Mark IV style" video was the first thing I saw and it almost felt like drowned in the 80s-ness of it all. I'm already familiar with gameplay mechanics, plus this looks crazy enough to enjoy. If it's only £12, why not?

Only got this game about 3 weeks ago. Just venturing onto Co-Op. Quite fun, although I'm having trouble finding decent randomers to do the missions with. No different from any other game I suppose. Anyway anybody fancy helping me out to get the co-op trophies.

Also why does it kick you from the server in co-op, I'm assuming I accidentally killed a team mate? In my defence he had two guys around him I was aiming for.

Blood Dragon added to AMD's Never Settle promo. Retroactive for All who purchased eligible cards according to this. Source in the link.

I guess I'll be getting for free. I just have to wait for the key to be sent to me.

I got it free, best £0.00 I ever spent .

I really, really loved Blood Dragon. It's completely ridiculous and makes next to no sense, but logic need not apply due to excess awesome. A little short arguably, but I would have paid £12 for it.

I've been playing Blood Dragon a little lately, it's pretty great in my opinion. Granted, so far I've only done as many missions as you need to for the game to let you do what you want but at least the story knows how bad it is, unlike the actual Far Cry 3 which was just awful.

Basically, the way I see it is Far Cry 3's story was just something I had to play through to get to the second island, unlock skill upgrades and also reset the outposts, I was really playing it for everything except for the missions. Blood Dragon, on the other hand, doesn't trade fun for realism. It gives you a lot of what Far Cry 3 would've called skills from the very beginning, doesn't ask you to craft anything (which is great because crafting took me out of the game for far too long!) and is basically a much more fun game to actually play, but I guess that depends on your priorities. If you roleplayed Far Cry 3 as a survivor with only a 6P9 and bow or something then you'll probably hate Blood Dragon, but if you did what I did and raced to unlock the signature weapons, skills and outposts then Blood Dragon is really satisfying.

Oh and the sound effects and HUD when you use the 'binoculars' (can't remember what Blood Dragon calls it) - perfect. I just wish there was a gun that sounded like the M41A pulse rifle from Aliens!

The things I don't like are the permanent night time, the swearing (I'm no puritan but it seems a bit forced and cringe-inducing, I don't think films from the 80's were that bad) and the other little things that bugged me about Far Cry 3, such as the slight delay between sprinting and being able to shoot meaning I quite often sprint right up to a guy, stop and then have to wait a second before I can blow his head off with a shotgun. Also the helicopters that are parked up in some outposts can be a real pain if you don't kill the pilots before they take off, but I expect once I've got the explosive rounds for the sniper rifle that'll be less of a concern. Also the pistol and assault rifle are so utterly weak I mostly use the bow, shotgun and sniper rifle instead which renders them more or less redundant.

I found this for the weapons, though the assault rifle gets much better when you're firing teh lazors where before it's only decent for grunts to conserve sniper/shotty ammo depending on range. Explosive rounds on the sniper absolutely destroy and are far superior to the AMR ones in FC3 vanilla, particularly with semi-auto upgrade.

I didn't upgrade everything to maximum other then the Snipe (which I didn't really need to do) I wish I'd got the shotgun up to quad barrel fire round status to truly mess things up but I found double barrel normal rounds with the semi-auto upgrade as plenty.

Cool, I'll be saving up for the explosive rounds then! I'm looking forward to maxing out all of the guns but the sniper rifle and shotgun are probably going to be the best. At the beginning when you have the laser assault rifle I still wasn't all that impressed with it... It's a shame there's only two silent weapons (and one of them pretty much sucks), but I've found you don't often get noticed using the sniper rifle as long as you stay far enough away from the target. Then again the bow is so much more fun to use at longer range anyway, so whatever I guess.

So have you finished with it now then? How many hours did you get out of it?

p.s. Sorry I didn't reply last night, I was playing on triples so the Steam notifications were right out in my peripheral vision and I must've missed it, then when I noticed your message I was just getting off my PC for the night.

I find most of his videos are.

I can't stand his videos, they always feel so forced, but then his voice annoys me after a few minutes so I probably miss out on a lot of genuinely funny stuff. Same as TotalBiscuit actually, his voice sounds like a complete put-on and I can't stand more than a few minutes. If only Dr. Kimble did LPs, I could listen to this guy all day!

Language warning!

(He's the first guy to speak in case that wasn't obvious)

I did finish it, took all the outposts and did the hunt/hostage missions but haven't collected everything. Under 6 hours but I'm not against replaying it.

Just 100% Blood Dragon and it was awesome. This is probably the best DLC I've ever purchased. The game was hilarious with many references to the 80's and even other games. Assassins Creed comes to mind while you're hunting for TV sets and there is even an arrow to the knee Easter Egg!

I found little to no flaws in the game besides sometimes not being able to lock on to garrisons when I bring up the map to fast travel to. Overall it was a pleasure to play.

I like that your player is a "super solider" and he can run, jump, and swim faster than Jason ever could. The game was a little too easy because the weapons were so powerful. The laser upgrade meant silent shots and one hit headshots. A quad barrel shot gun can take a blood dragon down in two hits. I'd suggest not upgrading your weapons much so you have a much more challenging game. Overall it took me about 6-7 hours to complete the story and to get all the collectables and achievements.

Friends through eternity,
Loyalty, honesty,
We'll stay together,
Through thick or thin.
Friends forever,
We'll be together,
We're on top,
Cause we play to win!!!!

:)

So I finished it tonight, it only took 6 hours to do everything short of upgrading all of the weapons but I can't really see the point other than for achievements. The quad-barrel shotgun with the semi-auto and huge magazine upgrades is awesome, shame I never got the incendiary rounds for it though. And yeah, the assault rifle ended up being awesome, I can't believe I was going to pass on that!

Its a pretty cool expansion so far. I might have to further crank up my brightness though. Its a very dark game.

I've heard that the game has gone over so well that a sequel might be in order. I'm personally hoping for a full game. I honestly liked the atmosphere better than FC3.
