Do I say Ferrari for the incredible electronics or... Pagani. I'd say Pagani for the sole reason that is the Zonda R. As Jeremy Clarkson once said: "The Zonda R recently blitzed the lap record at the 'ring. But I cannot figure out why it took so long"

EDIT: I expected Ferrari to be more popular. I 'spose they are shamelessly advertising there brand and modern Ferrari's are almost driven more by the car than well, the driver.

And is Porsche really a supercar maker? With all the affordable Boxters and Caymens, and not so out of reach 911s and higher grade models.

Let's not forget the soccer mom overkill Cayenne, and butt ugly spaceship known as the Panamera.

The Carrera GT and the GT2 are the last real super cars. GT3 I consider more of a sport model 911.

I would say the 599 is borderline, the 612 is not. And the last Aston to be close to a supercar was the Vanquish S. I'd say the closest thing to at the moment is the V12 Vantage.

A supercars has to be about excess and a bit out of this world. Hence I find the term 'usable or everyday supercar' to be oxymoronic.

I think the term you want for the breed of 'supercar' you mention is actually 'hypercar'. All the crazy Paganis, Konigseggs, Bugattis, etc. are what should be called hypercars compared to the others.

If over-the-top-ness, top speed, acceleration, and G's were all that mattered, then by your logic Ferrari would not be a supercar maker because all of their cars are not 'over the top' enough compared to the current fastest/lightest/best power-weight ratio cars. This logic of yours, to me, does not make sense.

Good luck selling people on that.

Well, what makes the Lambo a supercar to you? Probably the same things that make the Aston-Martins supercars to me if I had to guess. Please enlighten me!💡

The Miura was made for driving, there was no other point to it. It didn't really have anything designed to make it easily to live with like most other supercars, especially today's cars.

You couldn't see out of it, it was hot, it was hard to drive at low speeds, it looked like something from the future, it had a racing-spec Bizzarini V12.

It was uncompromising.

Aston hasn't made an equivalent to the things the Miura represented in 25 years, or perhaps even 50 years depending on how long you have followed the brand.



Though there have been countless arguments on GTP about what makes a supercar, so we aren't breaking any new ground here in the first place.

McLaren F1, built like a Formula 1 with three seats and a roof. Ferrari Enzo is the same. Lots of F1 technology in both.

But if I could own 1 car then it would be from Ford as I am biased. The 'Blue Oval' made the GT40, but the Ford GT would do. The racing history/ fairytail of the GT40 is an amazing story. It won Le Mans, it won again, they changed the rules and they still won.

@Duffers917K, I assume by your name that your FAVORITE, not neccasarily what others would consider the best (even though they are) or they make the most super cars, is Porsche?

No I didn't vote them. I voted Lamborghini, for the Miura and the Countach (none of their modern cars). Second would be Pagani, for the Zonda, not the new one.

I don't consider Porsche to be a supercar manufacturer, just the greatest car company.

Lamborghini are the seminal supercar manufacturer... they invented the Supercar with the Muira and they made the term defining car; the Countach. Supercars are pretty much all they have ever built. There are manufacturers who have made better cars in recent times, such as Pagani or McLaren, but they don't have anywhere near the heritage or history of Lamborghini.

OK, I can see your argument and now that you mention it, I do remember reading that somewhere along the line. However, I still swear by the Aston-Martin: the way I see it, others will invariably improve on the original formula, and to me at least, Aston-Martin has done the best job of updating what a supercar is and should be.

To me, a car should be more than the sum of its parts, especially supercars. It has to 'click' with its owner in a way that transcends everything tangible and concrete about the car. That's why certain people are drawn to Lamborghinis and others to Aston-Martin, while still others to Ferrari, Jaguar, etc.

I would hardly call lawn mowers supercars.
Then again, I wouldn't call a VW Bug a sports car either.

I voted Porsche purely because of the Carrera GT, but overall I would probably have to go with Ferrari.

250 GTO, 550/575 Maranello, F40, F50, Enzo, 599, F430, 458... the list goes on forever.

But to me the Carrera GT is everything a supercar should be. It's light, powerful, beautiful to look at and beautiful to listen to

Those are all beautiful.

But Porsche is not all "super car" like Ferrari is though.

They are a sports car company that makes some super cars here and there.

I don't know if that makes sense though.

Mercedes is in the same boat as Porsche in my view.

The only way we can all agree what's a super car and what's not is by agreeing what is the definition of a super car. And that definition has been thrown out the window now with the advent of hyper cars.
