I would have hoped that people weren't actually under the impression that either of those two (especially no the DeLorean, which was slow even in 1982) could be compared to modern cars in the first place.

True, but we are comparing a high performance machine from the past to a relatively everyday car of today, plus, its a Ferrari and that alone means a lot to people.

Not really surprised with the DMC, like you said, it was slow when it released.

This is a good example of how far automotive engineering has progressed in the last 30 years. I remember Top Gear UK doing a similar thing about 8 years ago and it was interesting viewing.

This was a commercial for Toyota...a big spender in NASCAR & SPEED tv.

WTF was with the V8 audio track over the DeLorean when it came across the finish line? That doesn't pass the smell test nor does having only Toyotas in the challenge.

Well, after the challenge is done, they go on to make fun of the Camry and say that despite this video, you should still feel like a loser if you drive a Camry. :)

What about feeling like a loser b/c you have a DeLorean in your garage and not something more reliable...like an old Alfa? I hate that ****ing thing...

I'd rather go slow in something that looks cool and amazing then go fast in something that is the scourge of all mankind--that being a Toyota.

And for the record my SVT (and Camaro actually) would smoke that DeLorean and give the 308 Ferrari plenty of trouble. Still, I'd rather have either car over my SVT (not the Camaro :p)

E-Type and DB5 versus Honda Accord Euro. Honda beat the both of them by about a quarter of a second I think.

These, sir, are fighting words. I dare say the gauntlet has been thrown.

I demand pistols at dawn.

This times a million.

It's always interesting to see how cars have progressed but the Camry vs. 308 thing is a perfect example of why performance really isn't everything. High speeds are fun but people who base all their arguments on top speed and acceleration, or even outright grip, are often completely missing the point.

My view: I'd rather have a slow, fun car than a fast, boring one.

As an aside, the speed of that Camry is also something I dislike about the world of modern cars. You can now stick Joe Average in a diesel Vauxhall Astra that's quicker than most sports cars of the 1960s, only today that performance is both financially and physically easier to access.

It makes people drive like dicks. I preferred the days when only a select few could buy genuinely quick cars. Now a sales rep or a school-run mum can drive one the roads are a nightmare.

I'm guessing the 308 will pull quicker times when it comes to getting the driver laid.

Seriously, who would want to do a Camry owner? Eww, gross. :yuck:

If you need a Ferrari to get laid, then you probably aren't exactly God's gift to women ;)

Besides that, I'd take the Camry anyway. I'm not really a fan of the 308, where as I love Toyota :p

Everything in the segment is fast and reliable (well, maybe not the Chrysler twins), but all of the other cars have the side benefit of "not being a Camry."

You really don't get into Camry-beating territory in the Ferrari range until you hit the 288 GTO. and subsequent F40.

For the record, The Car Show is better than Top Gear USA.
