Talking about real cars here, not video games, what's your favorite gear? Sounds silly, but I have definite bias toward 2nd and 3rd. They're so much fun. You get good speed and acceleration.

How about you guys?

Its definatly 2nd gear for me. My Talon is AWD so 1st gear is very very powerful but with no tire slip I have to shift into second after 60 feet. 2nd pulls so damn hard under full boost and with me is mostly used when Im messing around on snow covered roads.

I have an Advance Adapters Exsternal Gear Splitter unit on my truck so I would have to say 2.5 (Tranny in second, external gear in High...)

On the GEO its 4th all the way...

hmm...in a 200mph+ car, I will prefer using reverse to drag against the ricers :D. I'm sure even in reverse they'll be smoked :D

My favorite is the third gear romp, when the Neon hits the 3500 rpm sweet spot and bounds from about 35 to the rev limiter at 75 in one big zoom.

unless it was a dragster I would believe a car geared to go 200+ mph, I would take you in a Civic LX on the drag

Downshift from 4th to 3rd, then around the corner.

6th gear in my parents old IS200 was a bit boring, seeing as the engine needed high revs to be fun. So I just tended to use it for constant high speed on the motorway.

4th. From walking pace to 120mph. It just keeps on going.... :D

3rd gear, 7500rpm... :D

Although as daan said, our silky-smooth V6s will actually pull from anything around 5mph up to well into three figures. But for that quick A-road "I'm passing you" blast, 3rd gear in mine is a tough one not to grin stupidly at.

1st gear through 6th gear at 2000 rpm to 6300 rpms is interesting in my car :D

Curse you!

My redline appears to be somewhere around 8000rpm on the tacho (well, that's the red "zone"), but I've never taken it above 7500rpm while looking AT the tacho :D But she gets interesting around 3500rpm.

Her single best noise is accelerating in 5th (top) from 80mph... I wish I could bottle that noise :D

That change from second into third is just stellar. The way it puts you back in the seat as your power out of a high speed turn is amazing.

That is a scary gear change. . . It flings me into the Driver Window. . . Torque steer with a rear wheel drive is a biznitch sometimes fully open . . .

I like all my gears...while I drive an auto(not girly, just don't have money for anything else), each gear is special.
1st is good because from a stop it launches the car pretty hard.
2nd is good because it once you get into the power band(at around 30mph) you can feel the power kick in and the 323 roars.
3rd is good because going down the highway with overdrive off makes it really hum and it pulls pretty good...also 3rd seems to be the gear it'll go flat out in at 98mph.
4th is good because it makes for high fuel economy cruising.

Reverse is cool too, for swinging the car around out of the driveway in the snow...I also did a burnout in reverse since there's a snow pile in my spot at school that I just had to drive up.

You don't get torque steer in RWD. It only affects front wheel drive cars.

You ever drive a RWD car that flings itself to the side when you press teh accelerator??? If that is not torque steer then what is it? Mind you when I stomp it my car would spin itself if you aren't ready for it.

I know what you mean but it's not called torque steer.

wait...so torque steer is the reason why my mom's accord starts driving crazy every time I punch the gas to the floor. What causes it?

It's something to do with the driveshafts in FWD cars being unequal lengths. The toe-in is changed under sudden acceleration causing the front of the car to wander off in a different direction to the one your steering in. The more power you've got, the more noticeable it is.

I think what you're experiencing, Miata, is the phenomenon known as "Ooooooh, Sh********t" :D

Actually, it's not the toe-in that changes.

The major cause of torque steer is indeed unequal-length halfshafts (what driveshafts are called on an FWD car. Because typically one side is much longer than the other, the acceleration load causes more torsion in the long shaft than in the short one. This means the longer shaft has more twist in it, allowing the drive wheels to accelerate at marginally different rates as the long shaft winds up and unwinds. This makes the front wander to the particular side that has the longer shaft.

Yeah, I need to get this car on a dyno to see how much it is putting out. . . the Crate Engine says it is putting out 350hp and 365lbs. / ft, but that is before the upgrades done to it, including a 150 shot of nitrous, which I am taking off the car relatively soon here and throwing a supercharger onto it. . . This could get interesting :D

Pah. Websites. You can't trust 'em. I got the unequal length driveshafts bit tho' :D
