Feds call for alcohol detection systems in all new vehicles

I can see such systems causing major issues,
Heck these days if you get a check engine light for even a mundane thing that has NOTHING to do with emissions, you lose traction control, ABS, TCS, Cruise Control, A/C, Radio.

What happens when this system fails?
Car doesn't start?

Will it have to be calibrated every year?

A better thing do to is to make it legal for police to do random breath tests in the US,
 
Too bad people texting or being on their phones is the real problem. This idea of theirs won’t fix anything

Just seems like the typical midterm election bandwagon for politicians to hitch onto. I expect once mid December rolls arounds this will be largely forgotten, like so many other hollow promises made.

4th amendment makes this extremely unlikely. And not hard to imagine it leading to more problematic police behavior with random stops and searches already leading to less than great situations.
