Fastest LMP race car?

I'm about to start saving up for a (probably premium) LeMans race car in the vein of the R10, 906, 787B etc.

My question: which is the best? I don't necessarily mean in a straight line -- which one will be fastest around a track? Is there much difference?

I would imagine any of the old Group C cars are probably the fastest. If premium is what your looking for I would go with 787B

I have none in GT5 yet but can tell you a few differences to think about from real life that are probably present in the game. The Peugeot has a very claustrophobic cockpit compared to the Audi so if you like to drive in that view then the Audi has better sight-lines being an open air cockpit. In real life the Peugeot is slightly faster on any one lap than the Audi. I would guess that the downforce of the two newer models would be superior in real life to the Mazda but I am not sure if that is the case in game. The Mazda is a much older car and technology has moved on quite a lot since then. One other thing to consider is the Mazda's engine note is superior to the other two. The newer ones are diesels so they have enormous torque out of corners (much more than the Mazda) but the engines are very quiet in real life.

It will be quite a while before I have the cash for these race cars--which is one of my complaints with the game.

I have the 908, and it's a great car, but I'd trade that car in for the 787B anytime :P Just because of the sound and the history of that car.

Don't worry, the Mazda 787b dosent need diesel torque with the amount of power it has!!!-the stealth model is beyond insane:D

For the average driver against the AI, its pretty irrelevant as you can win in any Le Mans machine. Its more a question of whether you are good enough to handle the speed, they are all easy to drive below the limit as they all have good aerodynamic and mechanical grip combined with excellent acceleration and top speed. Driving them at the limit is the hard part.
Some are faster than others, but not by a huge amount that makes much difference unless you are really pushing it against highly competitive opponents.

Anything from the 1980s onwards that is Group C or LMP1 spec is good enough to win. Ford GT40s, Chaparrals, etc obviously are not in entirely the same league.

Well I need to be good enough for my Bspec to win with it.

I will say the Audi R10, but thats because I'm a huge Audi and Le Mans fan, but if you look it with your realistic eyes you will see that neither of the 906 finished the race this year however I don't think it will be that realistic in the game, though.

at last I'm still very very disappointed that the Audi R15 or the R15+, isn't in the game!! :grumpy:

Well its still the same, B-spec never drives the car on the limit and he will go as fast as the rest of the AI. You aren't really going to find a Le Mans car that is so much better that it will get around B-spec Bob being slow.
However, at that level, B-spec Bob does benefit a lot more from running at a quicker pace from what I tried, so as long as your driver(s) are a decent level they should be able to win races regardless of the car. Its up to you to manage the drivers really.
Besides, I think you can tune these cars a little bit from stock anyway.

There isn't a wonder car that is miles better than the rest. The 908 is the cheapest one around I think, so may as well go with that.

Maybe you would also see the 908 won last year when we all found out what an epic failure the R15 was.. (Hence the "+" car).

Same, I want both of them in GT5. Or as DLC. :)

Hmm is there a good car for the Extreme amercian race then that gives 96k (At least in aspec) and takes 3min (Prolly 6-8 in bspec) so I can speed up my money earning? :p

I have been using my RM'ed Corvette Z06.

The FAP just outlapped all my fastest Group C cars. It also sounds awesome, handles awesome and has a intense feel to it. No wonder they call it "fap" XD

Toyota GT-One, Toyota Minolta 88C-V, Sauber Mercedes, Nissan R89C & R92C and some Pescarolo.

How about bentley speed 8? I don't have it, but heard it was a beast to drive, and fast too.

I have high praise for several, Speed 8, 787, C9, R92cp.

I will say, if you want the most predictable, forgiving, drivable car, give the BMW V12 a hard look. It's a netural handler, good on gas, easy on tires. If there were a 24hr race for these cars in the game, it would be my 1st choice.

The Bentley Speed 8 is very quick. The 908 is a bit quicker, but they are almost even, at least stock.
