You really think so?

i'm not sure if the 500 was there in 1967, though. website said this car has a 429 with 345hp. highest engine in 67 was probably the 472.

I can think of one problem right at the start. You're replacing a 1.6i 4-pot with a 4.6 V8... Just imagine the weight on that front axle... Will the rear wheels even touch the ground?

displacement doesn't usually have a whole hell of a lot to do with weight, though a V8 should weigh a bit more than a 4 cyl, if the toyota engine is iron than the aluminum northstar might not be that much heavier. i don't know how much the northstar weighs but it's probably somewhere around 400-500 lbs? i'll have to check.

however, if you push it too hard you could blow up the engine

Well duh, any engine pushed hard enough will break down. But it takes alot. Take for example when C&D was testing the Murcialago. They pushed it hard and broke a part on the drivetrain (I think). Lambo blamed them for it. However, they tested the Viper SRT10 and said they pushed it twice as hard as the Lambo and nothing broke. Just depends on the car. And the engine wont actually blow as other parts would break first.

Im talking about 1970 model, which did have 400hp and the 500 engine, and fwd. I might try and get some specs

Well, if we are talking stock from the factory, currently right now I believe it would be a close call between a few cars, these come to my mind though, the SRT-4 but with the acceleration and the govenor taken off along with the GTI VR6. Those would be my choices. Did you know in Europe the GTI R32, I know I hate the name too, is going to be putting down over 230hp and over 230 in torque, that is going to be bad arse. Plus a couple of guys at the dealer today and I were bsing about the new W8 VW has could possibly fit into the GTI, hmmm. . .

[EDIT] I might be confusing this with something else...
Yeah, but it is not a golf, it is based off the golf frame, but don't let anyone around a VW dealership hear you call it a golf. . . big no no.

Must be another EU/US thing. The booklet I have from a UK dealer says "Golf R32" on it and the car on their forecourt said "Golf R32" on the back of it...

Well what model of the Eclispe, first gen, second gen, third gen, AWD, FWD I mean you gotta say more then just Eclispes in general in all honesty. I have seen some fast ones and some slow ones. I can tell you now that a FWD is not ideal for a getaway for the fact they don't produce like a RWD or MR do. I am not trying to say that they suck or anything, but IMO I do not believe that they are Ideal for racing.
