Alright. Thanks for all the input guys. I suppose it's true he might not have gone all out. It was mid season, after all. Thanks for the clarification. :)

On another note, I'm glad that he beat out Alonso for the title. Alonso became a bit of a dick when he got with Ferrari.

That's quite impressive that you can play such a small violin, kuyaglen. You are very talented, and I am glad for you.

Agree 100%. It's silly to think he would actually waste his time trying to set decent lap times in a GT5 challenge, especially considering he had probably never played the game before he sat down with it at that photo-op. That's all it was a photo-op. I'd be surprised if the car in the replay was even driven by a person, it could just be the AI for all anybody knows.

We are in 2011, Formula 1 driver works with simulator A LOT. He probably wiped out those laps easily.
 
Guys, you are digging too much into this. The Vettel challenge was supposed to be fun for the gamers and Vettel himself.

Here's what I think:

Vettel is a young guy - 23 years old. He grew with video games and according to himslef, he is a fan of the GT series (as are many other race drivers).
Also, he is doing more laps in the simulator than in the real cockpit (testing is hardly allowed in F1 nowadays).
It's perfectly believable that he spent a day or two for GT and the challenge called after himself. It's perefecly believable that he set the ghost times. I think I can even recognise some of the lines an F1 driver would take. AI is out of the question. There are some great lines and some minor mistakes as well.
2 second off Gold is a respectable time without SRF. Let's face it - most of us golded this with SRF on.
Also, the challenge asks: "Can you catch Sebastien Vettel?" - logically, you should be faster to catch him.
Very, very difficult without SRF, quite doable with SRF on.

You are looking too hard for irrelevant facts. How can any of this be undermining or disrespectful?!

Actually , when i got gold @ monza.. i didnt even get vettel.. he was ahead of me but i still got the gold
 
Now that I watched that youtube video again, I forgot how much it shows him actually playing the game, and he seems to be decent at it. That's what I get for trusting my memory :indiff:
Everybody has been making good points too, so I take back what I said. It could be a ghost of a lap he did, and it probably wouldn't have taken him that long for him to set a decent time.
I always just assumed it was the AI that does those "example laps" for the challenges and license tests and that they were well off the gold times so I never bothered to watch them, but now I'm not so sure!

I did a 2:09.9 - Could have shaved off another second probably, problem is that the first lap is always really good, perfect or almost, but the second lap i always had nerves and was too worried about not going off (which happened so many times) that i just went slower. After watching my replay my first lap was brilliant, but the 2nd was quite messy in comparison.

Suzuka was the hardest of the challenges by a long way, for me.
 
I know I'll never get the Vettel. I'll have to give up on hoping for the X1. The X2010 will be way off in the future too.

As for the trainer vid, I saw several of the licence ones also that didn't get gold.
 
Those who made Suzuka, what was your time on the Nürburgring?

Actually Vettel is a big fan of GT. When Yamauchi met Vettel, Vettel asked him 'When is the next one coming out?'

Few F1 drivers are actually fan of GT. I just need to find the source.
 
Anyone taken an X1 around Cote D'Azur and if so what times?

I think you're being absurd. And yeah, it does ask too much from the normal player. It's supposed to. It's one of the few challenges in the game that is actually a challenge. The fact that we're expected to outperform him is not an extraordinary task because the fact that he's a highly skilled professional is far outweighed by the fact that we have way more time to do the challenge than he did. Downplays his performance? Disrespectful? How could you possibly come to that conclusion when they named the prized car and challenge after the dude and gave him a whole spot on introducing the challenge. PD obviously has nothing but respect for the guy. And finally, you don't have to prove yourself to be better than the best. Because besides the fact that, even if you get a better time than him, you're still not proving yourself to be a better driver, you also don't have to do the challenge if you feel it is too much. Bottom line is PD gave players an actual challenge and one that is more than possible. I for one welcomed the challenge and got all gold on it with the DS3.

i would defently agree with you bro i think they just gave him a hour tops to do those lap times i defently think its him doing those laps and if they would have gave him the time we have you would see why f1 drivers are so special and why f1 is so ellite and is on top of all forms of racing in everyway. They are extremly hard the more of a reason to party when u get gold on all three felt like wining the f1 championship even did the shumacher fist pump all way to reciving the x2010 prototype
